IN VEN TOR. Ernesf Lisle Wayne ATTORNEY Patented May 31, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a memorandum paper holder.
It is an object of the invention to provide a device of the character described which has been specially designed for use in conveniently making memoranda of a temporary nature and whereby paper from a roll may be utilized for receiving the memoranda with a provision for, from time to time, tearing off the used paper and constantly supplying fresh paper for use.
The holder has been specially designed for use as standard desk equipment.
It is another object of the invention to provide a memorandum holder of the character described which, in the main, is composed of a single piece of sheet met-a1 provided with a space wherein the paper roll is concealed with novel means for feeding the paper from the roll as required.
With the above and other objects in view the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, operation and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the holder.
Figure 2 is a side view showing the end caps removed and the feeding mechanism partly broken away.
Figure 3 is an enlarged end elevation, partly in section, taken on the line 33 of Figure 2,
Figure 4 is an edge view of one of the end caps.
Figure 5 is an inside view thereof, and
Figure 6 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 66 of Figure 3.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate the same parts in each of the figures, the numral I designates the paper roll container which is substantially cylindrical in form and which is preferably of relatively thin sheet metal having a free edge terminating inside of the container, said metal sheet being extended horizontally forming an elongated base 2 and being then retracted to form an inclinded writing table 3 whose free margin is slightly upturned and formed into a transverse edge, or blade, 4. The upper portion of the table may be riveted, or otherwise secured. to the top portion of the container l.
Within the container 1 there is a roll of memorandum paper 5. The free end of the paper may be drawn between the horizontal base portion l and the free margin of the container, as shown in Figure 1, and at the juncture of the base 2 and 2 table 3 there is a transverse slit 6 through which the paper passes and the free end may then be drawn around the curved lower end of the table and may rest upon the table, while in use, as shown in Figures 1 and 2.
As is indicated in Figure 2 the paper container I, having its inner margin free, is slightly expansible and the end caps I, 1 may be fitted therein. These end caps have oppositely disposed knobs, or studs, 3, 8 and when the caps are fitted into place they will slightly expand the container and they may then be turned until the knobs 8 register which the corresponding openings 9, 9 into which they will snap so that the end caps will be held secured in place to conceal the paper roll and give a better over all appearance to the holder.
Secured to the opposite margins of the table 3 are the bearing blocks l0, l0. These blocks are transversely aligned and they are positioned near the upper free margin of the table. They are formed with the inside slots II, II to receive the margins of the table and they are pinned in place by the pins l2, 12 which are fitted downwardly through the blocks and through the margins of the table, as shown in Figure 3.
Above the table there is a transverse gripping roller 13 whose ends are reduced forming pintles which have bearings in the blocks H], as shown in Figure 3.
Beneath the table 3 and having bearings in the blocks Ill there is a transverse shaft 14, one end of which has a hand grip I5 fixed thereon whereby the shaft may be turned. Fixed on this shaft l4, and spaced about, are the cylindrical friction rollers it, 16 which work through corresponding openings I1, I! in the table and said friction rollers work in co-operation with the gripping roller it. the free end of the paper passing through. between them and being gripped thereby as is clearly illustrated in Figure 6. Upon an appropriate rotation of the friction rollers I6 the paper will be fed so as to carry a previous memorandum past said rollers and to bring a clean portion of the sheet into position for use. That portion of the paper to be discarded may be readily detached along the sharp cutting edge 4.
When the roll of paper has become exhausted and it becomes desirable to remove one of the end caps I it may be turned in an appropriate direction to cause the expansion of the container I so that the knobs 8 may be readily unseated and the cap thus easily removed.
The base of the holder may be provided with suitable supporting legs, as I8, preferably formed.
of rubber, or similar resilient material so as not to soar the desk on which the holder is used.
The drawings and description are illustrative ierely while the broad principle of the invention will be defined by the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A memorandum paper holder comprising, a frame formed of a strip of thin material a portion thereof forming a base and one end portion shaped into a cylindrical container for containing a roll of paper, said strip terminating, at said one end, in a free margin which is spaced from the base to provide a passageway for the unwound paper, said strip having another portion connected to the other end of the base portion and forming an inclined table which overlies the container, said strip having an externally curved surface and a transverse slot at the juncture of the base and table through which slot, and around which surface, the unwound paper may pass onto the table, the upper end of the table extending beyond the container and being curved upwardly and terminating in a transverse cutting edge, said extended end being provided with a plurality of the container.
