CHRISTIAN KIEFFER, OE LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA.
BOILER.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 25,511, dated September 20, 1859.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN Kmrrnn, of Lancaster city, county of Lancaster, and State of Pennsylvania, have'invented new and useful Improvements in Calorific Boilers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of extension and perforated pipes and frying pan with side pipes.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A represents the boiler, in which the water is kept boiling regularly, by the extension hot-air-fiue or pipe B, and the extension and perforated steam pipe C, leading from the furnace D, across the bottom of the boiler, and upward along the side. The furnace D, contains a small charcoal fire cylinder, within a cylinder containing water, the water being in the space E, between the fire cylinder, and concave cylinder of furnace D.
F, is the door and opening through which the fuel is put into the fire cylinder; G, the pipe leading from the water cylinder E into the bottom of the boiler A.
H is the frying pan located above the furnace D for baking or frying meats or vegetables. This pan H has two flues I-I- one at each end.
J represents a smaller boiler at the side of main boiler A, having a perforated pipe K extending from the main boiler across the bottom of the small boiler J, and half way upward along the side.
L, L, L, are kettles With perforated bottoms, and apertures M through which the pipe or hot air flue B passes out above. The kettles slide into and fit on each other and are for cooking purposes for all kinds of vegetables and fruits, and the cooking is done by the steam from the main boiler A passing through the open bottoms of the kettles.
IVhen the fire is kindled in the furnace D the heat passes upward and out of the fines or pipes I, and the lid N of flue B is placed over the top of the flue. After the draft and fire begins to heat, then the lid N is taken off the pipe B and the lids P are placed over the pipes I, I. The pan H is then heated ready for frying meats &c., and the heat likewise passes from the furnace through the hot air pipe B across the bottom of the main boiler A and upward through the kettles, which keeps the water at a regular boiling heat. The perforated steam pipe C also extends across the boiler and upward to assist in keeping the water boiling. The pipe G extending from the water in cylinder E is the feeder, and when the water in cylinder E becomes heated, then the cool water in pipe G is passing from the main boiler A to the furnace cylinder E and is there heated, and passes off into steam through the steam pipe G into the boiler A.
The advantages are the saving of fuel, and economy in price.
I do not claim a feeder or connecting steam pipes from the furnace to the boiler, as they have been used; but
hat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The construction of the extension and perforated steam pipe C, vith the extension hot air flue B the pan H with pipes I, I and perforated pipe K arranged and combined, substantially as herein described, and for the purposes set forth.
CHRISTIAN KIEFFER.
