This invention relates to an inflatable air mattress.

It is an object of the present invention to provide an air mattress which is designed in such a way that it can also be used as a chair or seat for comfortable seating.

With this and further objects in view, according to the present invention the lying surface having for instance inflatable longitudinal beads or rolls or beads of any other shape is interrupted approximately midway by a throughgoing transverse dead, i. e., non-inflatable panel adapted to serve as a hinge or folding portion for converting the lying surface with its head part into a chair or seat in various ways. as hereinafter described in greater detail.

Other and further objects, features and advantages of the invention will be pointed out hereinafter and appear in the appended claims forming part of the application.

In the accompanying drawings several now preferred embodiments of the invention are shown by way of illustration and not by way of limitation.

Fig. l is a perspective view of an air mattress having the invention applied thereto, set for use as a bed or lying accommodation,

Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, but showing the mattress set for use as a comfortable seating accommodation, and

Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing a modified seating accommodation obtainable by conversion of the mattress of Fig. 1.

Similar reference numerals denote similar parts in the different views.

Referring now to the drawing in greater detail, and first to Fig. 1, it will be seen that the air mattress consists in per se known manner of a head portion l and a lying surface 2, 2. The mattress is interrupted at 3 by a. throughgoing transverse panel, i. e. this portion of the lying surface is not inflatable so that the dead panel 3 serves as a hinge for converting the mattress into a seat or chair, as indicated in Figs. 2 and 3.

To this end, perforated lugs are provided at the mattress in the positions as shown, for fastening thereto longer or shorter straps 4 holding the parts of the mattress together in the desired positions. Thus, according to Fig. 2 the two collapsed portions 2, 2' held together by a pair of short straps 5 form a seat while the head part I serves as a back for the seat, which is held in its position by a pair of longer straps 4. Again, according to Fig. 3 the head part 1 forms the seating surface and the portion 2' forms the back which is supported by the portion 2, a pair of longer straps 4 in this case holding the portions 2 and 2' in a predetermined spread position.

While the invention has been described in detail with respect to certain now preferred examples and embodiments of the invention it will be understood by those skilled in the art after understanding the invention that various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the pirit and scope of the invention and it is intended, therefore, to cover all such changes and modifications in the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

l. A combination inflatable mattress and seating device comprising at least two inflatable body supporting sections and an inflatable head section, flexible non-inflatable sections connecting the inflatable sections together and the head section to the adjacent inflatable section and constituting hinge means to permit the arranging of the inflatable body supporting sections directly upon each other with the head section upright and the arranging of the head section on a supporting surface and with the inflatable body supporting sections at an elevated inverted V-shaped relationship to form a supporting back relative to the head section as it forms a seat, and cooperative adjustable interchangeable connecting means between the side edges of each of the sections for removably maintaining the same in the desired relative positions.

A combination inflatable mattress and seating device comprising at least two inflatable body supporting sections and an inflatable head section, flexible non-inflatable sections connecting the inflatable sections together and the head section to the adjacent inflatable section and constituting hinge means to permit the arranging of the inflatable body supporting sections directly upon each other with the head section upright and the arranging of the head section on a supporting surface and with the inflatable body supporting sections at an elevated inverted V-shaped relationship to form a supporting back relative to the head section as it forms a seat, pair of eye extending from the sides of each of the sections, and straps selectively removably engaged with the eyes for holding the sections in the desired relative positions.
