Description

Patented Nov. 9, 1954 ice LlNT REMVING IMPLEMENT Robert K. Hensley, Jr., Silver Spring, Md.
Application .luly 11, 1951, Serial No. 236,220
1 Claim. (Cl. 15-104) My invention relates to improvements in lint removing implements for cleaning fabric and other material of lint, hairs, loose ravelings, and other foreign matter.
The primary object of my invention is to provide an easily handled implement for the above purposes ernbodying a stack of tapes, adhesive and tacky on one side only, and adhesively secured together in layers in the stack for separation from each other to expose the adhesive side for application to the material, together with a holder for manipulating the tapes to apply the adhesive side thereof flat against the material.
Another object is to provide for securing the stack to the holder by one of the tapes without the use of separate fasteners and for easy detachment for replacement by a new stack.
Still another object is to provide an implement of the character and for the purpose set forth which is adapted for inexpensive manufacture for the low priced retail trade.
Other and subordinate objects, Within the purview of my invention, together with the precise nature of my improvements will be readily understood when the succeeding description and claim are read with reference to the drawing accompanying and forming part of this specication.
In said drawings:
Figure l is a view in perspective of my improved implemerit in the preferred embodiment thereof;
Figure 2 is a view in perspective with the implement invetted;
Figure 3 is a View in longitudinal section taken on the line 3 3 of Figure 1 and drawn to a larger scale;
Figure 4 is a View in perspective of the holder;
Figure 5 is a view in perspective of one of the tapes; and,
Figure 6 is a view in perspective illustrating the implement attached to a whisk broom. Q
Referring to the drawing by numerals, according to my invention, a plurality of rectangular tapes 1 of the same length and having one adhesive, bottom, tacky side 2 are arranged in layers in a stack, designated .generally 3, and separably secured together with edges aligned b y the adhesive sides 2 thereof, whereby said adhesive sides 2 all face in the same direction with a bottom tape of the stack 3 having its adhesive side exposed. The tapes 2 may be of any suitable length and are preferably formed of like' lengths of Scotch tape of commerce. l
A holder 5 is provided for the stack 3 for manipulating the same and the tapes 2 and maintaining the tapes 2 straight and flat for flat application to the material. The holder 5 comprises a at plate 6 of oblong rectangular shape and slightly larger than the tapes 1, and is provided on what constitutes the top thereof with a central, longitudinally extending and shorter finger grip ear 7.
The stack 3 is detachably secured to the plate 6 by the top tape 1 of the stack and by the following means. The ends 8 of the top tape 2 of the stack 3 are pulled loose from the contiguous tape 2 to free the same. The plate 6 is provided adjacent each end thereof with a transverse slot 9 extending inwardly a suitable distance from one longitudinal edge of said plate. The free ends 8 are inserted through the slots 9 from the bottom of the plate 6, folded down flat on the end portions of said plate 6 and secured flat thereto by the adhesive side of said tape, and with said top tape pulled taut to engage its top side with the bottom of said plate 6 between the slots 9. Thus the stack 3 is held straight and the tapes 1 with adhesive sides 2 facing toward the bottom of the stack 3 so that the tapes 1 may be pulled loose from each other from the bottom of the stack 3 to expose the adhesive side 2 of each tape for application to the material.
To facilitate pulling the tapes 1, other than the top tape, loose from contiguous tapes, the ends of said other tapes at one end of the stack 3 are separated from each other and covered on the adhesive side 2 of the tapes 1 with a cross strip 10 of paper, or cloth, to provide free end tabs 1 on said other tapes for grasping to pull said tapes loose from each other.
A hole 11 is provided in each end portion of the tape d for attachment of the implement to one side of a whisk broom 12 with the back of the plate 6 against said whisk broom and the ear 7 imbedded in the bristles thereof, the plate 6 being preferably held to the Whisk broom 12 by a rubber band 14 passed through one hole 11 and around the bristles, and another rubber band 15 passed through the other hole 11 and around the handle 16 of the whisk broom.
The manner in which the implement is used will be readily understood. When the bottommost tape 1 becomes useless by becoming fouled with lint and other material, it is pulled loose from the next contiguous tape 1, discarded and the contiguous tape used, until the top tape 1 is reached and used so as to become useless. The top tape 1 is then pulled loose from the plate 6 and a new, replacement, stack of tapes 1 is secured to said plate 6 y in the manner already described.
The foregoing will, it is believed, suffice to impart a clear understanding of my invention, without further explanation.
Manifestly, the invention, as described, is susceptible of modification, without departing from the inventive concept, and right is herein reserved to such modications as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
i Having described my invention, what is claimed as new is:
An implement for removing lint and the like from fabric material comprising a stack of layers of adhesive tapes adhesively secured together in superposed aligned relation, said tapes being separable by pulling each loose from the other to expose an adhesive side of each tape for application to the material to pick up lint, and a holder for the stack comprising an oblong plate having one side opposed to ari outer tape of the stack and secured thereto for manipulating said tapes to apply the exposed side of each tape, said plate having transverse slots therein and said outer tape having free end portions inserted through said slots and folded over and adhesively secured to the other side of the plate for detachably securing the stack to said plate, said slots being operi at one longitudinal edge of the plate for insertion of said free ends laterally into said slots before said ends are folded over and adhesively secured.
