(ci. 19V-180) 8 Claims.
This' invention relates generally to accessory devices for typewriters and is directedmoreparticularly to a device for facilitating the making of corrections on a typed page. v
A principal object of the present invention is to provide a device which may be ymounted upon a typewriter as an accessory, bymeans o f which the making 'of corrections cna' typedpage may be easily and quickly accomplished without the usual operation of erasing and retyping the incorrectly typed letter.
a device of the vcharacter stated, carrying a rollv of paper ribbon having an adhesive upon one surface thereof, together with means for moistening and cutting off a section of such paper ribbon and applying the cut-od piece to the typed sheet over the incorrectly typed letter.
The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a. part of the present invention, it being understood, however,l thatthe invention is notconned to a strict conformity with the showing of the drawings but may be changed or modified so long as such. changes or modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention showing the relation of the parts when the device is idle.
Figure 2 is a view corresponding to Figure 1 but showing the relation to parts when the device ings the device of the present inventionis illustrated as mounted upon the front of a typewriter, not shown, by means of a bracket I0, se4 l it will be readily apparent that it may 'beusefl` by being held in the hand, in which case the mounting or supportingbracket might be lappropriately formed for graspingv bythe hand.
The mounting bracket III issecured to the front part of the typewriter machine so that the guide I3 which is carried upon the topofthe` bracket, will be directed toward the platenroll II at the left hand side of the point vk(inthe platen roll which is struck by a type key. The reason for this mounting `will become readily apparent as the description of the invention proceeds- Extending through and slidably supportedfin:v
the guidev I6 is a reciprocable presser bar I4,;the forward endefa'ce.y of which is slightly curved to substantiallyy conform 4to, the curvature of the platen roll, as indicatedat I5. Upon the outer endofthis bar I4, or that end remote from the platen roll II, is the upstanding guide I6 which terminates in a forwardly inclined finger portion I'I and this upstanding portion I6 of the presserv bar is formed to provide a vertical guide or slot I8 through which slidably extends the paper vribbon shifter or plunger I9.
At its outer end this plunger I9 carries.v the head or button 2U whilenat its inner end it carries a'friction finger 2| which may be in the form y of a rubber tip.
is advanced for the application of a portion of n Adjacent the forward end of thev plunger I9,
the plunger has formed therethrough'` theLlongitudinally extending slot 22 through each end'of which is extendeda stop pin or screw 23 Awhich is adjustable as to` its positionin the slot so that the space between the two stop pins may be increased or decreased inlength' within certain limits. Y v
AheadV ofthe guide I3, the presser barcarries the `plunger supportingl post 24 andat the upper end of this post there is mounted thetransversely extending pin 25 which passes through the slot 22 of the plunger as illustrated. Thispin 25 is suitably supported so thatthe forward end of the plunger may be oscillated ,or vrocked vthereon to raise and lower the friction tip,2| "andthe plunger is'also designed tol move forwardly and Behind`A the rearwardly upon the pin 25 as will be readily ythere'is'mountedt apaper ribbon guide support` ing bracket 25; the forward movement of which upon the presser bar is limited by the set screw 21 which is carried by the presser bar.
The bracket 25 supports the paperribbon guide Y 2B which has a substantiallyv horizontal portion 29 which merges at its forward end inl-the downdirectly. Also, it will be seen that this will bring the gummed surface in a proper position to be fpressed against the moistening wick 40 when the extended portion of the ribbon is pressed toward the platen roll and the paper lying thereover, by the plunger bar.
Secured tothe rmouth 39 of thev water recept'acle upon the side of the wick 4I) remote from the presser bar, is an upstanding Spring tongue 4I; 'which normally holds the wick'in the proper position to have the extended end portion of the paper ribbon pressed thereagainst, but which is su-iiiciently light in weight to be readily bent or `flexed over whenithe plunger bar is pushed turned portion 30, the outletior mouthofwhichv 'I'h'eferear Vpart of the portion A29- o' the paper ribbon guidelcarries a"paper`ribbon roll yholder f 32 Yupon;Y which the `riltfbonroll;`r designated 33j,` is Y imbuntedr'k 'Ihe endofj theribbon' is ,then threaded forwardly Athrougrlf'r'the guicleefl'` sosthatV when an" advance movementis imparted' to the end of the ribborr` allportion thereofl will be extended down wardly froml the outlet of Vthe guide to. position before-the forwardlendoftheloar:
