Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN L. DELANY, or TYLER, TEXAS.
CLOTH ES-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 239,465, dated March. 29, 1881. Application filed February 7, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN L. DELANY,'of Tyler, in the county of Smith, andin the State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Hooks; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in clothes-hooks; and it has for its objects to provide such hooks with an elastic button at its extremities that will retain the garment or other article without permitting it to slip off readily, and which can be cheaply constructed and readily applied. These objects I attain by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved book; and Figs. 2 and 3 similar views, showing modifications thereof.
The letterAindieates the hook, which is constructed of cast metal, in the usual manner. B indicates the screw secured thereto or passing through it, by means of which it may be secured to a wall or other support. The ends of the hook are left plain, as indicated by the letter O, for the reception of" the buttons D, which are made of vulcanized rubber or other elastic material, and are sprung upon the ends of the hooks, being held thereon by the clasticity of the rubber.
It will be seen, as thus constructed, that we button, being constructed of elastic material, will tend to hold the garment better than the smooth inelastic buttons heretofore employed. Moreover, they maybe made at much less expense than usual, as they require no screwthreads to secure them.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As an improved article of manufacture, a clothes-hook provided with buttons D, of rubher or other elastic material at.- its extremities, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 27th day of January, 1881,.
JOHN L. DELANY.
