Description

Oct. 22, 940- D. w. VREDENBURGH LIP ROUGE APPLICATOR Filed April 4, 1939 fl INVENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented Oct. 22, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE .LIP ROUGE APPLICATOR Dora W. Vredenburgh, Beechwood, N. J.
Application April 4, 1939, Serial N: 265,995 2 Claims. (Cl. 132-1) This invention relates to rouge applicators, and
its general object is to provide an applicator which makes it possible to apply rouge to the lips in an easy and expeditious manner with perfect results in that the rouge can be evenly and smoothly spread to make a clear and well defined marginal outline, as well-as a natural appearing surface on both the upper and lower lips with minimum effort on the part of the user, and all of which is practically impossible by the methods now employed, namely, by the use of a finger tip, direct application of a lip stick and by the use of a brush, as such methods not only result in staining the fingers, handkerchiefs, towels and the like,
15 but also in an uneven, blurred outline and a caked,
cracked and unnatural surface.
A further object is to provide a lip rouge applicator that is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and extremely efi'icient in use 30 and service.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accom- 25 panying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts 30 throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a view illustrating my applicator in use.
Figure 2 is a side view thereof.
Figure 3 is a rear view.
Figure 4 is an end view, looking toward the head of my applicator.
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be noted that the applicator in the form as shown includes a sectional handle made up of a body 0 member I that is preferably provided with a threaded socket for receiving a threaded stud mounted on one end of the handle member 2 which is tapered inwardly toward its outer end and terminates in a knob 3.
The body member terminates at its inner end in a serrated flange 4 tofacilitate removing and applying the handle member thereto and formed on and extending centrally from the flanged end is a shank 5 which is disposed in alignment with 50 the longitudinal axis of the body member I for the major portion of its length but terminates in a curved outer end 6.
Secured to the curved outer-end of the shank.
5 is the head of my applicator which is substan- 55 tially heart shape and is arranged with respect to clear and Well defined marginal line.
the shank so that the pointed portion 1 extends from the shank at an outward inclination for the disposal of the point 8 at an acute angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the shank, the point being shown as disposed at an angle of ap- 5 proximately fifteen degrees with respect to said axis. The head is fiat as shown and includes a body plate 9, having a piece of absorbent material It such as chamois adhesively secured to the outer face thereof, the piece of material being shaped to 10 follow the heart shaped configuration of the plate,- and due to its absorbent qualities, the rouge will adhere thereto, as will be apparent.
While I have illustrated a preferred and detachable type of handle, that particular type and shape is of no great importance and such together with the shankand head may be made of any suitable material, but the shape of the shank and head is of extreme importance, together with the arrangement of the head with respect to the g0 shank, in that the outer end of the shank should be curved and the head must necessarily be of the shape and arranged with respect to the shank, as shown, in order to bring about the desired results, with minimum effort on the part of the user.
In the use of my applicator, the pointed portion 1 of the substantially heart shaped head is daubed on the rouge and thence applied to the lips in a manner whereby the point 8 is moved along the outer marginal edges of the lips to bring about a When the marginal line has been completed, the lower or broader surface of the head is used for spreading, smoothing and wiping away excess rouge. I prefer to use both sides of the pointed end of the head in making the outline on the upper lip, one side for one-half of the upper lip, and the other side for the other half, then I turn the device over for disposing the pointed end lowermost and move the head along the length of the lower lip.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A lip rouge applicator comprising a handle, a shank secured to said handle and terminating in a curved outer end, a flat substantially heart shaped head including a body plate having the shank secured to one face thereof, said head being disposed at an inclined angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the shank and having a pointed end portion directed at an outward angle with respect to said axis, and a piece of absorbent material covering the outer face of said plate.
2. A lip rouge applicator comprising a sectional handle tapered inwardly toward one end, a shank secured to and extending in alignment with the longitudinal axis of the handle from the opposite 10 end thereof and terminating in a curved outer end, a flat substantially heart shaped head including a body plate having the shank connected to one face thereof for the disposal of the head at an inclined angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the shank and with the pointed end portion of the head directed at an outward angle with respect to said axis, and a piece of chamois adhesively secured to the outer face of
