Description

United States Patent ADHESIVE TAPE LINT REMOVER Roy M. Walkama, Seattle, Wash.
Application April 18, 1950, Serial No. 156,623
1 Claim. (Cl. -104) This invention relates to devices for removing lint and the like particularly from clothing, and in particular a holder for a spool of adhesive tape with a shield for covering the adhesive tape on one side of the spool.
The purpose of this invention is to provide means for holding adhesive tape with the adhesive surface exposed whereby the tape may be lightly brushed over clothing torernove lint and the like therefrom.
It is diificult to remove some forms of lint from clothing particularly of the type having a nap and when lint is brushed from clothing it is suspended in the air and often returns to a different part of the garment. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates a device that not only readily removes lint from the surface of clothing but that also retains the lint to prevent its returning to the clothing.
The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide a holder whereby a coil or roll of adhesive tape may he held in the palm of the hand with the adhesive or tacky surface exposed on one side of the roll.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for holding a roll of adhesive tape so that the tape may be brushed over clothing to remove lint therefrom in which sections of the tape may be removed from the roll as they are used and in which the roll of adhesive tape is replaceable.
,A further object of the invention is to provide a holder for adhesive tape whereby the tape may be used for removing lint which is of a simple and economical construction.
With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention embodies a core or body elliptical shape in cross section, a roll of adhesive tape positioned on said body, and an arcuate cover extended over the adhesive tape on one side of the device and attached to the body.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the improved lint remover.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the lint remover showing a section of adhesive tape in the process of being removed therefrom wherein the tape is indicated in dotted lines.
Figure 3 is an end elevational view showing the cover on one side of the device with adhesive tape exposed on the opposite side.
Figure 4 is a cross section through the adhesive tape holder taken on line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Referring now to the drawings wherein hke reference 2,702,913 Ice Patented Mar. 1, 1955 characters denote corresponding parts the adhesive tape lint remover of this invention includes a core 10 and an arcuate shield or cover 11 which is temporarily secured to the core or body 10 by extended fingers 12 and 13 at the the sides, the fingers being provided with inwardly extended projections 14 and 15, respectively.
The core 10 is preferably elliptical shape in cross section to facilitate nesting in the palm of the hand and the covering shield 11 is provided with tapering edges 16 and 17 that extend from a point 18 at one side to a point 19 at the other whereby substantially the entire upper surface of a roll of adhesive tape, as indicated by the numeral 20 is covered to facilitate retaining the holder in the palm of the hand.
With the parts arranged in this manner the roll of adhesive tape is placed on the body or core 10 and the shield 11 is placed over the adhesive tape with the projections 14 and 15 snapped under the inner surface of the core.
As the adhesive tape on one side of the device is used, or absorbs lint to such an extent that the adhesive characteristics ar-e'depleted, the shield 11 is placed on the opposite side whereby a fresh surface is exposed.
As the adhesive tape is used the section thereof on the exposed side of the body or core is torn away, as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 and after the entire roll or spool of tape is used a new roll is positioned on the core.
The core and shield of the adhesive tape holder of this invention may be formed of plastic, wood, metal or any suitable material and the tape may be positioned thereon in any manner.
It will be understood that modifications may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
In a lint remover, the combination which comprises a hollow body of elliptical shape in longitudinal cross section, adhesive tape on the entire outer surface of the body and positioned with the adhesive surface thereof extended outwardly, and an arcuate shaped shield having ends tapering in thickness to facilitate tearing used sections of the adhesive tape from the body positioned to substantially cover the entire outer surface of the adhesive tape on one side of the body and having rigid fingers provided with inwardly directed right angularly disposed projections on the sides integral therewith for temporarily retaining the shield on the body.
