Ticket issuing devices in which a paper web is continuously moved forward and the separate tickets separated therefrom, are known in many forms.

It is also known to compose these issuing'devices of separate magazines which are similar to each other and which each contain a paper roll and also a ticket issuing device and a tearing-off device. 7

It is, furthermore,'known to mount ticket issuing devices which consist of a plurality of separate magazines, in a selling or payment table in such manner that the tickets are issued onto a payment plate located in the plane of the table, but the issuing devices of this nature have hitherto only been constructed in such complicated and costly a manner that the high cost of production has opposed their wider adoption.'

I The object of the invention is to provide a ticket issuing device which can be fitted in a table plate and which consists of a plurality of individual magazines of which each one contains a paper roll and a ticket issuing and tearing-off device and in which each individual magazine can be so independently manipulated that it can be withdrawn from the remaining ones in order, for example, to be charged with a fresh stock of paper when the previously inserted paper roll has been exhausted. It is important in designing such an arrangement to so contrive it that it responds to all the requirements placed in a reasonable manner on the practical use' thereof without. devices and means having to be employed which are too tain a convenient position, which is of considerable importance in view of the frequently extremely restricted space available, and, finally, that the charging of the individual magazines can be accomplished without disturbing the issuing operations of the other magazines and that the charging can take place at any time.

These requirements are not met by the hitherto known devices or, if so, only by the use of means which are complicated and therefore costly.

What is, however, also of the greatest importance for such devices is the point of view of security both for the proprietor of the business as also of the operator himself against unauthorised interference and aquisitionof tickets.

The invention takes into account all these points of view. It comprises the following:

A ticket issuing device which contains a number of individual magazines of which each one contains a paper roll with ticket delivery and tearing-off device, which can be drawn out individually from the others for the purpose of examination, is mounted in known manner in a table plate.

' According to the invention, the individual magazines are so arranged that they connect on to the surface of the payment table with their ticket issuing opening to the front, that is, towards the purchaser, and can be swung out at the back below the level of the table board; Furthermore, the separate magazines are so designed and arranged in a common housing the top of which forms the paying surface, that the adjacently located individual magazines themselves form the closed rear part of the housing. It is also of considerable importance that, according to the invention, the individual magazines are so arranged that when they are in the operating position their ticket issuing opening is at the highest position. Of considerable importance for the simple construction and convenient operation'of the device are the relative positions of the constructional elements determining the general design of the individual magazines, in particular the position of the pivotal bearing about which the individual magazine can be brought into and out of the working position, and furthermore the position of the ticket issuing opening of the individual magazine with respect to the central point of this pivotal bearing and the central point of the paper roll fitted in the individual magazine. According to the invention, these positions are so fixed that the ticket issuing opening of the individual magazine and the centre point of its pivotal bearing are approximately on a circle of which the centre is the centre point of the paper roll, and the narrow edges of the individual magazines forming at the back the rear closing of the general housing are curved approximately to this circle.

The ticket issuing device is mounted in a boxlike housing I the top 2 of which forms the paying surface and on which at the same time the tickets issued are delivered. This housing is mounted in a table board 3 of the sellers station or table in such manner that the top 2 of the housing, that is, the paying surface, runs substantially flush with the table top 3.

Such an arrangement is known per se. The housing is closed at the front, sides and bottom,

the rear edges 4 of the sides being curved. Towards the rear, that is, towards the seller, the box is, however, open. At the bottom there is a pivot shaft 5 about which the individual magazines are arranged to oscillate, a stop member 4t (Figure 1) being provided to limit their downward movement. In the example according to Figure 1, the issuing device contains six separate magazines, but this number may be varied as desired, according to the number of different kinds of tickets to be issued.

