The present invention relates to a hair grooming or treating device, more particularly, to a device for applying a liquid substance to the hair, especially of the human head, as in bleaching, tinting or dyeing. I

It is an object of the present invention to provide a hair grooming device of the character described which will facilitate the application of a treating liquid to the entire surface of each and every hair of a. head area being treated, from root to end' by simultaneously separating the hairs from one another and contacting them on all sides with the treating liquid.

It is another object of the present invention to provide a hair grooming device of the character described which will facilitate the uniform application of the treating liquid to each hair of a treated area.

It is also an object of the present invention to provide a hair grooming device of the character desecribed which will be sparing and economical in the use of the treating liquid.

It is a further object of the present invention to provide a hair grooming device of the character described which may be easily and simply and conveniently used by any individual, without previous training and with maximum efiiciency.

It is a still further object of the present invention to provide a hair grooming device which is neat and compact and convenient to carry and store; which is strong and durable and which is economical to produce.

The foregoing and other advantages and superiorities of the hair grooming device of the present invention will become more readily apparent to those skilled in the art from the embodiment thereof shown in the accompanying drawing and from the description following. It is to be understood, however, that such embodiment is shown by way of illustration only, to make the principles and practice of the invention more readily comprehensible, and without any intent of limiting the invention to the specific details therein shown.

Fig. 1 is a view in side elevation of one preferred embodiment of a hair grooming device of the present invention;

Generally stated, the present invention resides in the provision of a comb having teeth for separating the hair, a liquid reservoir emptying into 3Claims. (01.132-13),

the spaces betweenteeth and a soft, absorbent applicator fitted on the teeth adjacent the liquid outlets for receiving and uniformly spreading the liquid over the hair separated by the comb teeth on both sides of the comb teeth.

More specifically described, the hair grooming device of the present invention, as exemplified in the illustrative embodiment of the drawings, comprises a comb, generally designated as I0, having a back II from one longitudinal. end of which extend teeth I2 separated by spaces I3.

Through the back II of the comb III are formed transverse passages I4 opening, at one end in certain, as alternate spaces I3, and at the other end into the opposed edge of the back II, as illustrated. I

Longitudinally disposed on the said opposed edge of the comb back I I is a preferably tubular, liquid tight reservoir I5, the interior of which communicates with the passages I4.

The reservoir I5 may be provided with an opening I6 in an end face thereof, which opening It may be tapped to receive the threaded end I! of a closure member which may include a knurled knob I8 at its other end.

The reservoir I5 may be preferably provided with slightly resilient side walls I 9, which may be slightly inwardly pressed, when required, to promote the flow of liquid from the reservoir. The bottom parts 20 of walls I9 may, preferably, slope inwardly to promote the draining of the liquid from the reservoir I5 and to reduce sedimentation therein.

The walls of the reservoir I5 may be made of r a wholly transparent or translucent material, or a transparency 22 may be set into one or both of the walls I9, to permit inspection of the liquid level within the reservoir.

The comb may, if desired, be provided with a handle 23.

The comb may be formed of any suitable and desirable material conventionally used for the purpose, as vulcanized hard rubber, synthetic resin, or the like, and the reservoir may be wholly or partly integrally formed or molded with the comb or wholly or partly separately formed and adhesively or otherwise secured in place.

Mounted on the teeth I2, as by piercing of the teeth therethrough, is a soft, preferably resilient and absorbent applicator 25, as of natural or rubber sponge or other suitable material of similar characteristics, as matted or felted cotton or the like, which applicator 25 is positioned at the base of the teeth I2, at or close to the outlets of the passageways I4, in position to receive the.

3 liquid flowing from such passages and to absorb and distribute it evenly throughout its own mass for uniform application by its bottom surface 26 to the hair or the like.

Preferably, the applicator 25 is of approximately rectangular cross section and extends a distance to each side of the teeth 12, so that its surface 2t will contact each hair on each side of the teeth i2, insuring application of the liquid to the base of the hair, on one side of the comb when combing, as well as to the ends of the hair on the other side of the comb.

This completes the description of the hair grooming or treating device of the present invention. It will be readily apparent that the device is highly suitable and efiicient for the application of a liquid to the hair; that it will easily and effectively apply the liquid evenly and uniformly to each hair and to all of the hair treated; that its use is easy and. convenient and does not require. any trained skill; and that it is economicaland sparing in the use of the treating preparation, allowing for no spilling and enabling the preservation and use of any residual amounts that may remain in the reservoir after treatment- I It will also be apparent that numerous variations and modifications in the hair grooming device of the present'invention may be made by anyone skilled in the art, in accordance with the principles of the invention hereinabove set forth and Without the use of any inventive ingenuity. I desire-therefore, to be protected for all such variations and modifications that may be made within the spirit of the present invention and the scope of the claims hereto appended.

What I claim is:

1. A' hair grooming device of the character to expel liquid therefrom, and an applicator pad of soft. absorbent material mounted over said teeth and positioned adjacent said outlet termi- :nals in said spaces, said pad extending into said spaces between said teeth and to each side of said teeth.

' 2. The hair grooming device of claim 1, wherein a handle is provided at anend thereof continuous with said reservoir and side back portion.

3. The hair'grooming device of claim 1, wherein one of said side walls of said reservoirihas a light transmitting portion adapted to disclose the liquid level in the interior thereof.
