Application March 24, 1953, Serial No. 344,419
2 Claims. (Cl. 4l10) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in camouflage equipment, and more particularly, to a holder for stalks of vegetation adapted for attaching to the back of a hunting coat or other garment to support the stalks in a position for concealing the head A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is efiicent and reliable in operation, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawingsforming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure. 1 is a perspective view showing the invention in use; 1
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a garment showing the stalk holders in position thereon;
Figure 3 is an enlarged elevational view of one of the rows of holders; and
Figures 4 and 5 are enlarged vertical sectional views taken, respectively, on the lines 4-4 and 5,5 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration, I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a row of tubular members or pockets which may be constructed of cloth or other suitable material and sewed in a parallel relation with respect to each other to a backing plate 6 which may also be of heavy, stiff cloth or other suitable material.
. One or more of the rows of holders 5 are secured to the back of a vest or sleeveless hunting, coat 7 by means of snap fasteners or the like"8 carried at the end portions otthe backing plate 6 and with the rows of tubular members or pockets5-aligned vertically with each other and 2,744,348 Patented May 8, 1956 to support the latter in an upstanding position at the back of the head and shoulders of a person wearing the garment. I
The equipment includes a lowermost row of tubular members or pockets 10 which are closed by a bottom 11 having a drainage opening 12 therein and whereby the lower end of the stalks 9 will rest on the bottom 11 of the lowermost row of holders to prevent dropping of the stalks therethrough. r
While the present embodiment of the invention illustrates three rows of the holders secured to the back of a garment in vertically aligned position with respect to each other, it is to be understood that the severalrows of tubular members or pockets 5 and 10 may be secured on a single backing plate or panel and secured as a unit to the back of the garment.
As illustrated in Figure l of the drawing. the stalks of weeds 9 are selected of suitable length so that the same will extend upwardly above the head of the wearer so as to conceal the shoulders and'head and thus serve to camouflage the person.
From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood'and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since nu- .merous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and. equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claims. I
What is claimed as new is as follows:
1. A camouflage comprising a body garment, a plurality of rows of tubular members secured to the back of the garment in vertically aligned relation with respect to each other, the lowermost row of members having closed bottoms, and stalks of vegetation supported in an upstanding position in said members and with the upper ends of said stalks terminating in the region of the head of a person wearing the garment to conceal the upper portion of the-body of the person.
2. A camouflage comprising in combination, a flexible body member, a lower group of pockets carried by the body member and having closed bottom portions, and at least one upper group of pockets having open top and bottom portions and positioned in vertical alignment with the respective lower pockets, and elongated camouflage members inserted in said upper group of pockets to rest the lower ends of said camouflage members in the pockets, and said camouflage members being Supported in a vertical position in parallel relation to each other in said upper and lower pockets and,with the upper ends of said camouflage members at least coextensivc in height with the head of a person wearing the body member.
