1 Claim.

This invention relates to undergarments of the panty brief type.

Because of the increased participation of the female in industry and athletics, it is essential hancing the wearing of slacks or like garments.

Earlier constructions of this general type do not meet the conditions required in a garment to suit modern needs and, accordingly, it is an objeot of this invention to provide a garment of the character described which will conform to the body to retain the abdomen and buttocks in desirable form with a minimum of restriction to the freedom of movement.

Another object of this invention is the provision of a garment of the foregoing character which will provide support to the abdomen and the back of the wearer thereby aiding in relieving fatigue.

A further object of this invention is the provision of a garment of the above type which may be readily positioned on the body of the wearer and which includes in its structure a crotch member resiliently stretchable both longitudinally and trangversely, thereby adding comfort to the garmen A still further object of this invention is the provision, in a garment of the foregoing type. of means engageable with the crotch member for permitting adjustment of the same to the body, the said crotch member being capable of supporting a catamenial napkin or the like.

These and other features and advanta es of my invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same:

Fig. 1 is a front perspective view of a garment made in accordance with the invention, as it appears on the body of a wearer.

Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view of the garment shown in Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a front perspective view showing the crotch member of the garment in disengaged position.

Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 5 is a plan view of the garment in extended condition.

Fig. 6 is a perspective view showing, in dotted lines, the garment as it would appear on the body when worn under slacks or the like.

Referring to the drawings wherein is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the garment comprises side sections Ill and H, front and back sections generally indicated at i2 and II respectively, and a crotch member II.

The back section II is formed of non-stretchable material and comprises a center back section i3 and two side back sections I la. Thecenter back section is provided with a plurality of longitudinally extending reinforcing stays l6 disposed in suitable pockets Ilia.- The back section I! extends higher thanthe front section l2, thereby providing desirable support to the back and aiding in relieving fatigue of the wearer who may be required to remain in a standing position for relatively long periods of time. A substantially triangular portion I8 is cut out of the lower part of the center back section l3 to accommodate a complementary portion of the crotch member ll, hereinafter to be described. The side sections l0 and ii joined to the side back sections Ha by lines of stitching are formed of material stretchable preferably in a direction circumferentially of the body.

The front section l2 comprises a front panel 20 and two side front panels 2| and 22, the panel 2| being joined to the side section Ill and to the front panel 20. The panel 22 is joined to the section II and carries on its edge 24, a plurality of fastening elements 26 intended for engagement with a series of cooperating elements 21 carried on the edge 29 of the front panel 20. The panel 20 is provided with a plurality of reinforcing stays 3I extending longitudinally and retained in suitable pockets 3! a. As will be seen by referring to Fig. 6, the front section l2 extends above the waistline of the wearer, thereby providing desirable support to the abdominal organs and aiding in relieving fatigue.

Thecrotch member I! is formed of resilient material, stretchable longitudinally and to a lesser degree transversely, and comprises an inverted substantially V shaped panel 33 and a flap portion 34. The panel '33 is stitched to the center back section l3 and to the flap portion 34 which is provided on'its terminal edge 36 with a plurality of buttonholes 31 engageable with buttons 39 secured on the lower edge of the front panel 20. Depending from said panel is an extension member 4! intended to serve as a means for carrying the buttons 39 should repositioning of the same be required to accommodate the garment to the wearer.

It is to be understood that the form of my invention, herewith shown and described, is to domen and back of the wearer, said back section extending higher than the front section and above the waistline of the wearer and having an inverted V-shaped cutout in the bottom edge thereof, a crotch member stretchable longitudinally and having an end portion complementary to the edges of said inverted V-shaped cutout and secured thereto, the free end of said crotch member being disengageably securable to the lower edge of said front section, said crotch memher when said garment is arranged on the body of the wearer acting to converge said inelastic back section adjacent the cutout thereby molding the figure of the wearer to a desired form.
