2 Claims.
This invention relates to an improvement in display container.
More particularly this invention relates to a container formed from paper and which is adapted to serve to contain articles, such as stockings, gloves, or the like, for their display to prospective customers and, at the vsame time, adapted, without removal or readjustment of the articles, to provide a package for their convenient transportation when purchased. l in display position.'
Generally speaking, the display container ac- In the several gures a indicates thebody of a @Ording tothis invention will` be formed from sheet 0f paper, the Opposite Side portions b, b of paper of desired suitable type and Weight by foldt Which are folded inwardly. The folded side poring to provide means for theretention of articles tiOnS b, b are Secured t0 the Sheet a, aS, fOr eX.- to be displayed and to enable open display of the l5 ample, by gluing 0r pasting. adjacent t0 the ends articles or their enclosure for transportation. 0f the Sheet as indCated at C, C, and, again, are Further, the container will be arranged to pro- Y Secured et the middle 0f the sheet and 0n Oppovide locking means for retaining it in position Site SdeS 0f the Center fOldline d, d, as indifor the display of contained articles and also fory Gated at e, ethe enclosure of contained articles. Further, The fOlded edgeS l?, b betWeen the pasted` areas means are provided for conveniently carrying it C, C* and d, d ferm er pair 0f Oppositely Opening when in Closed position, pockets or recesses f, f on opposite sides of the The display container according to this invenfOld line d, d fOr the reCeptOn 0f the edge p0rtion will be of great advantage, for example, in tiOnS Of tWO pairs 0f hOSiery y, y, folded in the connection with the merchandising of hosiery in usual manner connection with which it has been found desir- Adjacent its ends the sheet a is desirably reable to induce the sale of a plurality of pairs of nfOICed by the aDplCttiOn `0f reinfOrCing hose in a single transaction. Thus, the container Patches h, h, WhCh may be 0f heavy paper. febaccording to this invention is adapted to contain lC, 01 the like. and Whieh may be Secured to a plurality of pairs of hose, may be readily ar- Se the sheet a in any suitable manner, as by pasting ranged for their Open ,display in an attractive or gluing. Adjacent to the ends of the sheet and manner and may, with equal readiness, be arin the reinforced area are formed apertures i, i, ranged as a Complete enclosure for the ready which Will align when the sheet is folded on the transportation of the enclosed hose, all Without fold une d dnecessity for handling or disturbing the hose. Atfme end the Sheet is extended t0 form a As will be obvious, the display container acap 7 Which is sul? as at 7C, k t0 form a tongue l, cording to this invention may be utilized for the Which, When the apertures i, i, are brOught intO display and transportation of various articles, alignment and the flap S fOlded 0n the line m, m, other than hose, as handkerchiefs, gloves, etc. will align With the apertures and may be paSSed Having now indicated in a general way the therethrough to lock the structure with the connetilre and purpOSe 0f this inVentiOn, I Will prO- tained hosiery in a closed position, or in posiceed to a detailed description thereof with reftion for display- @Tence t0 the accompanying drawings by Whh The tongue l may be of a Width'greater thanY a preferred embodiment 1s 1llustrated and 1n y; the Width of the apertures i, i) as shown, to the Whlh: t end that when flexed through the aperture it will Flgute l 1s a .plain VIEW of a display .Cqntamer resist return, or it may be made of a width equal gilssrciniots ilisdlirslgnon and contammg two t0 01 less than the length of the apertures, as
Figure 2 is a sectional View on line 2 2, Figmay be desltecl' Agam the tongue may be ure 1. Y formed by slitting from the edge of the flap,
Figure 3 is a plan View of the subject of Fig as shown, or by slitting entirely within the body ure 1, partially closed for enclosure of the hose. 0f the ap- Figure 4 `is a view of the subject 0f- Figure 3 AS will 110W, it is believed, be Obvious, pairs completely closed and locked in closed position 0f fOlded hOSierY y, y engaged in the pOCketS for transportation.
r of Figure 6, illustrative ofthe means for locking the device in position for display.
Figure 8 is an end view of the device locked or recesses f, .f may be displayed on a store counter, or other point, by suitable arrangement of the sheet a.
Thus, pairs of folded hosiery g, g having been engaged in the pockets or recesses f, f, the sheet is folded back on the line d, d, with the hosiery facing outward and the end portions of the sheet are folded back on the lines n, n. The folding described will be clear from an inspection of Figure 6. The folded end portions of the sheet Will be brought into overlying relationship and the flap y will be folded to bringthe locking tongue Z in alignment With the aligned apertures z', i, as shown in Figure 7. The locking tongue Will then be passed through the aligning apertures i, i to' lock the end portions of the sheet together and form a base upon which the device will stand when placed upon a counter or the like, as shown in Figure 8. Y
From an inspection of Figure 8, it will b e api parent that when the device is set upon a counter, or the like, the contained hosiery Will be effectively displayed.
When a sale has been made it is `only necessary to pass the locking tongue Z back through the aligning apertures z', fold the sheet on the line d, d to enclose the hosiery and bring the apertures i, z' in the end portions of the sheet into alignment, as shown in Figure 3, the end portions of the sheet having been straightened out into the plane of the sheet, then to fold down the flap, as shown in Figure 4, and pass the locking tongue Z through the aligned openings i, as shown in Figure 5.
When the device has been closed and locked by means of the tongue l, as described, it will effectively enclose the hosiery for transportation and may, as will be obvious, be readily transported 0r carried by passing the iingersthrough the aligning openings z.
When the container is closed the aligning apertures will afford passage for the fingers and enable the container to be conveniently carried.
It will be appreciated that Various modification may be made in the embodiment of this invention as described above Without departing from the scope of this invention.
What I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A display container comprising a sheet adapted to be folded over on a line intermediate its ends, pockets extending along the side edges of the sheet, extensions from the opposite ends of the sheet adapted to be folded on their lines of juncture with the sheet, said extensions being provided with apertures so positioned that When the sheet is folded on a line intermediate its ends they will align when the extensions are brought together in their normal extension and when folded on their lines of juncture With the sheet,
a flap formed by an extension from the end of one of said first mentioned extensions and a tongue formed by slitting said flap, said tongue beingpositioned with respect to the apertures in said rst mentioned extensions so that it may be passed through said apertures when they are brought into alignment.
2. A display container comprising a sheet adapted to be folded over on a line intermediate its ends, pockets formed by folding over the edge portions of the sheet and securing to the body, extensions from the opposite ends of the sheet adapted to be folded on their lines of juncture With the sheet, said extensions being provided with apertures so positioned that when the sheet is folded on a line intermediate its ends they will align when the extensions are brought together in their normal extension and when folded on their lines of juncture with the sheet, a flap formed by an extension from the end of one of said first mentioned extensions and a tongue of greater Width than the apertures formed by slitting said flap from its free end, said tongue being positioned with respect to the apertures in said first mentioned extensions so that it may be passed through said apertures when they are brought into alignment.
