A further object of the invention is to provide a combination raincoat and cushion which is simple and easy to manufacture, which is compact when carried, which gives the desired protection from the elements, and which is otherwise well adapted for the purposes described.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the improved convertible cushion, and all its parts and combinations as set forth in the claims, and all equivalents thereof.

Extending continuously along. thefront'edges tit and along a portion of the-loweredges H of the panels I 2 and I 3 is a ilnultiple slide operated fastener I9 having a slide The connection between the cape l0 and the hood II is made interiorly of the slide fastener I9 and extends in a generally U-shape around and adjacent the portions of the fastener l9 which extend along the edges I! of the panels l2 and I3, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4. This method of attachment prevents the metal of the slide fastener l9 from coming in direct contact with the person of the wearer by causing that portion of the fastener l9 which extends along the edges I! to overlie the cape l0 when the latter is being worn as is shown clearly in Figs. 2 and 3. This method of connection is also important in connection with the folding operation of the garment within the hood to form a cushion. In addition, the hood I l is of such ample proportions that the portion of slide fastener l9 extending along the edges I8 is never in close proximity to the face of the wearer.

The cape portion It may be folded into the hood portion H as shown in Fig. 4, and when it is so folded, the slide fastener l9 may be closed as shown in Fig. 5.

By having the connection between the cape portion and the hood portion extend along the lower (shorter) edge of the hood portion only, the folding of the cape portion into the hood is greatly facilitated. In addition, the location of the above-mentioned connection interiorly of the slide fastener permits the fastener to be easily and quickly closed to form a cushion after the cape portion has been folded within the head por-' tion. When the invention is in the condition of Fig. 5, it is in all respects well adapted for use as a cushion.

The invention may be used anywhere. that a cushion is desirable, but finds its best use .where the user desires a cushion while seated out of doors, If, while the invention is so employed rain should threaten or if for any other reason the user should feel the need of the protection aiforded by the raincoat or cape, it is a simple matter for him to open the fastener 19, shake the cape or coat l0 out of the hood portion II (as in Fig. 3), and to wear the cape in the conventional manner (shown in Fig. 1).

- The fact that thisinvention is well adapted to either of its dual purposes gives it unique utility, especially to fishermen, spectators at outdoor sporting events, or anyone engaged in sedentary outdoor pastimes or occupations. I

Various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention, such as making the garment with sleeves or in other styles than that shown in the embodiment herein described or by making the garment of other materials than those mentioned, and all of such changes are contemplated as may come within the scope of the claims.

What I claim is:

1. A garment convertible into a cushion com prising a coat having a neck opening, and a hood attached to said coat adjacent and coextensive with the margin of said neck opening and exteriorly thereof, said hood being 'of substantially rectangular shape and having an opening extending along two adjacent sides thereof, said opening being provided with a multiple slide operated fastener-along said two sides, said coat being foldable into said hood through said opening to form a cushion.

2. A'garment convertible into a cushion comprising a coat having a neck opening, and a hood connected to said coat adjacent and coextensive with the margin of said neck opening, said hood being of substantially rectangular shape and having an opening extending along two adjacent sides thereof, said opening being provided with a multiple slide operated fastener along said two sides, said coat being foldable into said hood through said opening to form a. cushion, said connection between the hood and coat being along one of said fastener equipped sides and inside of the hood with respect to said fastener.

3. A garment convertible into a cushion comprising a hood made up of a pair of substantially rectangular panels each having a pair of long sides and a pair of shorter sides, said panels being closed along one long side, along an adjacent short side, and'along a portion of the second short side, and having a continuous opening along the second long side and theunclosed portion of the second short side, the edges of said panels adjacent the opening being provided with a multiple slide operated fastener, and a coat having a neck opening, said coat being connected to the interior of said hood in such a manner that the margin of the neck opening registers with the panel edges extending along the unclosedportion of the second short side of the hood, said coat being selec-' tively foldable into said hood through said hood opening to form a cushion.

'4. A parka-type garment convertible into a cushion comprising a garment including 9. rectangular hood having an opening along two adjacent sides thereof, the remainder of said garinent being connected to said hoodinteriorly adjacent the boundaries of said opening along one of said sides, said opening being provided with a multiple slide operated fastener, the remainder of said garment being foldable into said hood -through said opening to form a cushion.
