' 1 Claim. (01. 2-69) This invention relates to a garment and/or device which may be variously used but is particularly adapted for use in bathing. Where people frequent a bathing beach it is desirable to carry a towel or have one at hand, it is often desirable to have a sheet of fabric material which can be spread upon the sand to recline upon, it is desirable at times to have a cushion tosit upon and it is also very desirable to have a receptacle in which bathing shoes, bathing cap or other articles used can be placed. It is often desirable to have a robe which can be thrown about the body in going to and from the beach.

It is an object of this invention to provide a simple. eflicient and convenient device which can be used as a robe and which can be made out of toweling material to form a towel, the same also 'being constructed and arranged to form a revide a device comprising a sheet preferablyformed of toweling which can be spread upon the ground or sand to recline upon and which can be folded into small and compact form to form a receptacle or cushion. I

It is also an object of the invention to provide a device in the form of a sheet, said sheet having secured thereto at one side connectable fastening means arranged in a line enclosing an area, said sheet being foldable inwardly upon the opposite side to lie within said area and then being foldable upon a median line of said area to bring said fastening means into adjacent parallel relation whereby they may be connected to form a closed receptacle-like body, which may contain articles such as bathing cap and shoes and which may also be used as a cushion.

It is more specifically an object of the invention to provide a device comprising a sheet preferably of rectangular form having secured to one side thereof rows of hookless fasteners arranged in the form of a rectangle, a closure member for said fastener normally disposed at the center of one side of said rectangle when said sheet is in open form, said sheet being foldable inwardly at its opposite side to lie within the area of said rectangle and then being foldable along a transverse median line of said rectangle to bring said rows of fasteners into adjacent parallel relation whereby said closure member may be moved along the same so that a pillow-like body is formed closed along three sides bysaid fasteners and havin an area which is preferably such that the area A invention will be fully set forth in the following description made in connection with the accompanying drawings in which like reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views and in which:

any suitable fabric material in practice it has been I found suitable to make it of rather heavy fabric material such as toweling or chenille. While sheet 20 might have various forms, in the embodiment of. the invention illustrated it is shown as of rectangular form. A plurality of loops 2| are secured to sheet 20 arranged in a line adjacent and parallel to one long side thereof and a cord 22 passes through said loops. Cord 22 in practice has been made of rather heavy soft cord and the same is provided at its ends with tassels 22a. For convenience of illustration the area of sheet 20 is shown divided into small square zones 23 by the dot and dash lines 24. There are no divisions on the actual sheet of material. on the side opposite that to which loops 2| and cord 22 are disposed said sheet has secured thereto fastening means 25.

. While these fastening means might take various forms, in the embodiment of the invention illustrated and in practice the well'known hooklcs'sv closure member 25 and while this could be variously formed, in the embodiment of the invention illustrated it is shown as made of a looped cord, the ends of which is attached to a tassel 21a.

The sheet can be folded at the side opposite the fastening means so that it will lie within the area of the rectangle formed by fastening means 25 and this folding is preferably done by folding the sheet in a plurality of successive folds. The sheet will first be folded by folding inwardly the end portions as seen in Fig. l along the outer transverse lines 24. This brings the sheet to the form shownin Fig. 2. The sheet as seen in Fig. 2 will then be folded by folding its lower portion upwardly and inwardly along the lower-longitudinal line 24. This brings the sheet to the condition shown in Fig. 4. The sheet as seen in Fig. 4 will then be folded inwardly along the outer transverse lines 24 and the sheet will be brought to the condition shown in Fig. 6. The

- arrangement of the overlying folds can be seen in the sections shown in Figs. 3, 5, '1 and 8. The device as shown in Fig. 6 will be again folded upwardly and inwardlyalong the transverse median line and will be brought to the position shown" in Fig. 9. It will be seen that at this point the sheet 20 has been folded in successive folds to bring the same into the area of the rectangle formed by the fastening means 25 and the sheet and the folds thereof are disposed at'the side opposite that to which fastening means 25 are secured. The sheet will now be again folded along the transverse median line as seen in Fig. 9 and as indicated in Fig. 12. The device is thus now in small and compact shape and it is no trouble to carry' the same.

The device aashown in Fig. 1 can be used-as a robe. The wearer can dispose the same about his neck and shoulders with the edge adjacent cord 22 at the top and the sheet can be gathered about the neck and shoulders by drawing upon the ends of said cord. The cord can'be tied if desired and a convenient cape or robe is thus formed. The sheet can be spread upon the beach orsand andusedtoreclineuponifdesired. It will be seen that the device as shownin Fig. 14 forms cushion. The device can be made and sold at very moderate price." The same has been amply demonstrated in actual practice and found'to be very successful and efllcient.

It will, of course. be understood that various changes may be made in the form, details. arrangement and proportions of the parts, without departing from the scop f wpiicants invention, which generally stated, consists in a device capable of carrying out the objects, above set forth, in the parts and combination of parts disclosed and defined in the appended claim.

What is claimed is:

A combination robe, receptacle, and/or cushion comprising a rectanglflar sheet of toweling material having on one side thereof rows of fastening means arranged in the form of a rectangle, one long side of said rectangle extending parallel to and closely adjacent one long edge of said sheet and disposed centrally of said long edge, the area of said sheet comprising a multiple of one half of the area of said rectangle so that said sheet may be folded inwardly from its short ends along lines parallel to said ends and folded inwardly from the long side opposite said rectangle then folded inwardly again from its ends to form a rectangle, then folded along a median line to bring the same within the area of said rectangle and then folded along its median line to bring the fasteners atopposite sides of said rectangle into adjacent relation so that they may be connected to form a rectangular cushion-like body formed of equal sup rposed folds and a handle means by which said body may be carried, said body means being also capable of being used can receptacle.
