The present invention relates to a therapeutic device for the treatment of hemorrhoids.

The various objects and features of the invention will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art upon a consideration of the annexed drawing and the following description wherein an exemplary embodiment of the invention is disclosed.

Fig. 3 is a similar sectional view showing the bulb-like projection removed from the base of the device.

Referring to the drawing there is shown at a a base member formed of elastic material so as to form a seat. The walls of the base member are formed of rubber having suicient rigidity to support a patient thereon particularly when fluid fills the chamber B.

The lower surface of the base member is flat and adapted to rest on any convenient support and the upper surface thereof rises from the base and is provided with depressed portions 2 adapted to receive the gluteus muscles of the patient.

The depressed portions are separated by a ridge 3 as shown in Fig. l. The top of the base member a, between the depressed portions 2 and in alignment with the ridge 3, is provided with a recess I2 having a bushing Il) secured therein to the wall of the base member a. The bushing I is internally threaded as indicated at Il for receiving a threaded nipple 9 carried by a bulblike member b. When the bulb-like member is connected to the base member as shown in Figs. l and 2 the chambers 6 and B are in communication with each other through the nipple 9.

The chamber 6 is adapted to receive a supply of hot or cold water and even ice for treatment of hemorrhoids and the uid within the chamber 6 also provides additional means for supporting the weight of the patient. The chamber 8 of the bulb member b however may be isolated from the chamber 6 by means of a threaded plug I3 which is adapted to engage the internal threads of the nipple 9.

Fluid `pressure may also be supplied to the chamber 6 by means of the air pump 5 which is connected to the base member by means of a hose or tube 4 and the hose is connected to the base member as indicated at i.

In use of the apparatus the patient is seated upon the base member with the gluteus muscles resting thereon within the depressions 2. The

bulb-like member b is also formed of rubber and adapted to extend within the cavity between the gluteus muscles and engage the patients body adjacent the anus. The chamber 6 having been filled with hot or cold water in accordance with a physicians instructions will thus communicate this temperature to the body of the patient adjacent the anus. Varying degrees of pressure may be applied to the body within the cavity adjacent the anus by forcing air into the chamber 6 which of course will increase thel pressure therein and the pressure within the bulb member 8. A therapeutic mass-aging effect is thusr produced by the bulb member b and by slight movements of the patient resting on the base member. Such massaging and therapeutic treatment has been found beneficial in cases of uneven or tortuous dilation of the veins adjacent the anus due to local retardation of the venous circulation or relaxation of the walls of the anus. In other words the circulation of the blood in thispart of the body isI considerably improved by use of the apparatus herein described.

While the invention has been shown and described with reference to specific structural details it is apparent that changes may be made therein. Such modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.

I claim:

1. Apparatus for treating hemorrhoids comprising, a hollow base member having depressions in the upper surface thereof for receiving the gluteus muscles of a patient, a ridge 4carried by the upper surface of the base member between said depressions, said base member having an opening therein adjacent said ridge, a hollow closed elastic bulb member connected to said base member within said opening, said bulb member having a substantially spherical top surface for engaging the patient adjacent the anus, and means for supplying fluid pressure to the interior of said base member.

2. Apparatus for treating hemorrhoids comprising, a hollow base member formed of rubber, said base member having depressions in the upper surface thereof for receiving the gluteus muscles of a patient, a hollow closed rubber bulb memberconnected to the base member between said depressions and communicating with the hollow base member, said bulb member having an arcuate top portion for engaging the patient adjacent the anus, and an air pump adapted to force air into the interior of said base member.
