Description

EATING DOLL l Filed May 28, 1949 VII IN VEN TOR.
Patented Nov. 28, 1950 EATING DOLL Edgar Kahn, New York, N. Y.
Application May 28, 1949, Serial No. 96,109
1 Claim.
This invention relates to an eating doll.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an eating doll wherein the lower jaw will bite upon a spoon as the spoon is extended into the opening in the head of the doll to discharge contents thereof and wherein there is provided a releasable chamber for receiving the contents whereby upon removal of the chamber the contents can be discharged, the chamber being connected to the head and removable therefrom and the head with the chamber being removable from the body of the doll.
It is another object of the present invention to provide in a doll construction a simple means for the connection of a head of the doll to the body which permits the head to be easily released from the body and while in its attached position permits the head to have a certain looseness and play simulating neck movement within limits.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a doll construction adapted to permit eating by the extension of a metal spoon through a mouth opening which is of simple constructio-n, inexpensive to manufacture, has a minimum number of parts, sturdy and compact, pleasing appearance and efficient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a doll with the lower jaw dropped and with a spoon about to be inserted through the mouth opening.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken through the doll and taken generally on line 2--2 of Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken through the head with the spoon inserted and with the jaw lifted onto the spoon.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary and perspective View v of the lower jaw construction.
Referring now to the figures, IB represents a dolls head having a mouth opening Il. Within this mouth opening is an operable lower jaw I2. This lower jaw comprises a main body I3 with a metal magnet Ill embedded in its upper face. This main body I3 is suspended by arms I5 and I6 having hooi: formations l'I thereon, from a transverse pin extending through the head structure, as indicated at I8, and having its ends embedded in boss portions I9 and 2G extending inwardly of the inner wall face of the head Ill. The jaw structure is accordinglyfree to swing inwardly and outwardly. The jaw is supported on a shelf portion 2l of the head which is preferably curved to allow for the swing of the jaw.
If a metal spoon 22 is extended into the opening I I, the magnet I4 will cause the jaw to be lifted upon the spoon thereby to cause automatically the closing of the jaw to simulate the grasping of food from the spoon.
The head has a depending portion 25 which is internally threaded at 26 and receives a depending pocket tube 21 threaded at its upper end to engage with the external threads 25 of the depending portion. A tube will receive the food or liquid dispensed to the doll and can be removed from the head to discharge the contents thereof.
The head is also provided at its lower end with a flange 28 having threads adapted to be worked through threads 3I of a ring 32. The threads 3| lie on an inwardly extending flange of the ring 32 and will prevent the outward displacement of the head from the ring 32 except when the threads of the iiange 28 are turned or threaded through the threads 3 I. There is sufficient looseness of the flange within the ring to permit the head to have some movement relative to the ring. To this ring there can be secured a dolls dress 33 as by tying about the ring of a band 34. This dress may have a depending bib portion 35.
The doll can have a body 36 covered with ilexible material 3l which can be secured to the ring 32 at its upper end by an adhesive and which provides a pocket 33 for receiving the tube 21. Upon the removal of the head Il! from the ring 32 the tube 2I can be easily removed from the head. Also the doll body, by being clasped tightly, can retain the tube 21 so that the head can be removed from the ring 32 without the tube and thereafter the contents of the tube poured from the main body 3B.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as dened by the-ap pended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:
A doll construction comprising a head having a mouth opening, and a jaw pivotally connected to the interior of the head and workable in said mouth opening, said jaw having a magnet embedded in the upper part thereof and adapted to be attracted to a metal spoon or similar article when passed into the upper part of the mouth opening whereby to simulate a swallowing action or the taking of food, and a depending tube closed at its bottom end and releasably secured to the 5 head for receiving the liquid or solid material passed through the mouth opening, and a ring 4 having a doll body connected to it, the doll body REFERENCES CITED having a poket for receiving the dose@ tube The following references are of record in the connected with the head, sald rmg having an me of this patent: inwardly extending ange, said head having an outwardly extending flange adapted to be passed 5 UNITED STATES PATENTS through the ange of the ring by exerting action Number Name Date whereby said head, when Within the ring, Will 1,751,773 Trosper Mar. 25, 1930 have looseness and will be retained against Out- 2,277,672 Stone Mar. 31, 1942' Ward displacement;
