3Claims; (omit- 12) This invention relates to new and useful im- '7 provements in temperature controls and more 1 particularly to a device adapted to regulate the temperature of water leaving a spigot. The primary feature of this invention is to provide a device of the character referred to adapted for attachment to hot and cold water supply pipes, thereby regulating the temperature of'the water leaving a single outlet provided in the device.

Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein, for the purpose of illustration, I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 represents generally a housing formed of a forward cover plate 6 and rear plate 1, said plates being held together by a plurality of screws 8 which extend through the forward plate and into the rear plate.

Suitably secured to the inner face of the socket 25 is the upper end of a downwardly and inwardly curved pointer arm 21.
The lower pointed end 28 of said pointer arm is adapted to register opposite the center of the temperature graduated scale 29 formed on the outer face of the plate 6.
When the pointer is in this position, as shown clearly in Figure 1, the arm is is in a vertical position and valve plate I1 is centered, thereby partially closing chambers M for the inlet ports 9 and ID a substantially equal amount.
For a desired change in temperature of the water mixed in chamber 16, knob 26 is turned slightly until the pointed end 28 of pointer arm 21 opposes the desired graduation in the tempera 3 ture graduated scale 29, and the lower end of ar 19 is swung toward one side, thereby sliding valve 13 to close one of the chambers I4 more than the other and thus adjust the proportion of hot and cold water entering chamber l6.
By moving the straight ends of the valve 13 across the square chambers I4, equal movements A second outlet port 3| is provided in' rear plate 1 for receiving an outlet pipe leading to a shower, or other means. This outlet port 3|, when not in use, is conventionally plugged and, when in use, the port 30 is plugged, thereby causing more pressure to be maintained in the housing 5.
- In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though I have herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention that the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, a housin including rear and forward cover plates, said rear cover plate having a pair of inlet ports, one of said inlet ports for hot liquid, the other port for cold liquid, a shaft journaled for rotation in the upper portion of the housing, the outer end of said shaft extending outwardly from the forward cover plate ofthe housing, a finger gripping knob mounted on the outer end of the shaft adapted for revolving the shaft, a pointer arm connected at one end to the shaft, said forward cover plate having graduations on its outer face over which the other end of the pointer arm is movable, a cylindrical valve slidably carried bythe rear cover plate and arrangedto open and close the ports, a
pin projecting from the valve medially the length thereof, an arm secured to the shaft and having a longitudinal slot receiving the pin to slidably actuate the valve upon a rotation of the shaft, said arm being disposed between said forward and rear cover plates, and a plurality of discharge ports in the lower end of the housing, said ports being formed in the respective rear and cover plates.
2, A mixing valve comprising a valve housin composed of two detachably connected sections, one of said sections having a pair of inlet ports, a slidable cylindrical valve in the housing having an undisturbed outer surface, said valve being supported on one of said sections, a chamber betweeneachport and the valve, said valve having straight ends movable across the respective chambers and said chambers having straight right angle walls to effect equal opening or closing areas in the chambers by like movements of the valve,
a shaft journaled for rotation on both of said sections, and an operating arm interposed betweensaid sections and projecting laterally from valve opening and closing equal areas of the chambers upon like movements of the operating means, said housing being composed of first and second detachably connected sections, theflrst section slidably supporting the valve, said arm being interposed betweensaid sections, said arm being disengaged from said valve and said shaft being disengaged from said first section upon removal of said second section from said first section FRANK J.
