This invention relates to compacts, vanity cases, and the like, receiving fabric disks, wafers and the like which are impregnated with skin cleansing, skin treating, skin beautifylng,'medicinal, therapeutic or other materials, and for substances such as rouge, lip stick and the like.

According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the container is comprised by two hingedly or otherwise connected sections, one having a compartment or well to contain cleansingdisks, wafers or the like with a suitable humidifying arrangement and the other having a compartment, or compartments, to contain powder, rouge, lip stick or other cosmetics or the like. If desired the section containing the elements or substances to be maintained moist, and their moistening means, may be separated from the section containing the cosmetics, or the like, when the case is closed, whereby the cosmetics or the like are not affected by the means for humidifying or maintaining the disks, wafers or the like moist.

The container may be formed from any suitable material and may be of any desired size and shape, and, in accordance with the illustrated embodiment of the invention, one of the sections In thereof is divided in any suitable manner into any desired plurality of compartments I2 to contain any desired number or elements or substances such as cosmetics or the like. On the other hand, there is provided to fit within the remaining section 10 a pad l3 of any suitable absorbent and moisture retaining material having formed therein an opening i4 comprising a compartment or well to contain elements or substances such as impregnated facial cleansing disks, wafers or the like, designated as 15, which are required to be maintained moist in order to be maintained in proper condition for usen Any suitable means may be provided to retain the pad l3 in its related section III. In this connection and as illustrated in the present instance, the retaining means for the pad l3 comprises a plate iii of a size and shape to fit withinthe related section l0 and to beretained therein either frictionally or in any other desired manner. Referring to the drawings in detail, first with particular reference to the embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1 to 3 of the drawings, it will be observed that the container chosen for purposes of illustration in the present instance and designated generally as A, is in the form of a compact or vanity case composed primarily of two sections ID, ID, hinged together as indicated at H for relative opening and closing movements and either of which may be con by serves to retain the pad l3 therein.

The plate 16, except for the opening l8 therein, may be completely closed and the pad 13 may be moistened by applying water or any other desired liquid thereto at its exposed edge defining the'well It. However, to facilitate quick and easy and thorough moistening of the pad I3, said pad preferably is provided with a plurality of small openings l9 extending therethrough at suitably spaced points and'the plate I6 is provided with openings 20 alined with said openings l9. Thus, by dropping water or other liquid through the openings 20 into the openings IS the entire pad may be thoroughly moistened very easily and maintain the disks, wafers or other elements l contained in the well it moist and in a proper condition for use.

Preferably suitable means is provided toseparate the sections III, ill from each other when the case A is closed, thereby to prevent. the moisture contained in the pad l3 from affecting elements or substances such as cosmetics or the like contained in the compartments I2. A practical means for this purpose may comprise a mirror 2| of a size and shape to fit snugly within the section [0 containing the pad IS in overlying relationship to the pad retaining plate Hi. This mirror 2| may be hinged to the plate It as shown, or, alternatively, it may be hinged to the case A. In either case, it is swingable to an open position for most convenient use and to afiord access to the well ll, as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, and to a closed position in which it serves as a cover for the pad containing section III for the purpose stated.

According to the Figures 4 and 5 embodiment of the invention the construction is generally the same as illustrated in Figs. 1 to 3 except that the container, designated generally as A is of circular shape; the pad I 3 and it's retaining plate I6 according to this form of the invention being in the form of rings.

According to the Figures 6 and 7 embodiment of the invention the well M to contain the disks, waters or the like l5 is provided in one of the sections Ill of the container designated generally as A and the pad 13* for maintaining said disks, wafers or the like moist is contained in the other section 10* of the case. The well M is formed by a ring-like element 22 permanently or removably mounted in its related section l0? and the pad l3 is retained in its section'lil by a suitably perforated disk-like element 23 which may be frictionally or otherwise suitably retained in said accommodating section I0 As suggested by Fig. 6, the pad retaining plates of the Figs. 1 and 4 embodiments of the invention may be of open-work or screen-like construction to facilitate moistening of the pads.

Obviously, according to each of the forms of the invention, simple, practical means is provided for maintaining the elements or substances l5, such as cleansing disks, wafers or the like in a moist condition best suiting them for use, for in each instance the compartment or well for containing the elements to be maintained moist either is formed directly in an absorbent moisture retaining pad or is in part closed by such a pad when the case is closed. Obviously, too, said means may readily be embodied in containers such as vanity cases, compacts, or the like of known commercial types or in specially constructed containers 0! various diii'erent designs, and in any instance where the container is designed to contain cosmetics or the like in addition to impregnated disks, waters or the like, means is provided to prevent the cosmetics or the like from being affected by the moisture utilized for maintaining the impregnated disks, waters or the like in proper condition for use.

Without further description it'is thought that the features and advantages 0! the invention will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and it will of course be understood that changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit of the invention and scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. In a container, an absorbentmoisture retaining element disposed in said container and having an opening to contain elements or substances to be maintained moist, a plate overlying said moisture retaining element and engaged with the container to retain said moisture retaining element in said container, said plate having an opening alined with the opening in said moisture retaining element, and, said moisture retaining element and plate having a plurality of alined openings disposed at spaced intervals around said first mentioned openings to facilitate moistening of said moisture retaining element.

2. In a cosmetic compact container, an absorbent moisture retaining element disposed in said container and having an opening to contain elements or substances to be maintained moist, a plate overlying said moisture retaining element and engaged with the container to retain said moisture retaining element in said container, said plate having an opening aligned with the opening in said moisture retaining element.

3. In a cosmetic compact container, an absorbent moisture retaining element disposed in said container and having an opening to contain elements or substances to be maintained moist, a plate overlying said moisture retaining element and engaged with the container to retain said moisture retaining element in said container, said .plate having an opening aligned with the opening in said moisture retaining element and a closure plate fitting snugly in the top of said container in overlying relationship to said first mentioned plate.
