The garment herein illustrated because of its particular shape, configuration and design is adapted to closely t and conform to the shape and contour of a human body in the vicinity of the crotch and gluteo-inguinal areas, and thus provides a comfortable personal wear garment. The desirability of having such garments remain in shape in such types of garments as bathing suits, panties, girdles, corsets and. the like in spite of strenuous physical body and limb movements, is obvious. I have discovered that by reinforcing such garment by a series of stitches at the proper place, creeping, crawling or wrinkling of the edge portions of such garment in the regions below the buttocks are prevented.

Accordingly, as shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 5, at 38 and 39 two series of U-shaped rows of stitches of thread of any desired type, are disposed in such a manner that they extend rearwardly and upwardly from the central lower rear margin of the garment and cover and reinforce the areas of the garment covering the cheek or high point of the buttocks or the areas immediately therebelow. When certain heavy weight materials are used such stitching may cover two separate areas in groups with an unstitched area portion positioned in the crotch portion of the garment as illustrated, whereas, in some instances wherein lighter materials are used the stitched area may extend continuously from one buttock area to the other through the crotch portion. If desired, the stitching may also extend along the front portion of the garment for certain uses, as shown at lli?. The completed garment is indicated by the numeral 43.

The stitching thus disposed has been found to retain the garment in a comfortable unwrinkled position by seating or retaining the rear lower portion of the garment on the buttocks or gluteoinguinal areas. This construction presents an additional advantage of preventing the garment from pulling away from or creeping in the crotch area due to stress and pulling strains in a direction from the crotch towards the buttocks; this feature being important when it is used in exposed garments, such as bathing trunks, dancing trunks and the like. The stitching herein disclosed adds very little cost to the manufacturing of the garment and provides the advantages above enumerated in a comfortable, attractive form fitting garment.

The invention, herein disclosed, may be used in mens garments, by altering the front of the garment in an obvious manner or in the manner illustrated in my co-pending application Serial No. 374,538, and such modifications are within the contemplated scope of my invention.

t will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the garment herein disclosed may be variously changed, used or modified, without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing the advantages thereof, and that the embodiment of my invention herein shown is illustrative only, and that my invention is not limited thereto.

I claim:

l. A form fitting bifurcated garment, comprising central front and rear panels connected by a narrow crotch portion, the longitudinal margins of the front panel being concave in configuration, the longitudinal margins of the rear panel being convex in configuration, front gores having cooperating margins concave in configuration and secured to said front panel margins, rear gores having cooperating margins convex in conguration and secured to said rear panel inargins, the lower marginal portions of the gores cooperating with the narrow crotch portion of the panel forming leg encircling portions, the position and arrangement of the cooperating front panel and front gores providing for freedom of leg movement of the wearer by providing excess material above the crotch and on each side thereof, the position and arrangement of the cooperating rear panel and rear gores providing a supporting pocket for the buttocks of the wearer and preventing creeping and crawling of the garment in the crotch portion in response to body movements.

2. A form fitting bifurcated garment, comprising central front and rear'panels connected by a narrow crotch portion, the longitudinal margins of the front panel being concave in configuration, the longitudinal margins of the rear panel being convex in conguration, front gores having cooperating margins concave in configuration and secured to said front panel margins, rear gores having cooperating margins convex in configuration and secured to said rear panel margins, the lower marginal portions of the gores cooperating with the narrow crotch portion of the panel forming leg encircling portions, the position and arrangement of the cooperating front panel and front gores providing for freedom of leg movement of the wearer by providing excess material above the crotch and on each side thereof, and two series of U-shaped rows of reinforcing stitches positioned and arranged in such manner as to reinforce the rear panel and gores of the garment in the buttock regions adjacent the crotch portions, the position and arrangement of the cooperating rear panel, rear gores and said reinforcing stitches providing a supporting pocket for the buttocks of the wearer and preventing creeping and crawling of the garment in the crotch portion in response to body movements.

3. A form fitting bifurcated garment, comprising central front and rear panels connected by a narrow crotch portion, the longitudinal margins of the front panel being concave in configuration, the longitudinal margins of the rear panel being convex in conguration, front gores having cooperating margins concave in configuration and secured to said front panel margins, rear gores having cooperating margins convex in conguration and secured to said rear panel margins, the lower marginal portions of the gores cooperating with the narrow crotch portion of the panel forming leg encircling portions, the position and arrangement of the cooperating front panel and front gores providing for freedom of leg movement of the wearer by providing excess material above the crotch and on each side thereof, the position and arrangement of the cooperating rear panel and rear gores providing a supportingpocket for the buttocks of the wearer and preventing creeping and crawling of the garment in the crotch portion in response to body movements, a suitably secured reinforcing member coextensive with the entire crotch and the lowermost portions of the front and rear panels and gores, two groups of reinforcing stitches passing through the reinforcing member, the rear panel, and the rear gores in the buttocks regions thereof, and cooperating straps disposed transversely of the crotch portion of the garment on the front and rear panels respectively in such' securely retain said sanitary appliance in position along the crotch portion of the body when said garment is being Worn and to prevent displacement and lateral movement of the sanitary appliance n response to active body and limb 5 movements.
