United States Patent COMPRESSED GAS GUN Stefano Marocchi, Brescia, Italy Application August 11, 1955, Serial No. 527,737 Claims priority, application I taly Aug. 11, 1954 1 Claim. (Cl. 124-11) This invention relates to a gun such as a pistol or rid.: which propels a spherical bullet by the discharge of compressed gas. The invention particularly relates to novel mechanism in such gun for electing the rapid discharge of a plurality of bullets in succession merely by successively operating the Ytrigger of the gun.
The invention has among its objects the invention of a novel compressed gas-operated gun, such as a pistol or rifle, which dischargessuccessively a plurality of single bullets merely by operation of the trigger of the gun. Another object of the invention, is the provision, in a gun of the character indicated, in which the pulling of the trigger rearwardly in one unbroken motion successively cocks an impact-type valve opening device, delivers a bullet into the bullet-holding passage or breech in position to be discharged, and releases the impact device, thereby momentarily to open the valve to discharge bulletpropelling gas into the breech of the gun.
The above and further objects of the invention will be more fully understood upon consideration of the following description of a preferred embodiment of the gun shown in the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary view of the gun partially in side elevation and partially in longitudinal axial section.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the gun taken along the line A-A of Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary horizontal section taken along the line B-B of Fig. 2.
The mechanism, with reference to the attached drawings is made up of the following essential parts: an integral breech block or monobloc 1, to the front of which is secured a chamber 2 containing compressed gas and in the back part of which is located a cylinder housing 3. Mounted for limited reciprocation in housing 3 is a rammer or impact device 4 equipped with central pin 5 on its forward end. Rammer 4 is normally held in the forward position shown in full lines in Fig. 1 by the end cap 6 and coil compression spring 7. In the front part of the monobloc there are: barrel 8 with bore or opening 9 for the passage and discharge of the small spherical shot 10 and a magazine chamber 28 for holding small shot, the magazine being in the form of a barrel the cavity of which is parallel to the longitudinal hole or opening 9, and which terminates in the vertical slot 12 as indicated in Figs. 2 and 3.
In the monobloc there is also a hole or opening 13 coaxial with the chamber 2 and within which is guided a central rod 15 attached to small piston or disc-like packing member 16 which determines the opening and the closing of such orice between the chamber 2 and the hole or opening 13. Member 16 is normally urged to the right by its associated coil compression spring, thereby to close opening 13. Also located in the monobloc is a hole or opening 17 which is perpendicular and in contact with the hole or opening 13, a hole or opening 18, acting as a breech, which is coaxial to the hole or opening 9 and in contact with the perpendicular hole or open- 2,811,150 Patented Oct. 29, 1957 2 ing 17, and a hole or opening 19 which is interposed between the hole or opening 18 and with vthe small shot magazine 28.
A lever 21, for feeding the small shot, is equipped with an extension 22 and is hinged'on pintle pin 20 and housed in the slot 1,2. Lever 21 is normally urged counterclockwise by spring 29. A trigger 24 is hinged on pin 23. The trigger has a catch I25 which acts on the extension 22 of lever 21 and also has a lever 26 hinged thereto. Lever 2,6. is normally urged upwardly (counterclockwise) by spring 30. The extremity of lever 26 has a thrusting action on the rammer determining thereby the displacement towards the bottom ofthe cylinder (loading phase) and its immediate release (firing phase). The component parts as described above, and arranged in vaccordance with the illustration given in the attached drawings, permit the continuous and automatic feed of the small shot on activation of the.. lone trigger in accordance with the following operation. Let usv assume that the gas chamber 2 containsgas undue appreciable pressure, that magazine v28 contains a number of shot 10, and that the trigger 24 ,isV initially in its yforward position, vshown in full lines in Fig. 1. i
The rear end of lever 26, which extends through a longitudinal slot in the bottom of chamber 3, is, as noted, normally in its upper position wherein it contacts the ramp-like inclined surface 27 on rammer 4. When the trigger is pulled back, the rear end of lever 26 engages the shoulder on member 4 at the rear, deeper en-d of the surface 27, thereby thrusting the rammer rearwardly against the compression of its spring 7.
In the meantime the catch 25 acts on the extension 22 causing the rotation of the lever 21 which itself pushes the forward small shot 10 in the magazine forward into the breech 18 through the hole or opening 19.
When the shot 10 is located in the breech 18, the rammer will have been brought to the rear end of its stroke, shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1. It will be noted in Fig. 1 that the upper surface of lever 26 is slightly rounded or convex in an upward direction, and that the rear end of such lever is rounded on a relatively short radius. As the trigger 24 progressively thrusts the lever 26 rearwardly from its rest position, therefore, the lever 26 progressively rocks clockwise on the inclined surface 27 of rammer 4. The size and configuration of parts is such that when the trigger 24 and lever 26 reach the rear ends of their travel the rear end of lever 26 will have been forced radially outwardly of the shoulder at the rear of surface 27 on rammer 4 sufficiently for the shoulder to ride over the end of lever 26, thereby releasing rammer 4 for a quick stroke to the left, under the influence of spring 7, until it is stopped by the forward end of chamber 3.
The front pin 5 on rammer 4 thereupon forces the rod 1S to the left, forcing open the small piston or packing 16 allowing for the passage of gas from the chamber 2 through the - openings 13 and 17 into breech 18 where it acts on the shot 10, discharging it from the barrel of the gun.
After such discharge, the chamber 2 is lalmost immediately closed once again by the small piston 16 which is thrust to the right by its thrust spring. Rod 15, at the same time, thrusts pin 5 to the right to restore rammer 4 to its initial position. Springs 29 and 30 restore the trigger and all of the other component parts in the full-line positions shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the attached drawings, namely in the rest position. When the trigger is pulled once again there is an antomatic delivery of another small shot, and this continues until the completion and exhaustion of the small shot contained in the chamber.
Naturally, the shapes and particulars of construction of the invention may be achieved in the manner most corresponding to the various technical and application requirements; however, the functional concept remains invariable without deviating from the Vscope of the present invention. The invention is, therefore, to be defined by the scope of the claim appended hereto.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A compressed gas-operated gun tiring bullets in sequence comprising a gun barrel having a breech block containing a breech at its rear end, a bullet magazine communicating with the breech, means for biasing bullets in the magazine into a ready position, a container of compressed gas mounted on the gun, a valve selectively permitting bullet-propelling discharge of gas from the container into the breech, an impact rammer on the gun having resilient means constantly urging it into a rest position, a trigger, means cooperating with and actuated by the trigger to deliver a bullet from said ready position to the breech, a rearwardly directed chamber behind the trigger in which the rammer is reciprocable, a lever pivotally mounted on the trigger and having a free end and a broad surface, a rearwardly and radially inwardly inclined surface on the rammer, -a shoulder at the rear end of said inclined surface, said free end of the lever engaging said shoulder and said broad surface of the lever engaging said inclined surface on the rammer, whereby as the trigger is pulled rearwardly to cock the rammer the inclined surface progressively moves the free end of the lever radially outwardly on the shoulder so as tinally to release the lever from the rammer, means actuated by the rammer as it moves its cocked position to open momentarily the valve to discharge a predetermined amount of gas into the breech, the rest position of the rammer being intermediate the ends of its travel, the rammer upon release from its cocked position traveling beyond its rest position, the means for opening the valve being actuated by the rammer upon its release upon travel of the rammer beyond its rest position, a resilient means urging the valve into closed position, abutment means interposed between the valve and the rammer, the resilient means associated with the rammer and the second resilient means acting in opposition to each other, the second resilient means thrusting the rammer into its rest position when such second resilient means closes the valve.
