towelling having snap fastener elements along its edges to secure the lining to a canvas or like base layer having co-acting snap fastener elements secured thereto, the snap fasteners permitting the lining to be easily detached from the base layer for cleaning.

A further object is to provide a device of this character which will not be formed of a few strong, simple and durable parts, which will be inexpensive to manufacture, and which will not easily get out of order.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim withoutdeparting from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a beach blanket construction in accordance with the invention.

Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the blanket taken on the line 22 of Figure 1.

Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts in the various views, I0 designates a base layer of canvas or similar material. One end of the base layer is folded back upon itself as shown at I I and stitched longitudinally at its center and ends as shown at I2 to form two pockets I3 and I4. The free ends I5 and I6 of the pockets are secured to the base layer by sliding or zipper fasteners I1 and I8 which afiord access to the pockets.

The base layer III is provided at spaced intervals along its edges with snap fastener elements I9. A lining 20 of turkish towelling, or similar material, of less length and width than the base layer is superposed on the base layer. The lining is provided near its longitudinal and transverse edges with companion socket elements which coact with the socket elements of the base layer to detachably secure the lining to the base layer. When the lining is of less dimension than the base layer the edges of the lining may be easily grasped to open the snap fasteners and detach the lining from the base layer for cleaning.

From the above description it is thought that the construction and operation of the invention will be fully understood without further explanation.

What is claimed is:

A beach blanket comprising, a base layer of canvas, one end of the base layer being folded back upon itself longitudinally, spaced parallel lines of stitching connecting the side edges of the folded portion to the side edges of the base layer, a line of stitching parallel with and midway between the first named lines of stitching connecting the folded portion centrally to the base layer from the free edge of the folded portion to the folded end of the base layer, said lines of stitching forming two open pockets, fasteners removablysecuring the free edges of the pockets to the base layer, and a towel detachably connected to the base layer on the same face thereof as the pockets and extending from a. point adjacent the pockets to the extreme opposite end of the base layer.
