Application August 27, 1958, Serial No. l757,615
2 Claims. (Cl. 150-35) 2,920,671 Patented Jan. 12, 1960 ice mediate lines to define a plurality of side by side pockets. The upper ends of the sealed areas have inwardly directed portions to partially restrict the openings into the pockets. A sheet subdivided into a plurality o f indicia bearing cards may be severed into the indicia bearing pieces and inserted as desired into respective pockets.
Referring now to the drawing which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the present invention the numeral 10 generally designates the main receptacle in the form of a pouch, and the numeral 12 a discardable envelope carrying the indicia bearing sheet. The envelope 10 is formed of any suitable synthetic organic thermoplastic material such as Saran (copolymer of vinylidene chloride andivinyl chloride), vinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene, or the like and consists of a back panel and a face panel 13 of substantially rectangular configuration personal nature, various types of decorations or indicia i ods and arrangements are both dicult and costly,.nor f mally requiring specialized equipment and a trained operator and leave much to be desired.
It is thus a principal object of the present invention to provide an improved indicia bearing device.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved receptacle such as a pouch, pocketbook, wallet or the like provided with indicia carrying pockets.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide an improved receptacle providedwith a plurality of pockets adapted to receive indicia bearing cards.
A further obiect of the present invention is to provide an improved receptacle of the nature above described of simple and inexpensive construction.
The above and other objects of the present invention will become apparent from a reading of the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a pouch and attached envelope embodying the present invention;
Figure 2 is an enlarged detailed fragmentary view of a lower corner of the pouch;
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken along line 3-3 in Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken along line 4-4 in Figure 2, and;
Figure 5 is a front elevational view of an indicia bearing sheet illustrated in extended position.
In a sense, the present invention contemplates the provision of an improved indicia bearing device comprising a face panel, a transparent window panel superimposed upon said face panel and sealed thereto along abutting peripheral edge areas to form therewith an open ended pocket at least one of said sealed areas adiacent to said pocket open end being inwardly directed relative to said pocket opening to partially restrict said opening and an indicia bearing card adapted to nest said pocket.
In accordance with the preferred embodiment of the present invention there is provided a receptacle in the form of a pouch made of a synthetic organic thermoplastic material. A rectangular window panel is superimposed on one of the faces of the pouch and is formed of a transparent synthetic organic thermoplastic material and is heat sealed to the wall of the pouchalong a bottom and end edges and along longitudinally spaced intersecured to each other along their end and bottom edges to provide a'top opening affording access into the pouch. The edges of the pouch opening carries mating strips of separable fasteners 14 provided with a cooperating closure element 16 so as to permit the opening and closing of the pouch opening.
vA'rectangular window panel 17 formed of a transparent synthetic organic thermoplastic material preferably vstiffer than that forming the pouch 10 such as for example, Saran, polypropylene,polystyrene, or the like, is superimposed upon the face panel 13, the lower edge thereof extending substantially along the lower edge of the face panel 13 and the end edge thereof extending substantially along an end edge of the f ace panel 13. The window panel 17 is heat sealed to the face panel 13 along the window panel bottom edge 18, and edges 19, and regularly longitudinally spaced elongated vertical areas 20 to form with the face panel 13 plurality of side by side arranged substantially flat pockets 21 having openings 22 formed in the tops thereof. 'I'he heat sealing of the window panel 17 to the face panel 13 is performed in any suitable manner such as by the use of properly shaped dyes, the heating being effected by a high frequency electrical current or the like. Thus the panels 13 and 17 are integrally fused along the areas of heat sealing, that is the edges 18 and 19 and areas 20. The upper ends of the intermediate heat sealed areas 20 and the upper end of one of the end edges 19 terminate in vinwardly directed heat sealed sections 23 which partially restrict the openings 22 to the pockets 21 and are formed concurrently with the other heat sealed areas. Also mounted on the pouch face panel 13 is a triangular window panel 24 having a pair of converging end edges 26 which are heat sealed to the face panel 13 to define with the face panel 13 an open ended triangular pocket. The outer ends of the sealed edges 26 are provided with inwardly directed sealed portions 27 to restrict the end opening into the triangular pocket.
Associated with the present improved receptacle is a rectangular sheet 28 formed of heavy paper, cardboard, thin plastic, or the like, the sheet 28 being subdivided into a plurality of rectangular sections 29 by a series of regularly spaced vertical parallel and horizontal parallel lines 30. Imprinted on each of the sections 29 is a letter or monogram or any other desirable indicia. The sheet 28 is also provided with regularly spaced fold lines 32 to permit the folding of the sheet 28 into a compact condition.
The folded sheet 28 is enclosed in any suitable discardable envelope 33 which may be formed of polyethylene or the like, the upper portion of which is sealed by a cardboard panel 35 folded along its upper edge and sandwiching the upper portion of the envelope 33 to which it is secured by means of a pair of staples 34. An opening 36 is formed in the upper corner of the closure sheet 33 and engages a loop 37 formed of ball chain or other suitable material and carried by the closure member 16. The panel 35 may contain printed instructions as tothe method of employing the improved arrangement and any other desirable information or legends.
In employing `the` improved device described above, the envelope 33 is separated from the ball chain loop 37 by merely pulling it from the loop 37 to sever the upper corner of the closure sheet 35. The closure sheet 35 is then separated from the envelope 33 to permit the re.
moval of the indicia bearing sheet 28. The vdesired panels `29 lare then cut from thev sheet 28 along the guide lines 30 to form indicia bearing cards 38. It should be noted that the guide lines 30 may be weakened or scored to permit separation ofthe panels 29 withoutthe need of scissors or the like. The selected severed cards 38 are then inserted into the desired pockets 21 through the opening tops thereof. vBy reason of the inwardly directed heat sealed portions Z3, the vcards 38 are substantially locked in position within the respective pockets 21 and lateral movement thereof is restricted. A triangular card 39 suchas in the form of a 'school flag or the like, may be similarly inserted and retained in the pocket defined by the triangular panel 24.
While there has been described and illustrated a preferred embodiment of the present invention it Jis apparent that numerous alterations and .omissions maybe made without departing from the spirit thereof. While the invention has been described with respect to a 'receptacle such as lal pouch, it is Valsoapplicable to Wallets, autograph books, ring binders and numerous other sta-v tionery items.
We claim:
-exible face panel, a exible transparent thermoplastic window panel superimposed upon said face panel and heat sealed thereto along peripheral edge areas of said window panel to form with said face panel an open ended pocket, at least one of said sealed are-as adjacent to said pocket open end 'being inwardly directed relative to said pocket opening to partially restrict said opening, and an indicia bearing card-adapted to nest in said pocket.
2. An improved device comprising in combination a main receptacle including a llexible face panel, a transparent window panel superimposed upon said face panel and sealed vthereto along a bottom edge, and edges and longitudinally spaced Ytransversely extending elongated areas of said window panel to define with said face panel a plurality of longitudinally spaced upwardly opening pockets, each of said longitudinally spaced transversely extending elongated sealed areas having an enlargement at its upper end extending laterally into the opening and restricting the opening of the adjacent pocket, and indicia bearing' cards inserted into said pockets and retained therein by said enlargements.