Each individual magazine consists of a casing of cast light metal or other suitable material, one side of which is closed and the other side of which is open, the open sides of the magazines being faced toward the right in Figure 1. The magazine casing contains a space enclosing the paper roll from which the separate tickets are to be separated and issued. The paper roll 6 is placed freely rotatable about a spindle 1 in known manner. From here the paper band 8 runs over a guiding roller 9 and a second guiding roller it into the paper band guide H passing through this to the ticket issuing opening l2 of the separate magazine. of the band or strip takes place by means of a lever l3 adapted to oscillate about a pivot I 2 and the free end l5 of Which is made as a handle which moves backward and forward over the upper part of the curved back It of the magazine. A gripping device I? is mounted on the lever and engages the paper band to be moved forward, by means of which the forward movement of the lever 53 assisted or caused by a spring l3 moves the paper band out of the issuing opening by the amount to be issued, and at the same time draws forward the part of the paper band located behind. The details of this gripper actuating device are not of importance within the scope of the present invention, and i need not be described. What is important is the general arrangement and the mutual position of the separate parts of th issuing magazine. According to the invention, the arrangement is so contrived that the separate magazines are arranged so that the issuing opening I2 is visible above the surface of the paying table, whilst on the other hand with respect to their pivotal axis 5 they are so arranged with respect to the general housing that, as shown by Figure 1, the individual magazines can be swung out at the back below the level of the table. The tickets to be issued are thus presented to the purchaser as they move directly out of the issue opening of the device, that is, the purchaser sees how the ticket sold him comes directly from the otherwise closed selling apparatus. The issuing of tickets is thus supervised by the purchaser himself and he is consequently quite sure of only obtaining actually valid tickets directly from the apparatus; On the other hand, the fact that the separate magazine can be swung out towards the back below the level of the table permits the individual magazines to be tilted out backwards during the selling period and charged with fresh paper rolls without thereby interfering with the selling operations of the other separate magazines which remain in their working position.

Owing to the adjacently located separate magazines together forming the back, the whole construction saves a considerable amount of space. The outer shape of the separate magazine itself is here of importance. Owing to the ticket issuing opening l2 of the separate magazine and the centre point of the pivotal point 5.

The forward movement r of oscillation being located on a circle which has its centre approximately at the centre point I 9 of the paper roll, the construction of the magazine is exceedingly compact and because the rear narrow wall It is curved to conform approximately to the above-mentioned circle, there is attained a general back part of the device curved towards the rear, which permits the seller to maintain a very convenient attitude during attendance on the apparatus. There are no sharp edges pressing against his body or upon which he might knock himself. The backwardly projecting curve of the rear wall adapt itself to the inclined forforwardly bodily attitude of the seller, in a favourable manner. In connection with this form of the separate magazine, is the further measure of keeping the other external dimensions of the separate magazine within a circle which can be imagined as described to the front with a radius 5I2 about the point 5. The result is thereby attained that the separate magazine can swing out freely and no part of it can come into contact with the rear edge of the paying table 2, the issuing opening l2 in the .working position of the separate magazin being at the highest point. This latter advantage is of importance, as already mentioned above, on account of the clear visibility of the issuing process, Whilst in addition it is also important for the actuation of the device moving the paper band. As shown from Figure 1, the lever handles l5 are at the highest position at the top. The lever itself oscillates about the point M which is so arranged that the handle l5 runs practically parallel to the backwardly curved paper guide II. For the purpose of actuating and issuing tickets, the handle I5 is drawn down backward by the seller until the lever abuts against the end of the slot l3 which corresponds in length to the length of the ticket, whereupon it is released and returns under the influence of the spring l8 into the upper initial position and thus forces out the ticket by means of the gripper device ll. This mechanism may advantageously be of the type described in United States Patent No. 2,155,762. The handles [5 thus run closely above the rear walls of the separate magazines and cannot therefore greatly project therefrom and be thereby exposed to damage. The actuation of the lever takes place well adapted to the natural attitude of the seller. The hand actuating the lever rests otherwise on the curved rear wall.

Owing to the fact that according to the present'invention the closely spaced rear walls [6 serve collectively as the only rear wall of the housing, the necessity arises of a safety device specially adapted to the needs of the construction in question.

The separate magazines must be so secured in their working position (Figure 1, left-hand side) that they are not only fixed during the issuing process but are also secured against unauthorized interference by the seller.

This requirement is fulfilled in the following manner:

Inside the housing and below the cover 2, Figure 4, there slides, secured by pins 20 and looking discs 2|, a locking bar 22 which contains on the lower edge as many locking teeth 23 as there are separate magazines to be secured. This rail or bar is provided with a slot 22' engaging the pin 20 and is movable transversely to the direction of oscillation of the separate magazines, by means of a lock 24 (Figure 1). This lock 24 is so arranged that when the key is withdrawn the locking teeth 23 have passed to the right. In this position they move in back of locking nose pieces 25 of which each separate magazine carries one (Figure 2). If the key is insertedand rotated, the teeth 23 move to the left and the release of the nose pieces 25 releases the separate magazines, so that each of these can now be oscillated out backwardly. If, for example, the paper in one magazine is exhausted, the lock 24 is opened, the magazine to be filled is swung out and the other separate magazines are secured, by turning back the lock 24, in their working position so that the sale from the other separate magazines can continue. The small dimensions which the separate magazines have on the whole are here taken advantage of in the whole process, since the separate magazine oscillated out to the rear interferes so little with the seller that the separate magazine swung out can be freshlycharged in front of him by another person without it being necessary for him to be' interfered with in his selling operations with respect to the magazines remaining in the operating position.

