J. C. FOREMAN GARBAGE cm LI NER Filed Oct. 22, 1946 Patented Jan. 6, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GARBAGE oANEim R Julius Foreman, Chicago, Ill. Ap'liucauoifotobizz, 194g, Serial No. 704,847
My invention relates to arbage can liners, having the following advantages; namely, that they are made of paper, or other material, economical to manufacture. The said liners will be reinforced by the garbage can itself,a nd will confine all the garbage and materials subjected to putrefaction, simultaneously confining the odors, and maintaining the garbage can clean at all times, and free of objectionable odors. i"Ifhe said liners may be disposed of, together with the garbage in the garbage collection trucks, or they may be used several times beforefinal disposition thereof is made.
An important object of my invention isto provide a garbage can liner made of a blank'of paper, or cardboard material, providing suitable reinforcement thereto, by.an over-lapping, locking seam, longitudinally thereof, a reinforced bottom structure secured therein, and suitable manipulating hand holes for manipulating, and handling the liner when assembling, or removing it from the garbage can, with which it is associated.
Another object of my invention isto provide a garbage can liner of the aforementioned character, which has a multiplicity of hook elements, so as to permit the same .to be readily hung over the top edges of the opening in a garbage can.
Another object of my invention is to provide a garbage can liner of the aforementioned character, which is simple in construction, practical, and eificient for the purposes for which it is purported to be used, and of such elemental construction as to warrant economical manufacture thereof in quantity production.
Other features, ancillary objects, and advan tages, inherent in my invention, will become readily apparent from an examination of the accompanying drawings, which bear further elucidation in the ensuing description, wherein like numerals designate like parts, and in which,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a garbage can with my invention, namely, the garbage can liner assembled therein, ready for receiving the disposable garbage material therein.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the method of insertion, or removal of the liner with respect to the garbage can.
Fig. 3 is a development showing the blank necessary for the production of a garbage can liner, in accordance with the teachings, and practices, to be expounded hereinafter as the attributes, and novel improvements resident in my inventlon.
aims. (01. 220 65) Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken, substantially, on the lines 4'4 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view taken substantially on the lines 55 of Fig. 2, the said view having been orientated in order to facilitate depiction thereof within the space limitations of the drawing.
Referring to the various views, my invention is generally designated 1, and is adapted to fitremovably, and hang over the top lips, or edges of a garbage can 6.
-The garbage can liner is made from a blank, generally designated 8, which is cut out to the configuration indicated'in Fig. 3, and thus provides two tabs, 9 and I 0, a top edge I1, which is gummed, as well as the'tabs, 9 and H), which are gummedat l8 and I9.
' Along'the top edge, I also provide a line-where the" top edge I'L'andthe tabs 9 and ID are to be folded over," to 'provide'a suitable reinforcing'top edge,at'th same time retaining therein, the hook element [5, made of suitable wire material, each having a peened over-end l6 which is enlarged, so as to retain in rigid assemblagethe hooks l5,'when 'thereinforcement edge I7" is folded over and glued on the face of the blank.
Dual hand holes, 1 land 12, and'l3 and I4, are
provided equally demarcated from the fold line, so" that they will be congruent, and in superimposition when the top H, is folded over, and thus "furnishsuitably' reinforced hand holes for manipulation of' the garbage can'liner. The tabs 20 and 2| are provided with gummed surfaces 25 on the top of tab 20, whereas the tab 2! is gummed atits bottom surface 24, in order topermit of assemblage, forming the seamed joint 36, illustrated in Fig. 2 and in the crosssectional view, Fig; 4.
The tabs 20 and 2| are bent on the lines 22 and 23, respectively,'one being bent backward, the other being bent forward, in order to provide the lock-seam arrangement 36 heretofore mentioned. The bottom 33 has acircular foldline 31 at the root of a multiplicity of tabs 34, which are interspaced from one another by virtue of the cut-out portions 38, so that the said tabs 34 maybe bent to upright position, on the circular fold-line 31, and be cemented to the glued portion indicated at 26.
The angular straps 21 and 28, are provided with partially glued portions 29, and 30, at the top surface. The intervening space 3| being covered with mucilage, or binder underneath, or on the under-surface thereof, as indicated at 32, Fig. 5 in order to permit of an interlacing connection into one of the openings 35, and out of the other opening 35, so as to provide a special reinforcement for the bottom structure of the garbage can liner.
Thus, it can be seen that I have provided a garb-age can liner which is cheap, and economical to manufacture, which is useful for the Purposes for which it is destined to be used, and which can be manufactured economically.
It will be understood that the form of the invention herein d-epicte'd'and described is purely illustrative, and that other shapes and forms may be made up without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
