Claims. (Cl. 15-258) This invention relates to a polishing kit incorporating a polish stick, a dauber and a buffer assembled in a convenient readily usable form.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of a polishing kit incorporating means for supplying polish, applying and polishing shoes and combining the means in a convenient easy to use package.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a polishing kit incorporating separate polish supplying and applying portions and means for securing the parts to one another in kit assembly and protecting the supplying and applying portions from air drying. A still further object of the invention is of a polishing kit which is inexpensive in formation, compact in form and convenient in use.
The polishing kit disclosed herein comprises an imthe provision 3 provem'e'nt'in the art-relating to the application of. waxlike polishes such as shoe polish and the like in that a supply of polish is provided in a separate container and an associated container carries a dauber or applier while a surface thereof forms a buffer or polishing medium.
The two containers, when assembled, form an elongated cylindrical kit retained in assembly by a resilient cap which encloses and covers the polish container and the dauber or applier in the other container of the kit.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being the intention to cover all changes and modifications of the example of the invention herein chosen for purposes of the disclosure, which do not constitute departures from the spirit and scope of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is an exploded perspective view of the polishing kit.
Figure 2 is a front view of the polishing kit.
Figure 3 is a side view of the polishing kit taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2 with the cap portion removed.
Figure 4 is a side view of the polishing kit taken on line 4-4 of Figure 2 with parts of the cap broken away.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of one portion of the polishing kit showing the dauber or applier in extended usable position.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the other portion of the polishing kit showing the polish container in extended or usable position.
By referring to the drawings and Figure 1 in particular, it will be seen that an exploded perspective view of the several parts of the polishing kit has been illustrated showing the oppositely disposed half-cylindrical portions of the kit itself and the resilient cap used to secure the portions in assembled relation to one another. The half-cylindrical portions comprise a portion 10 having a flat transverse wall 11 extending across the ends of an arcuate or half-cylindrical wall and defining a hollow half-cylindrical passageway closed at a bottom end 12' and open at an upper end 13 in which an appropriately shaped polish container or cup 14 is slidably disposed.
of the stick of polish through the open end 13 of the container 10. I
The upper edge of the half-cylindrical wall of the container 10 is provided with a groove 17 which matches a similarly formed groove 18 in the upper edge of an oppositely disposed similarly formed container 10 which is also half-cylindrical in shape and has a flat transversely extending wall 20, the surface of which is covered with a suitable buffing material 21 such as velvet.
The container 19 has a polish applier or dauber 22 therein which consists of a body member of a shape corresponding with the interior of the container 19 and which is provided with a finger 23 extending through a slot 24 by meansof which the polish applier or dauber may be moved into'and out of the container 19. The uppermost end of the polish applier or dauber 22 is cov ered with a pile fabric 25 or may alternately comprise a brush, the bristles of which are closely spaced to one The two half- cylindrical containers 10 and 19 will be seen to form an elongated circular object when positioned in proximity to one another with the fiat walls 11 and 20 in engagement. In Figure 2 of the drawings the polishing kit will be seen in such assembly and it will be observed that a hook 26 formed on the container 10 engages a recess 27 in the bottom of the container 19 so that the lower ends of the two containers are held together. A resilient cap, such as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings and indicated by the numeral 28, is positioned over the upper ends of the containers 10 and 19 and the cap is provided with an annular inturned .flange 29 which registers in the half- circular grooves 17 and 18, respectively. It will be observed that when the cap 28 is in position on the upper ends of the containers 10 and 19, as shown in Figures 2, 3 and 4 of the drawings, the kit is held in assembled form and the applier or dauber 22 and polish in the cup 14 are enclosed so that the kit may be carried in a pocket or purse.
Still referring to Figures 2, 3 and 4 of the drawings, it will be seen that the polish applier or dauber 22 and the cup 14 containing the stick of polish P are shown in retracted position completely within their respective portions of the device.
By referring now to Figure 5 of the drawings it will be observed that the polishing kit has been opened by removing the cap 28 and disengaging the hook 26. The finger 23 on the polish applier or dauber 22 has been manually moved to position the pile fabric or bristles 25 in extended relation to the container 19, and in Figure 6 of the drawings the other half of the polishing kit is shown with the stick of polish P extending outwardly of the open end of the container 10, having been moved by the tongue 15 on the cup 14 therein.
It will thus be observed that the applier or dauber 22 7 may be engaged against the stick of polish and some polish removed therefrom and the same applied to an article to be polished such as a shoe (not shown).
When the polish has been spread by the applier or dauber 22 and allowed to dry, the polish may be butted Patented Mar. 4, 19 58 tone smooth. and shines. ates brib fla buf in 1 9-.