On the other hand, such a ticket issuing device necessitates a safety device preventing any outside person from interfering with the contents of the separate magazines when the seller has left the selling apparatusentrusted to him. This safety device ensures that an unauthorized person can not draw one or more tickets out of the ticket issuing opening by any manipulations whatever, nor can he in any way manipulate the actuating device for the issuing, and finally, that even the possessor of the key of the above-described locking device cannot swing out the sepsupplementary locking device is furthermore so 1.

arranged that in the locked condition it, at the same time, keeps the separate magazines locked in their working position. v

This inventive idea is attained with comparatively very simple means.

On the left-hand side, there is a lock 32, by the rotation of the key of which an angle bar 26, having a slot 26', can be moved transversely parallel to the bar 22 and, like the bar 22, is

held by the studs 20 and securing rings 2 I. This s;

bar 23 also carries teethZl which in the locked position come behind locking nose pieces 28 arranged on the separate levers l3, thus holding the latter inoperative and also locking the magazines in the working position just as inthe case of the teeth 23 co-operating with the nose pieces 25. The reciprocating movement of the bar 28 takes place by means of a forked piece 29 joined to it at the left-hand end and which has a slot 30. A locking pin 3| of the lock 32 enters this, so that on the rotation of the lock and with it of the lock pin 3| the bar 26 with the teeth' 2'! can be reciprocated and closed in the direction of the double arrow shown in Figure 3. The lock 24 serving for the reciprocating movement of the bar 22 is constructed in the same way.

The paying plate 2 is bent upward at its rear edge to form the inclined part 33 which carries holding studs 34 with locking rings 34 which hold a further locking rail 35 located at the back.

This locking rail 35 has an indentation 36 in which engages a small angle piece 31 which is fixed on the rail 26 over a tooth 21, for example by welding. The bar 35 has, furthermore, oblong slots 38 running at an angle of 45 to the direction of movement and through which the holding studs 34 pass. If the rail 26 is moved for example to the right, the angle iron nose piece 31 which enters the slot 36 of the rail 35 carries this rail 35 to the right. In so doing, however, the rail 35 in consequence of the arrangement of the oblong holes 38, is raised and by this movement covers the outlet openings I2 behind it of the separate magazines. Thus, no one can have any access any longer from the front to the outlet opening for the tickets to be issued. At

the same time, however, the teeth 21 come behind the locking noses 28 of the levers l3 and thereby lock these in inoperative position and the magazines in their working position. Since the locking devices actuated from the lock 32 cannot be influenced by the actuation of the lock 24, all necessary safeguards ar attained, that is, the proprietor or manager of the business who has the key for the lock 24 and who alone is to insert in the selling appliance the paper rolls containing the prescribed number, can only have access to the magazine when the seller is at the same time present with the above-mentioned key for the lock 32, and by suitably manipulating the lock 32 also releases on his part the separate magazines. On the other hand, however, the seller cannot in the absence of th holder of the key for the lock 24 have independent access to the contents of the separate magazines, since with the key of the lock 24 withdrawn the separate magazines are locked in their working position. Only by proper use of the handles !5 can th separate tickets be issued, the sellers work being checked by the known numbering of the separate ticket sections or by ticket counting devices contained in each separate magazine. When the seller has withdrawn the key of the lock 32 no one can obtain access to the apparatus. The safeguards necessary in th interest of a proper sale are thus fulfilled and this by means of extremely simple arrangements.

It is seen from the foregoing that the novel safeguarding device has a special cooperation with the novel magazine assembly previously described since novel protective means are necessitated by the fact that the back of the magazine assembly is not closed save by the rear'walls of the several magazines themselves, Wherefore the magazines would be subject to tampering in the absence of the ticket seller if such protective means were not provided.

We claim:

1. A ticket issuing device comprising a housing open at the rear and mounted on a table board of the sellers station, said table board having an opening into which said housing is set whereby the top of said housing forms a paying surface substantially flush with the top of said table board, a plurality of separate magazines pivoted at their lower portions to the lower rearward portion of said housing whereby said magazines are individually swingable rearwardly and downwardly, each said magazine having a ticket delivery opening normally disposed above the level of said paying surface and. each said magazine being open at one side whereby access may be had to the interior thereof when said magazine is in loweredv positiomand means operable when said magazines are in raised, operative position for closing the delivery openings of said magazines.

