3 Claims.
The object of my invention is to provide a sanitary container ior'soiled and odoriferous articles, such as soiled or wet diapers, where such articles may be conveniently temporarily stored, the construction being such that the various parts may be readily kept clean and free from objectionable odors.
The accompanying drawing illustrates my invention.
Fig. 1 is a medial vertical section of an embodiment of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a perspective of the underside of the cover of the primary container;
Fig. 3 is a perspective of the cover for the secondary container; and
Fig. 4 is a perspective of the removable, washable and reversible portion of the secondary cover.
In the drawing, Ii] indicates a primary container, which may be of an ornamental character, provided with a hinged cover I l easily raised and lowered by foot-power through the medium of pedal I2, lever l3, and link l4, in a well-known manner.
Secured to the underface of cover II are inwardly-facing channels [6 arranged in U form. Dimensioned to be slidingly received between, and supported by, channels I6 is a secondary cover plate l'l, preferably of metal though possibly of stifi cardboard or plyboard, over which is secured the readily-washable cover element l8 preferably made of a washable absorbent fabric such as diaper cloth.
Element [8 is provided attwo opposite edges with tabs I9 which are folded back over the main body l8 and connected by elastic tapes 2!], and at the opposite two edges with tabs 2i, which, when folded back over the main body as shown in Fig. 3, may be connected by tapes 22 provided at their ends with mating fasteners 23.
Supported within the primary container Ill is a secondary container 25 with its open upper end at a level intermediate the planes of the inner faces of the parallel arms of channels l6 so that, when the primary cover H is closed, the absorbent element I8 of the secondary cover l'll8 will lie upon and close the open upper end of the secondary container 25, being raised, against gravity, away from support by the channels l6 when cover ll comes to closed position.
The open mouth of the U formed by channels l6 faces one of the free edges of cover ll so that the composite secondary cover Il--l8 may be readily slid into and out of the channels.
Conveniently, one corner of plate H (at I1) is notched so that link l4 will not be engaged.
The element l8, being washable and absorbent, efliciently obstructs odors arising from the wet and odoriferous diapers placed in the secondary container and, being washable and reversible, may be easily kept in sanitary condition.
I claim as my invention:
1. A sanitary container comprising a primary container having an open upper end, a secondary container having an open upper end and receivable in said primary container with its open upper end spaced slightly below said upper end of said primary container, a movable cover for said primary container, an open-mouthed guideway carried by the under side of said cover, and a composite secondary cover slidably receivable in and supported by said guideway, said secondary cover comprising a rigid body plate and a removable washable cover for said plate, the thickness of said secondary cover being less than the vertical freedom of the guideway so that, when the primary cover is closed, the secondary cover may be engaged by the secondary container and raised from support by the guideway.
2. For use in an apparatus of the class described in the preceding claim, said removable cover element comprising a reversible polygonal main body of washable fabric having tabs projecting from two opposite edges folded over the main body and connected at their ends, and other tabs projected from two other opposite edges and provided with separable means by which the free ends of said last-mentioned tabs may be connected.
V 3. For use in an apparatus of the class described including a rigid cover body plate, a reversible cover element comprising a polygonal main body of washable fabric having tabs projecting from two opposite edges and folded over said body plate and connected at their ends, and other tabs projected from two other opposite edges and provided with separable means by which the free ends of said last-mentioned tabs may be connected across said body plate.
