UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.

The invention relates to -the construction of a coverlet which is convertible into a pillow, and the invention consists in the peculiar construction as hereinafter set forth;

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device as extended for a coverlet;

Figure 2 is a similar view, showing the device y converted into a. pillow;

convert the same into a pillow;

Figure 10 is an elevation showing the folded sections as tucked into the pocket;

Figure 11 illustrates the pocketed sections folded and the zipper for securing the folded portions together.

'I'he coverlet may be formed in any suitable manner having an outer covering A and a suitable filling B secured in place by quilting, as indicated at C. Extending completely across and over one end portion of this quilted coverlet is an unquilted portion D forming a pocket.I This pocket is of suitable dimensions to receive all oi the coverlet when folded a predetermined number of times. It is also provided with a zipper E which extends from the center point F at the open edge of the pocket across the same and around the sides G and end H. The operator I is normally at the centervF so that when the folded sections aretucked into the pocket and the latter is folded upon itsself from the center point F the adjacent portions of the zipper E will be in operative relation to each other. Thus, .by a movement of the operator I these sections will be locked to each `otheraround three sides. thereby converting the coverlet into a pillow.

'I'he coverlet may be folded in various ways, but as indicated in Figure 3 and also in the diagrams,Figur es 5 to 9 inclusive, the coverlet may be first folded along the line J, as indicated in Figure 6, and the folded portion is refolded along the line J', as shown in Figure '7. The

' folded portions are then tucked into the pocket as indicated in Figure 8, after which the pocketed sections are folded along the line J2 from the center point F, which brings the zipper sections in operative relation to each other. Figure 10 shows the sections as rst tucked into the pocket, and Figure 11 where the pocketed sections are folded and the zipper operator I is manipulated to secure the sections together.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. The combination with a coverlet, of a pocket extending across an end portion thereof and adapted to receive and retain the remainder of said coverlet when folded and tucked therein and zipper elements extending completely around the margin of said pocket whereby the portions of the filled pocket on opposite sides of the center thereofv may be folded together and secured by said zipper elements with the tucked portions completely enclosed.

2. l The combination with a coverlet, of a pocket extending across an end portion thereof and adapted to receive and retain the remainder of said coverlet when folded and tucked therein, cooperating zipper elements extending from the center of the open side of said pocket completely around the margin thereof, and an operator ele' ment initially at said center for progressively4 locking to eachother the zipper elements on opposite sides thereof thereby completely enclosing said folded and tucked portions.

3. The combination with a quilted coverlet, of an unquilted strip extending over an end portion of said coverlet to form a pocket, said pocket being of dimensions to receive and retain the remainder of I said coverlet when folded and tucked therein. cooperating zipper elements extending from the center of the open side of said pocket completely around the margin of` said strip. andan operator initially at said center for progressively locking to each other the zipper elements on opposite-sides thereof, thereby completely enclosing the folded and tucked portions of said quilted coverlet and converting into a pillow'.
