Application April 23, 1954, Serial No. 425,127
3 Claims. (Cl. 222-103) This invention relates to dispensing holders for paste tubes, and more particularly to an improved dispensing holder of the type employing a pair of relatively movable jaw elements adapted to receive a paste tube therebetween to exert squeezing pressure on the paste tube.
A main object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved paste tube dispenser which is simple in construction, which is easy to operate, and which is arranged so that the entire contents of the paste tube may be discharged therefrom, whereby economical utilization of the contents of the tube is obtained.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved paste tube dispensing holder which is inexpensive to manufacture, which is durable in construction, which is compact in size, and which is neat in appearance.
Further objects and advantages of the invention Will become apparent from the following description and claims, and from the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an improved paste tube dispensing holder constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal vertical cross sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal vertical cross sectional view similar to Figure 2 and showing a paste tube compressed between the base and the movable compressor member of the dispensing holder and illustrating the manner in which the paste tube may be squeezed flat to discharge the entire contents of the tube.
Figure 4 is a transverse vertical cross sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings, the improved paste tube discharge device is designated generally at 11 and comprises a rigid base member 12 which is generally rectangular in plan and which is channel-shaped in transverse cross section except for its rear end, shown at 13, which is solid and which is of increased thickness as compared with the remainder of the base member. The forward end of the base member is formed with a depending, rib portion 14 which extends transversely of the base member at its forward end.
The rear end portion of the base member 12 is formed at the forward transverse edge of the thickened block element 13 with a transversely extending recess 15 having a transversely extending groove 16 in its top wall, said recess merging with the channel in the base member 12. Designated at 17 is a rigid compressor member having a transverse, upwardly projecting flange element 18 at its rear end adapted to pivotally engage in the recess 15, the edge of the flange element 18 being rotatably received in the transversely extending groove 16 in the top wall of recess 16, as shown in Figure 2. The rigid compressor member 17 is generally rectangular in shape and is shaped to fit into the channel in the base member 12, as is apparent from Figure l.
The forward end of the rigid compressor member 17 is formed with the thickened, transversely extending rib portion 19 disposed opposite the thickened rear end portion 14 of the base member. The rear end portion of the base member and the rear end portion of the compressor member 17 are formed with opposed, arcuately recessed edges, shown respectively at 20 and 21, shaped to receive the forward end portion 22 of a paste tube 23 therebetween with the paste tube positioned in the channel of the base member 12, as shown in Figure 3. As is further shown in Figure 3, the generally conical surfaces of the recessed portions 20 and 21 are rear wardly convergent and are adapted to exert squeezing pressure on the forward portion 22 of the paste tube when the compressor member 17 is forced toward the base member 12.
The base member 12 is formed adjacent its rear end with a plurality of transversely extending slots 24, said slots being spaced longitudinally, in accordance with the difi'er- .ent lengths of various paste tubes. The slots 24 are adapted to receive the downturned end portions 25 of paste tubes employed with the holder, in the manner illustrated in Figure 3.
In using the device, the end of the paste tube is turned downwardly, as shown at 25 in Figure 3, and the downturned end 25 is inserted in a slot 24 in the base member, the slot being selected in accordance with the paste tube, so that the forward end portion of the paste tube will engage with the arcuately curved recess portions '20 and 21 of the dispenser when the compressor member 17 is forced toward the base member 12 in the manner shown in Figure 3. With the paste tube thus engaged on the base member, namely, with the end 25 of the paste tube engaged in a transverse slot 24, the compressor member 17 is engaged with the base member by inserting its transversely flanged portion 18 in the recess 15 and engaging the edge of the flange in the groove 16.
Paste material may be discharged from the tube by removing the tube cap and by exerting squeezing pressure on the compressor member 17 and the base member 12, as by squeezing member 17 toward base member 12 either by holding the device in the users hand, or by supporting the base member 12 on a suitable horizontal surface and exerting downward force on the compressor member 17.
As will be readily apparent from Figure 3, when the paste tube has been squeezed nearly flat, the contents thereof may be completely discharged by exerting sulficient squeezing pressure on the enlarged forward portion of the paste tube, employing the rearwardly convergent arcuately recessed forward end portions 20 and 21 to apply the necessary pressure to the forward end portion of the paste tube.
While a specific embodiment of an improved discharge device for paste tubes has been disclosed in the foregoing description, it will be understood that various modifications within the spirit of the invention may occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore, it is intended that no limitations be placed on the invention except as defined by the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A discharge device for paste tubes comprising a rigid base member channeled to receive a paste tube, a rigid compressor member shaped to fit into said channeled base member, said base member having a fiat bottom wall portion adjacent its rear end, said flat bottom wall portion being formed with a transverse slot formed to receive the downwardly bent end of a paste tube positioned in said base member, and flange means on the rear end of said compressor member pivotally interengageable with said base member adjacent said slot.
2. A discharge device for paste tubes comprising a rigid base member channeled to receive a paste tube, a rigid compressor member shaped to fit into said channeled base member, said base member having a fiat bottom wall portion adjacent its rear end, said flat bottom Wall portion being formed With a transverse slot formed to receive the downwardly bent end of a paste tube positioned in said base member, said base member being formed at its rear end portion with a transverse recess, and a transverse flange element on the rear end of said compressor member pivotally interengageable with said transverse recess.
3. A discharge device for paste tubes comprising a rigid base member channeled to receive a paste tube, a rigid compressor member shaped to fitinto said channeled base member, said base member having a fiat bottom wall portion adjacent its rear end, said flat bottom wall portion being formed with a transverse slot formed to receive the downwardly bent end of a paste tube positioned in said base member, said base member being formed at its rear end portion with adownwardly 4 facing transverse recess, and an upstanding transverse flange element onthe rear endof said compressor member pivotally interengageable with said transverse recess, the forward end portions of said base member and compressor member being formed with opposed, arcuately recessed edges shaped to receive the forward end portion of a paste tube therebetween.
