Description

Feb. 10, 1942. F, HER I ER 2,272,606
ELECTRON TUBE MOUNTING Filed Feb. 5, 1940 IN VENTOR Patented Feb. 10, 1 942 7 2,272,606 ELECTRON TUBE MOUNTING Felix Herriger, Berlin, Germany, assignor to C. Lorenz Aktiengesellschaft, Berlin-Tempelhof, Germany, a company of Germany Application February 3, 1940, Serial No. 317,138 In Germany January 25, 1939 1 Claim.
It is well known to provide the base of electron tubes with a so-called key, that is, a means to ensure that the contacts or plug pins of such tubes shall be engaged by the proper contact springs of a holder or socket. Such a key, however, is not easy to apply to a glass base as employed with electron tubes of the kind having their contacts and leading-in wires directly joined together.
According to the present invention the bulb of electron tubes is equipped with a circumferential body. adapted to engage with the holder. Such engagement, however, is possible only if the tube and holder are in a determinate position with respect to each other, this being the position in which the tube contacts are engaged by the proper contact springs of the holder.
The invention will be understood from the following description, reference being hadto the accompanying drawing in which Fig. l is a partially sectioned fragmentary view showing one embodiment of the invention, while Fig. 2 is a plan view of this arrangement.
The electron tube here illustrated by way of example comprises a glass bulb I, a pressed glass base 2, and a glass ring 3 by which these two are sealed together. Base 2 carries leading-in wires 4 fastened therein by means of plug pins 5, these being the contacts of the tube. The ring 3 has notches 6 adapted for engagement with projections or noses I of a suitable holder or socket 8, of which only so much is shown as is necessary for understanding the invention. As will appear from Fig. 2, the notches 6 and noses I are so located as to prevent the tube l, 2, 3 from being inserted in the holder 8 whenever the two are not in the proper mutual position.
What is claimed is:
An electron tube comprising a glass bulb, a base for said bulb, a glass ring encircling said bulb and fixed thereto, and a socket for supporting said tube, at least one notch in said ring for engaging a corresponding guiding projection of said socket, said bulb and said base being sealed together by said glass ring.