2. A ticket issuing device comprising a housing open at the rear and mounted on a table board of the sellers station, said table board having an opening into which said housing is set whereby the top of said housing forms a paying surface substantially flush with the top of said table board, a plurality of separate magazines pivoted at their lower portions to the lower rearward portion of said housing whereby said magazines are individually swingable rearwardly and downwardly, each said magazine having a ticket delivery opening normally disposed above the level of said paying surface and each said magazine being open at one side whereby access may be had to the interior thereof when said magazine is in lowered position, a ticket delivery lever associated with each said magazine, and means operable when said magazines are in raised, operative position for closing the delivery openings of said magazines and locking said ticket delivery levers.

3. A ticket issuing device comprising a housing open at the rear and mounted on a table board of the sellers station, said table board having an opening into which said housing is set whereby the top of said housing forms a paying surface substantially flush with the top of said table board, a plurality of separate magazines pivoted at their lower portions to the lower rearward portion of said housing whereby said magazines are individually swingable rearwardly and downwardly, each said magazine having a ticket delivery opening normally disposed above th level of said paying surface and each said magazine being open at one side whereby access may be had to the interior thereof when said magazine is in lowered position, a ticket delivery lever associated with each said magazine, and means operable when said magazines are in raised, operative position for locking said ticket delivery levers.

l. A ticket issuing device comprising a housin open at the rear and mounted on a table board of the sellers station, said table board having an opening into which said housing is set whereby the top of said housing forms a paying surface substantially fiush with the top of said table board, a plurality of separate magazines pivoted at their lower portions to the lower rearward portion of said housing whereby said magazines are individually swingable rearwardly and downwardly, each said magazine having a ticket delivery opening normally disposed above the 1 level of said paying surface, and each said magazine being open at one side whereby access may be had to the interior thereof when said magazine is in lowered position, and means for looking said magazines in raised, operativ position.

5. A ticket issuing device comprising a housing open at the rear and mounted on a table board of the sellers station, said table board having an opening into which said housing is set whereby the top of said housing forms a paying surface substantially flush with the top of said table board, a plurality of separate magazines pivoted at their lower portions to the lower rearward portion of said housing whereby said magazines are individually swingable rearwardly and downwardly, each said magazine having a ticket delivery opening normally disposed above the level of said paying surface and each said magazine being open at one side whereby access may be had to the interior thereof when said ill magazine is in lowered position, and means for locking said magazines in raised, operative position and for preventing the operation of said ticket delivery levers.

6. A ticket issuing device comprising a housing open at the rear and mounted on a table board of the sellers station, said table board having an opening into which said housing is set whereby the top of said housing form a paying surface substantially flush with th top of said table board, a plurality of separate magazines pivoted at their lower portions to the lower rearward portion of said housing whereby said magazines are individually swingable rearwardly and downwardly, each said magazine having a ticket delivery opening normally disposed above the level of said paying surface and each said magazine being open at one side whereby access may be had to the interior thereof when said magazine is in lowered position, means for locking said magazines in raised, operative position, and separate means for closing said delivery openings.

7. A ticket issuing device comprising a housing open at the rear and mounted on a table board of the sellers station, said table board having an opening into which said housing is set whereby the top of said housing forms a paying surface substantially flush with the top of said table board, a plurality of separate magazines pivoted at their lower portions to the lower rearward portion of said housing whereby said magazines are individually swingable rearwardly and downwardly, each said magazine having a ticket delivery opening normally disposed above the level of said paying surface and each said magazine being open at one side whereby access may be had to the interior thereof when said magazine is in lowered position, means for locking said magazines in raised, operative position, and separate means for closing said delivery openings and locking said ticket delivery levers.

8. A ticket issuing device comprising a housing, open at the rear, mounted on a table board at the sellers station with the top of said housing substantially flush with the top of said table board, and a plurality of separate magazines supported in said housing, each said magazine containing a ticket roll and ticket delivery means, said magazines being open on the side and individually movable relative to said housing to permit charging, each said magazine having a parti-cylindrical rear wall curved about an axis passing substantially through the center of the ticket roll contained therein, said rear Wall extending slightly above the top of said housing and forming the upper boundary of a ticket delivery opening, the combined rear walls of said magazines when closed forming the rear wall of said housing.

9. In a device according to claim 8, means operable when said magazines are in operative position for closing the delivery openings of said magazines.

10. In a device according to claim 8, said delivery means including a manually actuated ticket delivery lever, means operable when said magazines are in operative position for closing the delivery openings of said magazines and looking said ticket delivery levers.

11. In a device according to claim 8, means for locking said magazines in operative position.
