1 Claim. (Cl. 242-5553) The present invention relates to toilet tisue holders and is an improvement on my prior U.S. Patent No. 2,751,162.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a toilet tissue holder such as to make it a very simple matter to install the roll of tissue within the holder and also make it easy to remove the core of the roll when the tissue hasbeen used.

Another object of the invention is to provide 'a toilet tissue roll holder of the class described above in which the holding spindles are retracted by a simple turn of a knob so that the roll of tissue can be inserted therebetween and the core easily removed after the tissue has been used.

Other objects and advantages will become apparent from the following specification when considered in the light of the attached drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a front view of the invention shown installed in the wall of the room.

Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view of the wall looking into the end of the holder, taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.

Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view, taken on line 3--3 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.

Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view, taken on line 44 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.

Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view of the holder, taken on line 5-5 of Figure 3 looking in the direction of the arrows.

Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the several figures, the reference character H indicates generally a toilet tissue holder constructed in accordance with the invention, and mounted within a wall W of a room. The holder H includes a semi-open front face container 10. The container includes an open area in which a tissue roll 11 is rotatably supported between end walls 12 and 13, connected together by the semicircular sheet 14.

The end walls 12 and 13, and the outer ends of the semi-circular sheet 14 are provided with a perpendicular trim flange 15. The face trim 15 positions the holder H within the opening 16 of the wall W. Horizontal frames 17 are built into the wall W and extend between the vertical studding 18. The frames 17 are rounded out as indicated at 19 to receive the rear surface 20 of the holder H, as best illustrated in Figures 2 and 5. Screws 21 secure the holder H to the cross frames 17 when the holder H is installed within the wall W.

A pair of roll holding spindles 22 extend in offset relation from the lower ends of a pair of movable jaws 23 and 23' respectively to engage the core 24 of the roll of tissue 11. The spindles 22 pass through openings 25 formed in the ends 12 and 13 of the holder H. The jaws 23 and 23' each have right angle bends at 26 to provide each with a horizontal portion 27.

2,920,833 Patented Jan. 12 1960 Referring now to the jaw 23, another'right angle'bend 28 provides a vertical portion 29 leading into a right angle bend 30, from which extends a horizontal portion 31. The horizontal portion 27 of the jaw 23' has a right angle bend at 32 and a vertical portion 33 terminating in a short horizontal portion 34.

Journalled within the upper portion of the face trim 15 is a horizontal shaft 35, the inner end of the shaft 35 is journalled within a bracket 36 mounted on the sheet 14, and the outer end of the shaft 35 has a knob 37 for rotating the same.

Forming part of the shaft 35 is a pair of arms 38 and 38. The arm 38 passes through the notches 39 formed in the horizontal portion 31 of the jaw 23, while the oppositely disposed arm 38' passes through the opening 40 formed in the horizontal portion 34 of the jaw 23'.

The horizontal portions 27 of the jaws 23 and 23' pass through guides 41 mounted on the sheet 14 of holder H, maintaining the jaws 23-23 in a predetermined position relative to the holder H, but permitting the jaws 23-23 to be moved away from or towards one another.

When revolving the knob 37 to the right, the arms 38 and 38 will separate the jaws 23 and 23 one from the other, retracting the spindles 22 away from the core 24 of the tissue roll 11, permitting the roll 11 to either be inserted or removed. A spring 42 is fixedly secured at one end to the shaft 35 and to the bearing bracket 36 at its opposite end. The spring 42 revolves the shaft 35 back to its starting position, maintaining the arms 38 and 38' in contact with the notches 39 of the jaws 23 and 23. The movement of the jaws towards one another is caused by the action of springs 43, whose ends are connected to the cars 44 forming part of the vertical portions 29 of the jaws 23 and 23'. The springs 43 pull these jaws 2323' together when the knob 37 is released by the operator.

This new and improved tissue roll holder 14 is of simple construction and easy to operate in the following manner. On the placing of a new roll 11 of tissue within the holder H, the operator revolves the knob 37, which in turn rotates the arms 38 and 38' in a direction to separate the jaws 23 and 23' withdrawing the spindles 22 from within the core 24 of the tissue roll 11. On releasing the knob 37 by the operator, the jaws 23-23' will come together by the action of the spring 43 and spring 42 holding the roll 11 in position within the holder H.

When the tissue on the roll 11 has been used, the core 24 is removed in like manner.

Having thus described the preferred embodiments of the invention it should be understood that numerous structural modifications and adaptations may be resorted to without departing from the scope of the appended claim.

What is claimed is:

A toilet tissue roll dispensing holder comprising an open sided housing having spaced parallel end walls, said end walls each having a central opening formed therein with said openings arranged in aligned relation, a pair of jaws, guides on said housing mounting said jaws on said housing for horizontal sliding movement thereon, a spring extending between and having its opposite ends respectively connected to said jaws for normally biasing said jaws together, a pair of oifset spindles mounted on said jaws extending respectively through said central openings in said end walls into said housing for engaging in and supporting a toilet tissue roll in said housing, an upwardly and inwardly offset end portion formed on the adjacent ends of each of said jaws with said end portions arranged in vertically spaced parallel relation, a shaft jonrnalled in said housing between the inwardly oflset ndLpontions of'saidij'aws, a pair of oppositely disposed, arms. fixed, torrsaid shaft, said. ofiset end portions,
