Heel Restorer. w
No. 238,946. Patented March 15,188l.
NJETERS, PHOTO-UTHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID F. MGKITRIOK, OF MARYSVILLE, OHIO.
HEEL-RESTORER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 238,946, dated March 15, 1881.
Application filed September 10, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID F. MGKITRIOK, of Marysville,in the county of Union and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heel-Restorers; and I do hereby declare that thefollowin g is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form partof this specification, in which- Figure l is a sectional view of my device applied to a shoe-heel, and Fig. 2 a perspective view of the device itself.
This invention relates to an improved heelrestorer, or a device by means of which the heel of a boot or shoe may be readily and conveniently brought to its proper level after having been run down or worn off at one side; and it has for its object to provide a device that may be applied to the heel by a person of ordinary skill, and thus save the expense and trouble of sending the boot or shoe to a shoemaker to have the heel restored to proper shape. These objects I attain by the device illustrated in the before-mentioned drawings,
in which- The letter A indicates my improved heel restorer, which is preferably constructed of cast metal, although it may be made of sheet metal struck or stamped up to proper form by means of suitable dies, or of any other material which is sufficiently durable and which can be conveniently and cheaply brought to the proper shape. The said device or restorer is formed with a bottom plate, a, which is adapted to set or fit under the worn portion of the heel of a boot or shoe, and is provided with an upward-curved flange, which is adapted to conform to the outer face of the side and rear of the heel where run or worn down, so as to form, apparently, a continuation of the unworn portion of such side and rear portion of the heel, and remedy the disfigurement oi the outer face of the heel when the device is applied thereto. The bottom plate, a, is pro vided with one or more ribs, c, which are beveled from their outer ends inwardly, and which serve to form a substantial support for the inclined worn lower face of the heel.
It will be seen that as thus constructed the device maybe applied to the heel ofa boot or shoe that has been Worn or run down, so as to give the same substantially its original shape, and that the device may be applied by almost any person, as it is made to conform to the shape of the heel both on the bottom and outer face, and has only to be placed upon the heel and properly secured thereto by means of screws or other fastening devices, which may be inserted through apertures formed in the bottom plate for the purpose, the ribs forming an inclined support upon which the worn face of the heel rests, such portion always beingworn off in an angular or beveled direction.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A heel-restorer for boots and shoes, constructed with a base-plate provided with an upward flange adapted to conform to the outer edge of the heel, and provided with inclined ribs adapted to set between the base-plate and inclined worn portion of the heel, the said ribs forming a seat for such worn portion, and the upward flange an apparentcontinuation of the unworn side or outer face of the heel, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I herewith affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DAVID F. MGKITRIOK. Witnesses:
