(01. 15-231) This invention relates broadly to hand implements and more particularly to a device to facilitate cleaning, waxing and polishing floors; an object, intent, and purpose of the invention being to provide a devise whereby, with little effort on the part of the user, floors and similar surfaces may be readily washed clean, wax then applied thereto, and the wax then rubbed into the surface to give the same a high polish or lustre.

The invention together with its objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:

Referring more in detail to the drawings it will be seen that in the preferred embodiment thereof the device embodies a head assembly 5 which in the present instance includes a combination weight and body member 6 of slightly less dimensions than a pan 1 into which the body member 6 fits.

Further the head assembly includes a polishing cloth 8 that is of greater dimensions than the body or weight member 6 and is adapted to be applied against one broad face of the member 6.

The cloth 8 has apertured marginal edge portions 9 and Ill that are foldable over the marginal edge portions of the combination body and weight member 6, and are equipped with apertures II to engage headed studs l2 rising from the top surface of the body or weight member 6 for securing the polishing cloth 8 in proper position on the body or weight member 6.

With the cloth 8 applied to the weight or body member 6, the latter is accommodated within the aforementioned pan 1.

The exterior of the pan 1 is covered through the medium of a Waxing cloth or sheet I3 that in its contour is similar to the polishing cloth 8 and is provided with marginal edge portions 14 and I5 that are extended over the wall of the pan 1 and are provided with apertures iii to engage the studs l2 to secure the cloth I3 in proper enveloping position relative to the Dan l and the pan 1 and parts 6, 8, and [3 in assembled condition.

Finally the head embodies a washing cloth or sheet I! that is of slightly greater dimensions than the sheet l3 and is provided with marginal edge portions l8 and,|9 that are folded into overlapping relation with the marginal edge portions l4 and I5 of the sheet l3 and are equipped with apertures 20 to engage the studs l2 for securing the cloth ll in proper position.

On the working surface thereof the cloth I! is provided, as best shown in Figure 4 with aseries, in the present instance three, ribs 2| elongated longitudinally of the cloth I! and which may be formed of the same material as that from which the cloth I! is formed.

The ribs I8 are of hollow tubular construction and have therein fillers 22 of cotton lint or other suitable material.

To facilitate use of the device, and to permit use thereof without requiring the user to work on his hands and knees, there is provided a handle 22,

The handle 22 is pivotally connected to the body or weight member 6 of the head through the medium of a fork 23, the stem 24 of which is in the form of a socket into which one end of the handle 22 is fitted.

The legs of the fork 23 are pivoted as at 25 to angular lugs 26 riveted or otherwise secured to the body or weight member 6.

In actual practice the pan 1 acts as a protector for the cloth 8 to maintain the same clean and against being dampened when the device is used for applying water or other cleaning fluid to the floor in preparing the surface for the waxing and polishing thereof.

Also the cloth iii, in addition to serving as a means for retaining the pan 1 in proper position on the head, may, when desired, be used for removing the pan 1, for applying the wax to the floor, particularly after the washing of the floor and it is desired to use a damp cloth in applying the wax to the floor.

The ribs 22 on the cloth l1 serve to retain the water of a cleaning fluid being used, acting somewhat in the nature of a sponge so that by pressing on the head the water or other cleaning fluid retained thereby may be forced therefrom over the floor surface. Consequently the water is spread over the surface somewhat automatically with the use of this device thus facilitating the cleaning of the surface.

It will be understood that after the floor or other surface has been thus washed, the cloth I! is removed. Wax may then be applied to the cloth l3, and with the use of the device the wax then transferred to the floor surface. After the application of the wax to the surface has been completed, cloth l3 and pan '1 are removed, thus exposing the polishing cloth 8, which is then brought into use for polishing or bringing to a high lustre the floor surface.

It is thought that the advantages of a floortreating or cleaning implement of this character will be readily appreciated by those skilled in the art, and without further detailed description.

While I have herein illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is,

to he understood that I claim all such forms of the invention to which I am entitled in view of the prior art and scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:

1. A floor polishing device comprising a rigid plate of rectangular shape, a handle pivotally connected with the upper face of the plate, a polishing sheet extending over the lower face of the plate and over the side and end edges thereof, means for detachably connecting edge portions of the sheet to the top face of the plate adjacent the edges thereof, a pan snugly receiving the plate with the polishing sheet thereon for protecting the sheetagainst moisture and foreign matter, and a Waxing sheet for covering the pan extending over the side edges and end edges of the pan and having its edge portions connected with the edge portions of the upper face of the plate by the same means which detachably connect the first sheet with the plate, the second sheet serving to hold the pan in position covering the first sheet and also for receiving wax for applying wax to a. surface.

2. A floor polishing device comprising a rigid plate of rectangular shape, a handle pivotally connected with the upper face of the plate, a polishing sheet extending over the lower face of the plate and over the side and end edges thereof, means for detachably connecting edge portions of the sheet to the top face of the plate adjacent the edges thereof, a pan snugly receiving the plate with the polishing sheet thereon for protecting the sheet against moisture and foreign matter, and a waxing sheet for covering the pan extending over the side edges and end edges of the pan and having its edge portions connected with the edge portions of the upper face of the plate by the same means which detachably connect the first sheet with the plate, the second sheet serving to hold the pan in position covering the first sheet and also for receiving. wax for applying wax to asuriace, and a third sheet passing over the second sheet with its edge portions connected with the edge portions of the plate by the same means which hold the other sheets in position, the third sheet being adapted to receive cleansing means and each sheet having a recess in each corner for facilitating folding the end and side edges of the sheet over the pan and plate without creasing the lower face of a sheet.
