This inventiou relates to a torpedo net having a mesh structure. There are two types of torpedo nets in general use: one type being used to protect moving vessels, and the oth'er type being used to protect stationary objects. The net may also be divided into two classes in regard 110 the manner in which the torpedo is caught: one type catches the torpedo by the propeller, and the other type catehes the torpedo by its nose. In the nose eatching type, the mesh is generally of an interwoven grmmet design except a new type which' is secured at each intersection by a fixed clip and is disclosed in the co-pehding application of Alan E. Brickman, entitled Torpedo net and method of making the Same, Serial N0. 581,310, filed. March 6, 1945. In the propeller catehing type, the mesh is connected so as to s1ip ab the intersections. Regardless of the type Qf net, however, 113 may break due to the shock of the torpedo hitting it and therefore I propose to use a shock. absorbing connection in the net to protect it against breakage.
It is, th'erefore, an object of my invention to provide a torpeclo net structure having a shock absorbing seam incorporated therein.
This and other objects will be more apparent after referring to the following specification am]. attached. drawing, in Which:

Referring more particularly to the drawing, the reference numerals 2 and 4 indicate two sectiong cf mesh structure which are to be 0011- nected by the sh'ock absorbing connection 01 my invention. Between the two sections are located two substantiallv parallel wire structures 6 and 8 Which are fastened together by fixed connectors I0. Connecting the wire structure 8 and section 2 is a pair of wire structures I 2 and. I4 which are arranged in a ZigZag weave and fastened together by means of Slip connections I B. These connections are preferably of the type disclosed in the co-pending application of Alan E. Brickman, Serial N0. 581311 filed March 6, 1945, but other types of slip connections may be used. The wire structure I2 is fastened to the wire structure 8 by means of fixed connections I8 which are located. between connectors III. The wire structure I4 is connected t0 section 2 by means of connectors 20, fastened tpthe apices of the mesh structure. Section 4 and wire structure 6 are comnected in like manner by means of a, Slip jeint made of wire structures 22 and 24 arranged in a zigzag weave and fastened together by means of slip connections 2B, the wire 22 bing fas- 2 tened to wire 6 by means of a fixed connection 28, and the wire 24 being fastened to section 4 by connectors 30. When a torpedo hits the net, the wires 6 and 8 will separate as shown in dotted lines to take up the initial shock, and then the wires I2 and 22 Will s1ip with respect to wires M ancl 24, respectively, absorb more of the shock. If useclin a propeller catchin net, the clips fastening the mesh togeth'er will be slip clips, preierably 01 the -construction described in the above mentioned patent application. However, the Slip Clips I6 and 26 are designed to slipat. a lower pressure than the clips connecting the mesh so that When a torpedo hits the net the shock is first taken up in the manner described above, and finally the s1ip conneetiong of the mesh will slip, thus preventing breaking of the net.
In case of a nose catching type of net, the clips fastening the net together are of the non-slipping type preferably of the construction described in the pending application of Alan E. Brickman,
Serial N0. 563286 filed November 13 1944. The shock absorbing seam may be arranged horizontally, vertically, or at an angle therebetween. In some instances, only one slip seam need be used. When the shock absorbing seam is a horizontal seam, the wire 8 may be fastened directly to the head rope in the same manner as it; is fastened* to the wire 6.
While one embodiment of my invention has been shown and described, it will be apparent that other modifications and adaptations may be made without departing-from the scope of the following claims.
I claim:
1. A torpedo net structure or the like comprising at least two sections a pair of. stranded wire structures, slip connections fastening the two wire structures together, means for connecting one of said wire structures to one section, a stranded wire structure adjacent the other section, a plurality of c0nnectiong between th'e last namecl wire structure and the s800nd s@ction and means intermediate the last namecl connections for connecting the last named wire structure to the second of said pair of wire structures.
2. A torpedo net structure er the like comprising at least two sections, a pair of substantially parallel stranoled wire stru ctures between said sections, means for connecting said wire structures at spaced intervals, a slip seam between each wire structure ancl the adjacent section, each of saicl s1ip seams comprising two stranded wire structures arranged in a zigzag weave, s1ip eonneetions fastening the two wire structures of 3 each slip seam together, means for connectin one of said wire structures of each Slip seam 1:0 the adjacent section, and means intermedi&te the first connecting means for connecting the other 'of said wire structures 130 the adjacent one of the pair of wire structures.

A torpedo net structure er the like comprising a, pair of mesh' sections having s1ip conneetions, a, pair of stranded wirestructures, slip connections fastening the two wire structures together, the second named slip connections s1ip-- ping in a'dvance of the first said s 1ip connecw 'tions, means for connecting one of saia wire structures to one section, a stranded wire structure adjacent the other sec:tiona plurality of connections between the last named Wire structure and the second section, and means intermediate the last named connections for connecting the last named wire structure 130 the second of said pair of Wire structures.

A torpedo net structure or the like comprising'a pair of mesh sections having Slip connections, a pair of substantially parallel stranded wire structures between said sections, mea.n for connecting said wire structures at spaced interva1s, a s1ip seam between each wire structure al'ld the adjacent section, ea.ch of said s1ip seax ns comprising tWo stranded wire structures arranged in a zigzag weave, Slip connections fastenin the two wire structures of each slip seam together, the second named s1ip connection slippingin ad.- vance of the firsu named Slip connections, means for connecting one of said wire structures to the adj acent section, and mean int'erm ediate the second named cor'mecting means for connecting the other of said wire structures to the adjacent one of the pair of wire structures.
