This invention relates to clothespins and more particularly to clothespins of the spring clip type.
An object of the present invention is to provide a clothespin of the type indicated of an improved and simplified construction which can be fabricated with ease and economy, from fiat stock of metals or plastics.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved clothespin of the type indicated which in use can be readily manipulated with one hand to position the pin in a locking position with respect to the line and fabric without any sliding frictional contact with the fabric calculated to injure the same.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the parts and the improved article as hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
One sheet of drawings accompanies this specification as a part thereof, in wh ch like reference characters indicate like parts throughout.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved Clothespin; and
Figure 2 is a side view of the device applied to a clothes line and fabric, the latter shown in cross section.
In accordance with the present invention the improved clothespin can be stamped from sheet metal or suitable plastics having resilient properties, and is formed as an elongated strip, having at one end laterally directed flanges 22.
This strip is bent upon itself to form three reaches, 5, 6 and l, the two end portions 6 and 'l of the strip being oppositely disposed and adiacent. Thus, as illustrated in Figure 1, the end portion 6 of the strip having the lateral flanges l--2, is positioned intermediate the opposite end portion 7, and the medial portion 5. After thus bending, the lateral flanges I2 have their end parts 3- i bent over the end portion 1 to constitute a loop 9, which functions as a combined guide for the end portion 1 and also as a finger engaging member by means of which the intermediate reach 5 to which it is attached can be pressed against the part 5 to provide clearance between the portions 6 and I, so that the device can be positioned over a garment G or other fabric hung over a clothes line 8 without any sliding frictional contact of the garment with either the portions 6 or 1 of the clip. When thus positioned, the release of pressure upon the end portions 3-4 of the flanges I-2, permits the medial end reach 6 to spring out and irictionally engage the clothes line and garment against the end reach I of the clip.
It will be understood that in practice the proportions and precise shape of the parts may be varied according to taste, within the scope of the present invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. Clothespin comprising a strip of resilient material having at one end a loop positioned perpendicular to one face of the strip, said strip bent back upon its opposite face and havng its other end portion extending through said loop.
2. Clothespin comprising a str p of resilient material having at one end lateral marginal extensions extending forward over one face of the strip to form a loop, said strip bent upon itself substantially parallel with the face opposite the loop to constitute two reaches and again bent so that its other end portion extends through the loop to constitute a third reach, substantially parallel w th the other reaches of the strip.
3. Clothespin comprisng a strip of resilient material bent transversely upon itself to constitute three substantially parallel spaced reaches, with the ends of the strip oppositely disposed, one end reach positioned intermediate the other reaches and formed at its end with lateral extensions forming a loop embracing the 1 other end reach.
