Description
CLGSURE CAPS Lambert W. Fleckenstein, Milwaukee, Wis. Application October 17, 1957, Serial No. 690,677 3 Claims. (Cl. 220-40) This invention relates to improvements in closure caps of a composite type.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the type which will coact with helical elements exteriorly disposed on theneck of a vessel to be closed, the said helical elements having end depressions to provide a locking action. e
Another object of the invention is to provide means for releasing pressure when the closure cap is opened.
Other and further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. l is a view in vertical cross-section of a closure cap and vessel neck embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view of the cap.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of a container neck and the helical ribs.
Fig. 4 is a view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is an elevational view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral refers to the closure cap similar in construction to that described in my patent application bearing the Serial Number 557,496 and filed on January 5, 1956, and also in that previous patent application having the Serial Number 373,423, tiled August 10, 1953, now abandoned.
The cap 10 has radial ribs 11 over the top thereof for manual turning thereof, and a central vertical borey 12 to accommodate the bolt 13 which is threadedly engaged at 14 in the circular disc 15. The disc 15 has a circular depression at 16 in its under side 17 having a vertical wall at 18 thereof, against which an O-ring 19 is held by means of the split ringband retainer 20. The disc has vertical bores as at 21 as a pressure release means.
A container neck 22 has a plurality of circumferentially nited States Patent O ICC spaced helical ribs 23, each one of which has a depressed portion 24 at its upper end 25. The cap 10 is provided with a plurality of internal lugs 26 which ride up the ribs 23 and lock in the depressed portions 24. If the cap is turned to open same while the container is under pressure, the lugs 26 will lodge against the undersides of the depressed portions 24 and it will be impossible to remove the cap 10.
It will be understood that the device is capable of many modifications in structure and design, without departing from the spirit of the invention, within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
1. In a closure cap, a horizontal disc suspended for limited pivotal movement within said cap, a downwardly disposed marginal ange on said disc, an D-ring seated within the flange, a split ring band disposed within said O-ring to hold it against said flange, said disc having a plurality of vertical bores therein adjacent the O-ring to relieve pressure.
2. In a closure cap, a horizontal disc suspended for limited pivotal movement within said cap, a downwardly disposed marginal ilange on said disc, an O-ring seated within the ange, a split ring band disposed horizontally within said O-ring to secure it against said flange, said disc having at least two vertical bores therein disposed adjoining the outer edges of the O-ring.
3. A closure cap, a plurality of inwardly projecting lugs Within the lower margin thereof, a horizontal disc suspended for limited pivotal movement within said cap, a downwardly disposed marginal ange on said disc, said disc having a plurality of pressure release apertures within the base of said flange, an 0-ring held within said ange, a split ring band installed within the O-ring to retain the latter against the ilange, a container neck adapted to receive the cap, circumferentially spaced helical ribs exteriorly disposed on said neck, and depressed portions on the release ends of said ribs to act as stops for the lugs when removal of the cap is attempted when said container is under pressure.
