Description

CIGARETTE HOLDER Filed June 24, 1946 4 M 2% 7 WA g 7/ //z Patented Apr. 5, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to cigarette boxes or containers in which cigarettes are usually held for household use.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a holder of this character, which will be exceptionally ornamental, and will at the same time be so constructed that with each operation of the movable support thereof, a single cigarette will be delivered at the front of the holder, to be removed for smoking.
Another object of the invention is to provide a movable delivery slide which will deliver but one cigarette at each operation, thereby insuring against damaging the cigarettes, due to cigarettes becoming wedged between the movable member and edge of the discharge opening of the box.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a cigarette box or holder, constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 22 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the cigarette holder comprises a base 5, and a box-like body portion 6, the box-like body portion 6 being preferably constructed of transparent material of a plastic character, so that the brand, as well as the number of cigarettes held within the container may be determined at all times, without the necessity of opening the container, to examine the contents thereof.
A hinged top I closes the body portion or container and affords means whereby ready access to the interior of the body portion or container may be had, to replenish or clean the body portion or container.
Mounted for sliding movement within the body portion, is the bottom member 8, which comprises a vertical rear wall 9 and an inclined supporting member II), which has its lower front end curved downwardly and upwardly, as at H,
providing a recess of a construction to accommodate one cigarette at each operation of the bottom member 8 to deliver a cigarette beyond the front wall of the container, to be removed.
The curved member II is so constructed that when the bottom member 8 is in its normal position, completely housed within the container, it
will close the discharge opening I2 of the body portion or container. A finger piece I 3 is secured to the portion ll, so that the bottom member 8 may be readily operated to remove a cigarette.
The sides of the bottom member extend downwardly and provide supports l4 that rest on the base 5 to: slide thereover and hold the bottom member 8 against twisting to retard movement thereof.
As shown by Figure 2 of the drawing, the vertical rear wall extends above the upper end of the inclined supporting member l0 and provides a stop to prevent the cigarettes, which are indicated by the reference character A, from passing over the upper edge of the wall 9 to retard movement and cause jamming of the bottom member 8.
From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, I have provided a cigarette holder or container for personal use, which will not only maintain the cigarettes against becoming dried out, but will at the same time provide a container which will deliver a single cigarette with each operation of the bottom member.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
A cigarette container and delivery device, including a box-like body portion having a delivery slot disposed transversely along the front lower edge thereof, a hinged top for the body portion, a movable cigarette support including a forwardly and downwardly inclined member movable within the body portion, the front lower edge thereof being formed into a trough into which cigarettes are delivered from the inclined member, a vertical rear wall forming a part of the movable cigarette support the lower end of the rear wall resting on the bottom of the body portion providing a support for the rear end of the movable cigarette support, and said rear Wall being extended above the upper rear edge of the inclined member and terminating at a point adjacent to the top, providing a stop for cigarettes held in the body portion.
