1 Claim.
My invention relates to an inhalator device, for holding a medicament beneficially adapted for the relief of nose and head colds, or symptoms of allergy disorders.
The salient feature of my invention is the adjustable means provided for a two nozzle inhalator, either nozzle being self-extendable to and from the other to fit different width nostrils of young or old persons.
Another feature of my invention is the material most adaptable for the purpose used for, for example, the device may be made of plastics, or
of metal, either of which must result in a very smooth polish surface of the nozzles, and also be durable and attractively presentable, as my device will be carried around in a pocket or bag, and used whenever desired, and will be compact and inexpensive for the trade.
Another feature of my invention is the shape of the nozzles being fiat on the inner 'ends facing each other, and arcuated or curved on the outer ends, which aids in the self adjusting means when inserted in the different widths or sizes of nostrils.
Other features of my invention will appear as the description proceeds in the following specification, accompanied by the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevational View of my adjustable nozzle positioning inhalator device, broken away for showing the suction holes in the nozzles.
Figure 2 is an end view of my device as shown in Figure 1, and broken away similarly.
Figure 3 is a similar view as Figure 1, showing the nozzles spaced further apart for extreme wide nostrils.
Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional View of my device taken on line 4-4 of Figure 2 and '7.
Figure 5 shows an exploded view of all parts of my device in perspective.
Figure 6 is a top plan view of the box member of my device, with cover removed so as to illustrate the insertion and securing the stick of medicament onto a projecting ridge portion at the ends thereof, which rest onto a similar ridge portion on the inside bottom floor portion.
Figure 7 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of my device taken on line 'I'I of Figure l.
Figure 8 is a longitudinal view, similar to Figure 1, but broken away, to disclose a modified form of only one nozzle being adjustable, the other nozzle bein integrally fixed to the cover member, the principle being the same as the original form, to increase and decrease the space 2 between the nozzles for difierent width nostrils.
Figure 9 shows in perspective my device as shown in Figures 1 to 8.
Figure 10 shows a solid formation of one nozzle to the cover.
Referring to the drawing, the numerals I and 2 designate the box and cover members of my device, in which the box I is provided with a central ridge-like partition 3 on the bottom floor 4 and end portions 5 and 6 thereof, the bottom may have vents or air inlet openings 1, screened lfso desired, to filter the air, but not shown for reason it may not be necessary. However, the vents may be on lower portion of ends or sides, if so desired, and may be just openings, without being pressed from the bottom, as shown.
The cover 2 carrying most of the operating parts of my device, is provided with two elongated slots or slotted portions 8 and 9, above which are slidable onto the crown portion of the cover, two independent and duplicated nozzle members II, each having identical suction holes or passageways I2 extending from the tip end thereof, to the stem end portion I3, which is threaded to be secured to the slider members I 4 and I5, one known as the female and the other as the male slider, respectively. The stem I3 of both nozzles I I extend through the slots 8 and 9, and holes I9 of the slider members I4 and I5, the female slider I4 having an open slotted portion I8, so .the stem I3 of the male slider I5 when locked by the nut 20, will operate therein and out therefrom, the female slider I4 being similarly locked by a nut 20 to its respective and coacting nozzle II, all of which are clearly shown in Figures 4, 5, 6 and 7.
The exploded view of Figure 5 shows the female and male sliders I 4 and I5 interlocked, and also separated from each other for the purpose of illustration, in which the lip or turned edges I1 is for the operation of the male slider therein.
In Figure 8, a modified form of the adjustment means for spacing apart the nozzles II, is shown with one nozzle II fixed in a stationary position by the nut 20, instead of a slot 1 in the cover 2, there is only a hole thereat for the stem I3 to extend therethrough, as there is no adjustment means, only this is in the other nozzle II, which is attached and secured to a plain plate slider l5 similarly to the male slider I5, there is no use for a female slider in this form, if desired, groove portions may be provided in the upper side portions of box for the plate slider I5 to retain its precise movement, and the inside portion of the crown portion I 0 may be smooth-like to provide exact fitness of the slider IS. The nozzle ll' may be an integral part of the cover 2, but in moulding same, as in plastic material it involves many difiiculties and much expense, so to secure the original nozzle II in a stationary position would be keeping within a low production cost.
It is to be understood that I may use powder or liquid medicament within my vaporizing device, eith'er in the saturated form, or as desired, also the stick 2| may be of any shape suitable for the purpose intended, and the ridge-like portion 3 and upright portion 3a, may be replaced by other suitable means to hold and secure stick of medicament 2|, all of which is optional,
In operation, a medicament element 2| is pressed onto the vertical ridge-like portions 3a, clearly shown in Figures 4 and 6, the element 2| being soft pliable to be secured thereto, and rests onto the bottom ridge 3, so the vaporized air may circulate upwardly from both sides of they stick of medicament 2| to the suction passageways 12 of each respective nozzle II, the area of the vents I on each side of the stick and ridge 3 being sufiicient for the exact, or near so, volume of air to be drawn in each of the. suction holes 12, as all the time the chamber 22'is full of the odorized or vaporized air emanating from the stick of medicament 2|, or any other substance therein. The nozzles II are set apart by the adjustment means of the sliders l4 and I5, to. fit the nostrils of the user, and may remain permanently, or may be adjusted from time to, time by different users, but practically it will be used constantly, or whenever desired by the same person. If in a. family of many persons, the low cost will permit each one to have their own inhalator. In the modified form, where only one nozzle is adjustably set, the operation is the same. In these modified forms, shown clearly in Figures 8 and 10, particularly in Figure 10,
the original numeral of the same part is primed accordingly, the nozzle being ll, cover 2' and hole l2.
In all of the foregoing description of parts shown in the drawing, it is possible that some changes may be made before my device is placed onto the market, and therefore, it is to be understood that I desire to reserve all rights to make the necessary alterations or changes in the parts of my device, providing the same come within the spirit of my invention and within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is as follows:
In a nasal device of the character described, a container, a pair of arcuated nozzles movably carried on said container, said container having spaced aperture covered by said nozzles, said nozzles connected to movable plate members within said container, said plate members having holes for securing stem of each of said nozzles, said nozzles when engaged by the passages of the nostrils being adapted to centralize themselves therein due to outer lip portions of nostrils applying pressure on said'arcuated portions of said nozzles during their insertion therein.
