ATTD RN EYE United dtates Patent NAIL CLEANER Clarence Li. Floyd, McKees'pert, Pa. Application May 29, 1958, Serial No. 738,699 1 Claim. (Cl. 132-73) This invention relates to a device for cleaning nails, such as toe nails.
The object of this invention is to provide a small tool or implement which is adapted to be used for conveniently cleaning nails such as toe nails, and wherein the implement of the present invention is especially suitable for use in cleaning the sides of the big toe nail.
Another object of the invention is to provide an implement which is small so that it can be conveniently held in the hand, and wherein the implement of the present invention has a unique shape so that it can be readily positioned beneath the side of the nail whereby various material such as dirt, skin, particles of dirt or other foreign matter can be readily cleaned or removed from around the toe, and wherein the device can also be used for pushing back the cuticle on all nails.
A further object of the invention is to provide a nail cleaner which is extremely simple and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent in the course of the following description.

Figure 5 is an end elevational view of the nail cleaner of the present invention.
Figure 6 is a view illustrating the. nail cleaner of the present invention being used for cleaning beneath the sides of the big toe nail.
Figure 7 is another viewillustrating the device of the present invention in use.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral '10 indicates the tool or implement of the present invention, and it will be seen that the implement 10 includes a first portion 11 which is of generally flat formation and which is of rectangular-shape, and the first portion 11 is shaped to define a handle which is adapted to be conveniently gripped ina persons hand.
The nail cleaner of the present invention further includes a tapered second portion 12 which terminates in a cylindrical third portion 13, and arranged on an end of the third portion 13 is a fourth portion 14, the fourth portion 14 being of an enlarged formation. As shown in the drawing the fourth portion 14 is shaped to include a flaring or tapering section 15, and the fourth portion 14 further includes a flat outer surface 16.
In Figures 6 and 7 of the drawing, the, nail cleaner 10 is shown being used, and in these figures, the numeral 17 indicates the nail of the big toe 18 which can be readily or efficiently cleaned by means of the implement of the present invention.
From the foregoing, it is apparent that there has been lee provided a device which is especially suitable for use in cleaning nails such as the nail 17 of the big toe 18.
it is to be noted that the nail cleaner 1% of the present invention maybe made of a single piece of material, and for example the nail cleaner may be made of metal, plastic, or the like. The nail cleaner 10 is shaped to include the first portion 11 which is adapted to be conveniently gripped in the hand, and the nail cleaner it) further includes the tapered portion 12 which terminates in the cylindrical small portion 13, and arranged on an end of the portion 13 is the enlarged head or portion 14. As shown Figures 6 and 7, it will be seen that the portion fi -iis shaped so that this portion can be conveniently inserted beneath the nail such as the nail 17 whereby the space between the nail may be readily cleaned of dirt, foreign matter or the like. As shown in Figure 6, the device can be readily used for cleaning beneath the side of the nail 17. As shown in Figure 7 the device can be used for cleaning beneath the end of the nail.
The portion 14 has the tapered or flaring section 15' as well as the flat outer surface 16, and these parts coact with the small portion 13 so that the foreign matter beneath the nail 17 can be readily removed or cleaned.
While the present invention has been described for use with cleaning the big toe nail, it is to be understood that theirnplement of the present invention can also be used for cleaning beneath any other nail either on the fingers or feet.
The parts may be made of any suitable material and in different shapes or sizes. Preferably the device is made quite small and compact so that it can be conveniently carried or stored away without taking up much space.
The device of the present invention is especially suitable for cleaning toe nails, and is especially useful in cleaning the sides of the big toe nail. The handle portion 14 is small enough and shaped in such a manner that it can be readily positioned under the sides of the nail so that the device will remove all dead skin, particles of dirt and any other foreign matter around the toe and the device can also be used for pushing back the cuticle on any of the nails.
As shown in Figure 6 the device is most effective for cleaning along the sides of the nail in the area between the skin and the nail.
The nail side cleaner will thus effectively clean the sides of the nail, and especially the big toe nail, and this area is practically impossible to clean'with any known apparatus or device. Thenail side cleaner will'get under the sides of the big toe nail very easily and elfectively without harm to the nail or toe and all dead skin and foreign particles can be removed without difficulty.
Minor changes and shapes, size and rearrangement of details coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to in actual practice, if desired.
I claim:
A nail cleaner comprising a first portion having a generally flat rectangular shape, said first portion terminating in a tapered second portion, said second portion terminating in a cylindrical third portion, said third portion terminating in an outwardly flaring frustro-conical fourth portion, said fourth portion including a flat outer surface, the fourth portion of the nail cleaner adapted to engage beneath the nail being cleaned, said first portion defining a handle.
