Description

June 19, 1956 w. P. A. DITMAR 2,751,072
HEAT-SEALED PACKAGE OF LIQUID OR PLASTIC Filed Feb. 2. 1953 INVi/VfO/Q lV/LLEM H5775? APR/AM o/rmk AT OR YS United States Patent HEAT-SEALED PACKAGE OF LIQUID 0R PLASTIC Willem Pieter Adriaan Ditmar, Rotterdam, Netherlands, assignor to Lever Brothers Company, New York, N. Y., a corporation of Maine Application February 2, 1953, Serial No. 334,635
Claims priority, application Netherlands February 13, 1952 1 Claim. (Cl. 206-46) This invention relates to containers made of thermoplastic material which are filled with liquid or plastic substances and which are sealed by means of one or more heat-seals. Such containers will hereinafter be referred to as containers of the type described.
It is an object of the present invention to provide containers of the type described having legible or distinctive characters or designs, and a method of manufacturing such containers.
According to the present invention there is provided a container of the type described having at least one seal provided with characters or designs in high relief, which characters or designs are filled with the liquid or plastic substance and are not in communication with the contents of the container.
These characters or designs are preferably not in communication with the contents of the container.
The containers may be made continuously from a tube by flattening and heat-sealing the walls of the tube at regular intervals, after which the containers so formed are separated by cutting through the seal. Suitable thermoplastic materials are polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride.
2,751,072 Patented June 19, 1956 ice A preferred embodiment according to the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 shows a plan view of the container,
Fig. 2 shows a cross section on the line II-II of the container shown in Fig. 1.
Figs 1 and 2 show a container 1 filled with a liquid or plastic substance. The container has seals 2 and 3 and the seal 3 is provided with characters 4 in high relief filled with the substance.
These characters have been formed simultaneously with the formation of the seal 3 by a pair of sealing jaws, one operating surface of which bears in bas relief the characters to be formed. By these means the liquid or plastic substance is not pressed away at the characters during formation of the seal 3.
I claim:
A container made of thermoplastic material filled with a liquid or plastic substance and sealed by means of at least one heat-seal, said seal being provided with characters or designs in high relief, which characters or designs are filled with the liquid or plastic substance, said seal completely surrounding the characters or designs in relief to prevent communication of the contents of the characters or designs with the contents of the container.
