Description

FLUSHING DEVICE FOR DOUCHE SYRINGES Filed Dec. 4, 1946 IN VEN TOR.
ATI'D RN EYE Patented Dec. 145, 1948 UNETED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in vaginal syringes, and more particularly to the provision of means for expanding the vagina or other orifice during the syringing thereof.
With the usual vaginal syringe having a tube to be inserted in the vagina or other orifice with a bulb attached thereto for forcing a medicated fluid into the vagina, it has been often found necessary to use a strong medicated fluid and considerable pressure, as the orific-e is naturally contracted and the fluid does not properly reach the various parts and crevices thereof for the necessary cleansing and germicidal action. It is, therefore, an object of this invention to provide means for holding an orifice expanded to enable quick, unobstructed drainage of the cleansing fluid from the orifice, thus obtaining forced flushing action and obviating the necessity of strong germicidals. With the usual syringe a considerable portion of the cleansing fluid is retained in the orifice after the removal of the syringe, due to the natural contraction of the orifice. With the device herein described unhindered flushing of the orifice is accomplished without retention of any of the fiuid, enabling a quick and thorough cleansing.
It is, therefore, an object of this invention to provide a device for expanding the Vagina or other orifice during a syringing operation to enable the free flow of fluid to all parts of the orifice.
A further object is to provide an orifice expanding device which can be used for the vagina, rectum, nose and other orifices where it is desired to introduce a medicated or cleansing fluid.
The above and other objects are attained by the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, and in which:
Fig. l is a side view of a device embodying the invention in a contracted condition.
Fig. 2 is a side view of the device in an expanding condition.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the device.
Referring to Fig. l of the drawings, there is shown a vaginal douche having a bulb l with a tube 2, which is of a well known type. Encircling the tube 2 is a collar 3 having a bearing 4 with a pivot pin 5 and a bearing 6 with a pivot pin 1. The collar has ears 8 receiving a wing nut 9 for clamping the collar to the tube 2. Pivoted on pins 5 and I are levers Ill, each having a handle attached thereto as shown at l3. To each lever is attached a semi-cylindrical member l2, which members are adapted to embrace the tube 2 when the levers are in the position shown in Fig. 1.
When the handles l 3 are pressed towards each other, the members l2 move outwardly from the tube 2 and expand the vagina or other orifice. The members l2 can be maintained in an expanded position by means of a ring I5 about the levers H), which is adjacent the handles I3 and when slid towards the handles moves the handles towards each other as shown in Fig. 2. The ring l5 enables both hands to be used to manipulate the bulb I and other parts connected with the vaginal douche.
It will be seen that there has been provided a simple and effective device for expanding orifices when using with douching devices and the like.
The above description is to be considered as illustrative and not limitative of the invention of which modifications can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
The invention having been described, what is claimed is:
In a vaginal douche having a bulb, a tube extending from said bulb and a nozzle attached to the tube, in combination with a split collar slidably mounted on the tube, ears formed on and extending from said split collar, nut and screw means through said ears for securing said split collar to the tube,.bifurcated bearing lugs extending from diametrically opposed portions of said split collar, a plurality of manually operable levers, means pivoting said levers to said respective bearing lugs, a plurality of solid members on said levers and having opposed substantially semi-cylindrical recesses for receiving the tube, whereby said members abut each other while embracing said tube, said members being tapered in the direction of insertion of the nozzle, whereby when the free ends of said levers are moved toward each other, said members are moved oppositely to each other away from the tube for expanding the vaginal orifice to form drainage passages about the nozzle and tube, and a lock ring embracing said tube and levers for file of this patent: 1
