COMBINED SOAP TRAY AND LIQUID SOAP DISPENSER Filed Nov. 5, 1952 (fakn CZZZ 1 0E INVENTOR BY wane-F60.
ATTORNEYS.
Patented May 4, 1954 COMBINED SOAP TRAY AND LIQUID SOAP DISPENSER John C. T. Young, Fayetteville, N. 0.
Application November 5, 1952, Serial No. 318,778
This invention relates to a combined soap tray and liquid soap dispenser, the primary object of the invention being to provide a soap tray embodying an upper tray section and the lower basin into which small pieces of soap which would otherwise be discarded, are placed therein to form liquid soap when water from soap supported in the soap tray, passes into the basin.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character wherein the small pieces of soap contained within the basin, will be agitated with each movement of the valve to control the passage of liquid soap from the basin.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a soap tray wherein the basin thereof may be readily and easily disconnected, permitting small particles of soap to be deposited therein.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter mor fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention, as claimed.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through a soap tray and liquid soap dispenser constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof, a portion of the soap grill having been broken away to illustrate the spring member for controlling the movement of the vertically movable foraminous basin tray.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3--3 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 indicates the main or supporting tray section of the device, which is formed with openings ii for the reception of securing screws 1 by means of which the device is secured to a supporting surface preferably directly above a Wash basin.
The main tray section is divided into its upper and lower edges by a grill section 8 on which the usual bar of soap rests, when positioned in the soap tray.
The reference character 9 indicates the basin of the tray, which basin is so constructed that it fits closely against the lower surface of the grill section 3, and is held in such position by means of the spring clips I!) that are secured to the outer surface of the tray section and fit under the lugs H extending from the basin 9.
1 Claim. (Cl. 23-267) Fitted within the basin 9 is the vertically movable'foraminous tray H, which tray is formed with a substantially flat bottom against which the curved intermediate portion !3 of th spring [4 rests, normally holding the tray downwardly in close contact with the bottom of the basin 9.
The tray i2 is formed with enlarged openings l5 through which the ends l5 of the spring l4 extends, the ends It also passing into openings formed in the wall of the basin 9.
The basin 9 is formed with the sump l! which is formed with a curved wall against which the curved surface of the valve I8 rests, the valve [8 contacting the lower central portion of the foraminous tray II, as shown by Fig. l of the drawing.
Formed integral with the valve I8, is the valve stem l 9 which extends a substantial distance below the lower end of the sump H, the valve stem being formed with grooves 29 in the outer surface thereof, the grooves 28 being disposed longitudinally of the stem providing passageways for the liquid soap passing from the basin and sump, when the hand of the person removing liquid soap from the tray, is forced outwardly against the knob 2| formed on the lower extremity of th valve stem.
From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, when bars of soap used in the tray become too small for convenient use, the remaining portions of the bars of soap may be deposited in the ioraminous tray [2 of the basin 9. Water which may drain from a bar of soap positioned on the grill section 8, will pass into the basin and be held in the basin to dissolve the small particles of soap providing a liquid soap in the basin to be used by a person in washing his hands.
With this device it is unnecessary to discard small pieces of soap when they become so small as to render their use objectionable.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
A combined soap tray and liquid soap dispenser, comprising a main supporting tray, a grill disposed within said main supporting tray providing a soap compartment, a portion of said tray extending below said soap compartment, a basin having openings in the side walls thereof, removably secured within saidtray below said grill, 9. portion of the bottom of said basin extending downwardly providing a discharge opening and a hollow valve guide, said guide being flared at its upper end providing a sump and valve seat, a vertically movable valve operating within said valve seat, a valve stem extending from said valve, having longitudinally disposed discharge grooves in the stem thereof, operating in the valve guide and extended below the lower end of said guide, a vertically movable foraminous tray resting on said valve, said foraminous tray having side Walls disposed against the inner surfaces oisaid basin, andabowed spring having its endsextending through the foraminous tray and disposed in the openings of said basin, the bowed portion of said spring resting against the bottom of said foraminous tray directly over said valve normaliy'biasingthe 0- 4 raminous tray in contact with said valve, and said valve stem adapted to move vertically elevating the foraminous tray, simultaneously opening said valve whereby liquid soap passes from said soap dispenser.
