2 Claims. (11. 128-271) This invention relates to bougies rectal applicators. More particularly it relates to improvements in bougies or applicators that are used for alleviating the discomfort and pain of hemorrhoids.
It is an object of this invention to provide a medicament carrying applicator to alleviate the discomfort and suffering due to hemorrhoids.
It is another object of the present invention to use a rectal applicator for retaining a medicament and which can be readily inserted into the rectum and will afford comfort to a person suffering from the itching sensation of the hemorrhoids. I
It is another object of the present invention to provide a flexible, limp type of applicator having a porous lobe or protuberance which can hold a medicament for the relief of internal and external hemorrhoids.
One other object of the present invention is to provide a bougie which is filled with a medicament and which can be inserted into the rectum or the anus thereof without causing any harm or suffering or discomfort or injury to the wearer of this bougie, said bougie being worn and held in position in the affected area by means of fastening means around the body.
A detailed object of the present invention is to provide a rectal applicator comprising a soft, pliable and porous material which is adapted to hold in the interior thereof a medicament or ointment which easily diffuses through the porous material and which when applied to the internal and external portions of the rectum to soothe the same, a hood or protecting portion adapted to fit around the general affected area of the body.
One other object of the present inveni-ton is to provide an applicator comprising an insert portion of soft flexible and porous material having a hood portion which is adapted to conform to outline of the anal portion of the wearer, the insert portion being adapted to hold a relatively large amount of ointment or other type of medicament intended to alleviate the discomfort due to hemorrhoids both external and internal, and which applicator can be readily adjusted and held in position by fastening means onto the body.
Other objects and features of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Fig. l is a sectional view of a preferred embodiment of the device illustrating how a portion thereof is being filled with an ointment;
Fig. 2 is a partly sectional side view of Fig. 1 with the ointment being applied;
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a bottom view of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 5 is a side view of the embodiment shown in Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like numbers refer to like parts throughout, it will be noted that there is shown an applicator 10, comprising a compressible upper lobe or protuberance 11 made of any suitable material, such as rubber latex and the like which is provided 2,974,666 Patented Mar. 14, 1961 ice with fine openings or perforations 12 on the body of said protuberance and a body portion 18. Furthermore, said protuberance 11 is hollow in the interior thereof and is adapted to hold a relatively large mass of ointment 13 which is applied to the interior of said protuberance 11 by means of a tube 14 connected to a tube 15 containing any suitable medicament intended to afford relief to persons from hemorrhoids. Itis to be noted that the upper portion of the protuberance 11 is thicker than the lower portion which tapers to a constricted area as shown i Figs. 1, 2 and 5.
Said lower portion 16 of the protuberance 11 is provided with a relatively small constricted opening 17 to permit the penetration therethrough of the tip of said tube 14 as shown in Fig. I. Said constricted or reduced opening 17 is normally closed and is opened when the tube 14 is inserted therethrough as shown.
Lower or reduced portion 16 of protuberance 11, it will be noted, is integral with a body portion 18 which flares from the reduced portion 16 of the applicator 10. Furthermore, said body portion, is provided with the hollow rounded section 19 forming a saucer or cup-like effect in the general appearance with the remaining portion of the body 18 as shown in Fig. l.
The curvature of said protuberance and of the body portion at 19 is intended to permit the proper insertion of the protuberance into the rectum of the wearer while atthe same time afiording relief to such wearer who is suffering from hemorrhoids, said cup section 19 being intended to permit or force into the interior of the arms the protruding portions of hemorrhoids which may be present at such area. Extending outwardly from said cup portion 19 it will be noted that there is another conthe person. It will be noted that said body port-ion is made of any suitable, flexible, limp material so as to conform very readily with the outline of the area of the body of the wearer where the application is used.
In order to retain the applicator in position with respect to the user, the lower area of the body portion 18 is provided with a pair of detent members 21 and 22 which act as fastening means for strap-like members 23 and 24.
Such strap-like members 23 and 24 are used for fastening the applicator to the body of the wearer and thereby prevent its loss.
It will be noted, from the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings illustrating a preferred embodiment of the invention that the device can be readily used for alleviating the discomfort or sufliering due to hemorrhoids both internal and external. Furthermore, the invention as shown and used is intended to constantly apply a soothing medicament to the affected area in the rectum, anus and around the sphincter of the rectum.
The embodiment is also intended to assume the shape of the particular affected portion of the sufferer and is intended to supply a constant amount of the soothing and pain alleviating ointment or medicament. Due to the structure of the conical or cylindrical protuberance portion of the embodiment, it will be noted that the device ,is compressible and can readily conform and adapt itself tuberance is round and tapers downwardly toward the body conforming portion forming a cone-like body section which can be readily inserted. In addition, said protuberance is integral with said body or hood which is intended to conform with the profile or external area of the alfected part of the body.
It will be further noted that said protruding portion is sufiiciently rigid but limp to permit insertion and can be readily filled with a soothing medicament by inserting a tube as shown into a very minute opening in the bottom portion of the plug or .lobe. Said opening 17 only expands upon the insertion of the tube 14 or any other body which extends into said yieldable opening, as is clearly shown in Fig. l of the drawings. When the tube is removed the opening in the protuberance is closed.
While a preferred embodiment of the invention has been described and disclosed it is to be noted that variations or modifications as to form, arrangement of parts and use of materials may be readily made without parting from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed herein.
