SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 292,563, dated January 29, 1684.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GUSTAVUS A. LILLIEN DAHL, residing at Greenville, in the county of Hudson and State of New J ersey,have invented a new and useful Improvement in Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification. My invention relates toa new and improved game designed for children orolder persons; and it consists of one or more blocks having a geometrical form, by preference that of the octahedron, and in providing these blocks with knobs or points projecting from the terminals or apices of the same, as is hereinafter set forth. These blocks may be molded or cast from any suitable materials-such as any of the metals, or from celluloid or vulcanite-or may be wrought from wood, ivory, or bone.

The drawings represent, in Figure 1, my invention in the form of an octahedron, showing a face view, and provided with points at the apices. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a face view, showing the block provided with knobs or spherically-shaped terminals.

I have represented the octahedronal form in the drawings, but any of the geometrical forms may be usedwhich may be adapted to this purposethat is to say, having, by preference,

sixor more sides or facets, upon which marks or numbers may be placed to indicate or identify such side or facets In a game either one or any number of these blocks may be used,

and the method of use is analogous to that of games now extantthat is, by throwing the blocks upon a table or other plane surface and noting the particular number or figure to easily handle or grasp the blocks, and in this way the use of any special receptacle for containing them is avoided. Another advantage isthat the blocks in falling do not spread beyond a limited circle, and are certain to present one of the sides or facets uppermost.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is Blocks having ageometric form, either plain or inscribed on the facets thereof, provided with knobs or points at the apices, and adapt ed to be used as a game, substantially as set forth and shown.
