4 Claims.
This invention relates to av sphygmomanometer cuff or band, and; has'` for theprimary object the provisionof a deviceof thischaracter which may be easily and" quickly applied and removed from a-limb'of a person and easily adjusted to fit limbs of different sizes and-isso constructed as to permit the ination pouch' of the sphygmomanometer to be inspectedl or' to-be removed for repair or to be substituted by 4another pouch should needV occur therefor. I'
With these and other objects in view as Will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention'consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and'arrange- .ment of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
, For a complete 'understanding of my invention, refe-rence is toA be had` to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation illustrating a cuff or band constructed in accordance with my invention and showing the same applied to a limb of a person.
Figure 2 is a plan view, partly in section, showc ing the cuff or band prior to being applied.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3--3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a sectional View 4--4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a sectional View taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 2.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral 5 indicates as an entirety the band or cuff, primarily consisting of elongated fabric layers taken on the line 6 and I arranged in superimposed relation. The y layer 6 are greater than width and length of the the Width and length of the layer I and the longitudinal edges of the layer E are folded upon themselves and over the longitudinal edges of the layer 1, as clearly shown in Figure 5. The folded portions indicated by the character 8 of the layer 6 act as reinforcements for the cuff or band and are stitched to the layer 1, as shown at 9, I0, II, I2 and I3.
By referring to Figure 2 it will be seen that the stitching 9 extends longitudinally of the cuff or band while the stitching I0 extends transversely of the band or cuff for a limited distance. The stitching II extends between the stitches I0. Eyelets I4 are secured in the outer layers of the folded portions 8 of the fabric layer 6 between the stitching Ill and 9. The opposing edges of the folded portions 8 where the eyelets are located are left free for the insertion of ends of an anchoring bar I5 into oppositely arranged eyelets I4. -The anchoring bar. is secured to one end of the cuff or band by a hem I6, the width of which is less thanvthe overal-l width of the cui or band, as clearly shown in Figure 2, so that the end portions of the anchoring rod may be easily inserted into and removed from opposite eyelets I4.
The stitching I3 is'arrangedin a substantially rectangular shaped pattern and is interrupted at one end of the cup or band to form a mouth to a compartment I1 formed between the layers 6 and 'I by said stitching I3. The layers` 6 and 1 are also stitched transversely, as shown at I8. The purpose of the compartment I1 is-to receive an inflatable pouch I9 of a sphygmomanometer of a conventional construction (not shown). The inflatable pouch I9 hasthe usual tubes 20 and 2-I connected thereto. One of the folded portions of the layer 1 is arranged to provide passages for .the tubes 20, andv 2l to extend through.
One end of the layer 6 is folded over and stitched, to form a hem 22i throughwhich extends an elongated rigid loop shaped member 23 equipped with a finger piece 24.
A closure flap 25 is provided for the mouth of the compartment I1 and is secured to the inner face of either the layer B or 'I and is adapted to have its free end tucked into the compartment after the insertion of the inflatable pouch to close the mouth, and to prevent the pouch from bulging out of the compartment by way of the mouth when under inflation.
To apply the cuff or band to a limb of a person as shown in Figure 1, the end of the cuit or band carrying the anchoring rod I5 is passed through the loop-shaped member 23 in such manner as to arrange the eyelets I4 outermost. By grasping the finger piece 24 in one hand and pulling upon the end of the band or cuff carrying the anchoring rod, said band or cuff may be drawn as tightly as desired about the limb. The ends of the anchoring rod I5 are then passed through opposite eyelets firmly securing the band or cuir in applied position. The pouch is then inated as usual to stop the ow of the blood through arteries of the limb. This means of applying and securing the cuff or band in position on the limb will permit the cuff or band to be easily and quickly adjusted to a desired tautness on limbs of different sizes. As soon as the ends of the anchoring rod are removed from the eyelets, sufficient slack may be brought into the cuff or band so that it may be slipped off of the limb without passing the anchoring rod through the loop shaped member 23. However, when the anchoring rod is freed as speciiied, it can be easily passed that minor changes in construction, combination4 and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In a sphygmomanometer cuff, an elongated exible double Wall strip having a compartment in a portion thereof to receive an inflatable pouch, a loop shaped member at one end of said strip to permit the other end thereof to pass therethrough for Wrapping the strip about a persons limb, eyelets arranged on the strip, and
an anchoring rod secured to the last-named end of the strip for insertion in the eyelets for anchoring said strip in wrapped position about the limb.
2. In a sphygmomanometer cuff, an elongated double wall fabric strip having a compartment in a portion thereof, said compartment provided with a mouth to permit placing in the compartment an inflatable pouch, a closure ap for the mouth, a loop shaped member secured to one end of said strip to permit the other end thereof to be passed therethrough for wrapping the strip about a persons limb, an anchoring rod secured to the other end of the strip, and eyelets arranged on the strip adjacent the edges thereof and in opposed relation to each other for receiving the anchoring rod for adjustably securing the strip in a Wrapped position on the limb.
3. In a sphygmomanometer culi, an elongated double wall fabric strip having a compartment in a portion thereof, -said compartment provided with a mouth to permit placing in the compartment an inatable pouch, a closure ilap for the mouth, a loop shaped member secured to one end of said strip to permit the other end thereof to be passed therethrough for wrapping the strip about a persons limb, an anchoring rod secured to the other end of the strip, eyelets arranged on the strip adjacent the edges thereof and in opposed relation to each other for receiving the anchoring rod for adjustably securing the strip in a wrapped position on the limb, and a finger piece carried by the loop shaped member.
4. In a sphygmomanometer cuir, an elongated double wall strip composedof layers of fabric arranged in superimposed relation and stitched together havingv edges of one layer folded upon itself and over edges of the other layer for reinforcing the strip throughout its length, eyelets secured in the folded portions of one of the layers of the strip, stitching securing the layers of fabric on the strip together to form a compartment having a mouth, a closure ilap for the mouth, said compartment adapted to receive an inflatable pouch having tubes, one of the folded portions of one of the layers having openingsv to permit the tubes to extend therethrough, a loop shaped member secured to one end of the Vstrip and prov'ided with a nger piece, and an anchoring bar secured to the other end of the strip and adapted to be passedthroughv the loop'and inserted in the eyelets for adjustably securing the strip in wrapped form about a limb of a person.
