The present invention relates to protectors for shielding and sheltering the pedal extremities of human beings and the wearing apparel worn thereon from extreme cold, wet, rainy, snowy or inclement weather.

It is an object of the invention to provide a protector as above described that may be made of light waterproof material to prevent the apparel from becoming soiled from water dripping from the wearers garments, or due to the splashing of water against the wearers legs.

A further object of the invention is to provide a. protector that is constructed and tailored. to present a neat and attractive appearance similar to the lower leg portion of the stylish and fashionable type of riding breeches worn by women.

Another object of the invention is to provide the protector with an adjustable fastening means at its upper end, for securely holding it to the leg of a, wearer in a proper suspended position.

It is also an object of the invention to provide a protector that may also be readily adapted for use by men, for holding the lower portion of the trousers in a folded position against the leg of the wearer.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a protector for wearing apparel which may be attached and detached from the leg and manufactured and sold for a relatively low price, and which may be folded into a small package to readily fit into a users pocket or handbag.

Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the invention secured to the left leg of a wearer.

Figure 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the invention, shown partly opened for the sake of clearnes.

Figures 3 and 4 show respectively the front and back sections of the material from which the protector is formed.

Figure 5 is an enlarged perspective view of the upper rear portion of the protector, showing a means for adjustably securing it to the leg of a wearer, and

Figure 6 is an enlarged view of a portion of the inner lower end of the protector adapted for use by men.

Broadly stated, according to the principles of our invention, we provide a protector for sheltering the lower leg portions of human beings,

The sheets are connected together at one of their vertical marginal side edges, by lines of stitching and at their opposite marginal edges by strips of tape on which are mounted separable slide fasteners for opening and closing the protector around the leg of a wearer. To the upper rear edge of the protector is secured an adjustable elastic strip for gripping the leg above the calf and holding it to the leg in a loosely suspended and attractive position.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the protector I is made up from two sheets of elongated, transparent, water-proof material such as oiled silk, Cellophane or any other rn aterial suitably aspi in? puff) serum sheets are cut to adapt a form front and baolisctions 2 and 3, each having irregular curved side edges as shown, the front section 2 with the edges 4 and 5 and the back section 3 with the edges 6 and I. The sections are arranged to be permanently connected together, at one side, by sewing or otherwise, the edge 4 of the front section 2 to the edge 6 of the back section 3. The other side edges of the sheets are arranged to be detachably connected, by separable slide fasteners 8 and 9 which are mounted on strips of tape I0 and II. The fasteners are secured to the front and back sections 2 and 3 by sewing or otherwise, tape ID to edge 5 of front section 2 and tape II to edge 1 of back section 3. The slide fasteners are opened and closed by means of the usual form of hand grip I 2 as shown in Figure 2.

To the upper end of back section 3 a single strip of elastic i5 is secured, which is arranged to grip the leg above the calf and hold the protector in a loosely suspended position, as clearly shown in Figure 1. The elastic strip is shorter than the width of section 3 and is stretched and stitched at its ends to the section. While in this position the upper edge of the section is also folded over the elastic and stitched to provide a covering for the elastic and when tension is removed a shirring will be formed as shown.

The lower end of the body is provided with a reinforcing cufi portion I1 to give weight to the protector for holding it suspended on the leg without wrinkling. When held in such position the cuff engages the back of the heel and tapers upwardly with its forward end resting on the instep portion of the shoe as clearly shown in Figure 1.

which comprises two elastic strips l8 and I9, each having one of their ends stitched as at 20 and 2| adjacent the side edges of section 3. A looped covering 22 is also provided for the elastics and through an opening 23 their free ends 24 and 25 are projected and knotted for loosening and tightening the tension on the elastic to suit the wearers comfort.

When the protector is worn by men a means .is provided, as shown in Figure 6, for holding the lower leg portion of the trousers folded against the leg and away from contact with the protector when in use. The means herein shown comprises a thin strap 21' made from the same material as the protector, and has its end portion 28 detachably secured to the seam of the body by a small safety pin 29, or any other means, suitable and adapted for the purpose. The strap is formed to provide a loop 30 which may be opened and closed by means of a slip buckle 3|.

When the protector is to be used it is first opened by pulling the hand grip l2 of the slide fasteners downward. When in its open position the strap 21 is connected to the inner side wall of the body adjacent its lower end. The loop is then opened and closed around the lower portion of the trouser for securing it in a neatly folded position against the lower portion of the leg. The protectoris then closed and secured in its proper position on the leg by pulling the hand grip I2 of the slide fasteners upwardly resiliently gripping the leg above the calf.

It is understood that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention.

What is claimed is:

1. A stocking and trouser protector comprising a flexible tubular body, means for detachably securing the body suspended to the leg of a wearer and-adjustable means detachably secured to the inner lower side of the body for engaging and holding the lower portion of the trousers folded against the leg.

2. A stocking and trouser protector comprising a flexible tubular body, means for detachably securing the body suspended to the leg of a wearer and an adjustable strap detachably secured to the inner lower side of the body for engaging and holding the lower portion of the trousers folded against the leg.

3. A stocking and trouser protector comprising a flexible tubular body formed from two thin sheets of Waterproof material stitched together at one side, interlocking means secured to the opposite side edges of the sheets for opening and closing the body, means for securing the body suspended to the leg of a wearer and adjustable means detachably secured to the inner lower side of the body for engaging and holding the lower portion of the trousers folded against the leg.
