Description

INVENTOR.
ATTORNEY HJ'B. LERMER Oct. 23, 1956 CONTAINERS Filed Jan. 2
United States Patent CONTAINERS Herman B. Lermer, South Orange, N. J., assignor to Lermer Plastics, Inc., Garwood, N. J., a corporation of New Jersey Application January 26, 1954, Serial No. 406,117
2 Claims. (Cl. 116-121)' It is the object of this invention to provide a container for articles which are to be removed therefrom at time intervals, said container comprising a body member to receive said articles and a cap member to engage and close the upper end of said body member. The container of this invention is of the novel structural features hereinafter more particularly described, facilitating the cooperation of the cap member with the body member. The structural features referred to are such that said cap member may be initially positioned on the body member by application of normal manual pressure, causing the cap member to flex into engagement with the body member. The cap and body members are so formed that, in the initial application of the cap member to the body member, the cap will engage the body member to preclude accidental displacement therefrom. The cap member may, however, be displaced when desired, upon the application of normal manual pressure for the purpose of rotating or removing the same.
Pursuant to a further feature of invention, complementary registering means are provided on said cap and body members for indicating times for removal of articles from the body member.
These and other advantageous objects, which will appear from the drawings and from the description hereinafter, are accomplished by the structure of my invention, of which an embodiment is illustrated in the drawings. It will be apparent, from a consideration of said drawings and the following description, that the invention may be embodied in other forms suggested thereby, and such other forms as come within the scope of the appended claims are to be considered with the scope and purview of the instant invention.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a container embodying the invention,
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary enlarged sectional view taken on line 22 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the upper end of the body member shown in Figs. 1 and 2,
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of another form of container embodying the invention,
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary perspective view of another form of container embodying the invention, and
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary perspective view of another form of container embodying the invention.
As shown in the drawing, the container embodying the invention comprises a body member 10 and a cap member 11 to be secured to the open end 12 of the body memher. The cap member 11 is provided with a horizontal portion 13 (see Fig. 2) having a flanged portion 14 (Fig. 1) depending therefrom, said flanged portion 14 being of greater cross-section at 15 immediately adjacent the horizontal portion 13, and of lesser cross section at the free end 16 of the cap remote from the horizontal portion 13. The depending flange portion 14 of the cap is made of relatively flexible material, while the upper end 17 of the body member is preferably made of relatively rigid ma- 3 ice terial. In the form shown in Figs. l-3, the body member is provided with major hour or other time indicia and with intermediate or minor indicia such as halfhour markings.
The cap member, in the form shown in Fig. 1, is provided with a recess 21 so that upon rotation of the cap member on the body member, the time interval markings 18 at which time the articles such as medicaments are to be removed from the body member may be seen. The interval markings may be normally concealed as in Fig. 1 by being disposed on the neck portion of the body member underneath the cap, or, as shown at 18 in Fig. 4, may be provided on the body portions below the neck and therefor normally exposed. The cap member in the last mentioned case would have a complementary or registering marker 20. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the indicia markings 22 are provided on the cap for registration with marker 23 on the body.
In the form shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the upper end of the body member is provided with a flat face 24 and the flanged portion 14 of the cap is provided with a similar flat face 26 (Fig. 2), the parts being so proportioned that said flat faces will normally have snug con- .tacting relation, as shown in Fig. 2. The face 24 of the upper end 17 of the body member may be coextensive with said portion or may be of lesser length, as for example, by forming the same (as noted at 25 in Fig. 3) as a rib defined by spaced portions of the body member. In the form shown in Fig. 6, the cap 31 is provided on the depending flange portion 32 thereof with interval markings 33 which are visible through the transparent upper end of the body portion 30; and said flanged por- :tion of the cap is received within the upper end of the body portion to close the latter.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A container for articles to be removed therefrom comprising a body member, to be held in the palm of the users hand, having an open end to receive the articles, a shouldered neck portion on said body member spaced from said open end .thereof, a circumferential rib formed on said neck portion intermediate the shoulder and open end of the neck portion, a cap member, to be held in the other hand of the user, said cap member having a depending flange proportioned to snugly engage the rib and of greater flexibility than the neck portion so as to flex on said rib on engagement therewith and to have frictional slip engagement with the rib on rotation of the cap on the body member, and a complementary means on the cap and body member to provide a registering visible selective indicia on rotation of the cap on the body member.
2. In a container as set forth in claim 1, said complementary means comprising indicia markings on the neck portion of the body member, and viewing area provided in the flange of said cap through which said markings will become selectively visible on rotation of the cap on the body member rib.
