Description

Feb. 27, @1940. M. R. MILARCH FINGERNAIL BRUSH Filed 001:. 4, 1938 I z/vrm? M.R.Mll -ARCH TTUF /VEV l in actual use.
Patented Feb. 27, 1940 UNITED STATE-S PATENT OFFICE This invention relates generally to brushes, and particularly to a fingernail brush.
7 The main object of this invention is to con-- struct a brush by means of which the finger-' nails may be quickly and easily cleaned without discomfort or injury-to the fingers.
The second object. is to construct a brush of the class described which will be easy to manufacture and which will be adaptable to. large or small fingernails.
These and other objects are accomplished in the manner set forth in the following specifica 1 the tip of the finger 23 whose nail 24 is to be cleaned is placed against the hollow brush and tion as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. l. is a perspective view of oneform of the device.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section taken along the line 2-2 inFig.v 1.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of amodified form. I of thedevice, a portion of which is broken away in section. a 7
Fig. 4 is a section taken along the line 4-4 in Figs. 2 and 3.
. Fig. 5 is a side elevation showing the device Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views. I v
Referring in detail to the drawing, there is shown an. inner tube I0 which is surrounded by a plurality of bristles ll outside ofwhich is placedan outer tube l2 The tubes are made of metal or other suitable material. The tube ends 13 and I4 are flared outwardly for the purpose of causing the bristle ends l5 to flare 35 away from the longitudinal axis of the brush.
one direction until the fingernail is thoroughly It is desirable to provide a knurled surface 16 around the outside of the tube I2. I
In the form of the device shown in Figs. 3 to 5 the inner tube I1 is surrounded by, the
bristles l8 which in turn are enclosed within 5 "the thimble shaped shell I9 whose end 20 is closed and whose intermediate portion 2| is knurled. In this form of the device the bristles l8. also flare outwardly. The tube l! is held within the shell- I9 by forming a bead 22 within 10 same.
In the operation of either form of this device,
as shown in Fig. 5 the brush is then rotated by 15 means of the other hand causing the bristles ll, IE or I8 to clean the outermost edge of the nail 24 which is nearest the finger 23. The brush can be rotated in either direction or in.
The advantage of making the device double ended in which the bristles l4' and I5 are of different diameters is to better adapt the device to various sizes of fingers and fingernails. 25
I claim: I I A fingernail brush consisting of a pair of telesaid shells being flared outwardly in a manner to cause said bristles to flare outwardly.
