Description

Nov. 22, 1938. M. J. M cLEOD FLOOR WAXING IMPLEMENT Filed April 1, 1937 g w mkm 'MJMacLead Patented Nov. ,22, 1938 2,137,944 spoon WAXiNG llMPLEll IENT Malcolm r. Maclmfltl, Broolrline, Mass. Application April 1, 1937, Serial No. 134,499
2 Claims.
This invention relates to a floor waxing implement and it aims to provide novel means whereby liquid wax under valve control may be applied to the floor and whereby through operation of 5 the same implement it will be efficiently spread over the floor.
It is further aimed to provide a novel, efiicient and durable construction, particularly one wherein the wax may be dispensed from its original container and a construction which will avoid leakage.
The more specific objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of. the description following taken in connection with the accompanying drawing illustrating an operative embodiment.
In said drawingr Figure l is a view in side elevation, partly in section, illustrating my improvement;
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the implement, with the upper portion of the handle removed, and
Figure 3 is a plan .view showing the applicator portion of the invention.
2 Referring specifically to the ,drawing wherein like reference characters designate like or simi 'lar parts, the invention includes an inclined holder frame at Ill adapted to removably receive a can or container l i, filled with floor wax. Such holder frame it at one end has a collar it in which a nipple lllis detachably screw threaded at i i and which nipple contains a rubber or equivalent washer iii. The can it has a discharge nozzle it which extends into the nipple 35 i3 and bears against the washer iii, under the pressure of a set'screw ll, screw threaded in the frame ill andpperable against the container H to clamp it in the holder, with a sealed joint between the nozzle iii and the nipple. 40 An elbow conduit it is screw into the ring 112 and at its other end at it], is screw threaded into the globe or valve body 2 l An outlet pipe 22 is screw threaded at 23 into the body ii and at it it is pivoted to a'bracket 25, fastened to the head it of an applicator body ii in direct contact with the floor. Such body ill may be of any desired material, for instance, lambs wool, textile fabric or the like, and in fact it may even be a brush. It will be noted that the applicator 271 is provided with a central opening it and the head it also has a central opening iii! therein. Through these openings, the wax is eiiectively discharged and controlled. l r The discharge of the wax is'under control of a piston valve 39 which is slidable in the globe or casing 2!, having a stem ill extending to the exterior thereof and slidably mounted through a packed bonnet structure 32 detachably screw threaded at 33 to the globe ii.
threaded at l9 (ill. 9l-39) A suitable handle is provided at 3 1, pinned at 35' in a socket 36 formed integral with the frame H). An actuating rod N is hooked into an eye of the stem 3|, is guided through staples 39 on the handle 34 and is pivotally connected at 40 to an operating lever M pivoted at 4'2 to the said handle 34.
As a result of the construction described, the implement by means of the handle is pushed over the floor with the applicator body 2i in direct contact therewith. The wax will only flow through the discharge tube 22 when the piston valve Bil is raised through the raising of the lever M, such wax flowing from the container through the nozzle Iii, the nipple'l 3, the elbow i8, casing iii, the discharge pipe 22 onto the floor, where it is confined within the opening 28 and applied to the floor as the applicator ii is moved thereover. Normally the valve 30 is in closed position as shown in Figure 1 and it is urged to that position through the expansive action of a coil spring i3 surrounding the stem and abutting the valve 3i) and the bonnet structure 32.
Various changes may be resorted to provided theyfall within the spirit and scope of the inven-- tion.
I claim as my invention:--
. 1. An implement of the class described having an applicator body, a discharge pipe connected thereto, an elbow supply pipe leading to the discharge pipe, a holder from which the supply pipe leads, said discharge pipe and supply pipe being in rigid relation with each other and constituting the sole connection between the holder and applicator body, means to secure a container in the holder with its outlet in communication with said supply pipe, and valve means to control the flow of material through the supply pipe, said valve means including a casing connecting the elbow supply pipe and the discharge pipe, a handie extending from the holder, and operating means for the valve means extending along the holder and the handle.
2. An implement of the class described having a frame constituting a holder, said frame having a collar, a nipple connected to the collar, means to secure a container in the frame with an outlet in communication with said nipple, an applicator, and rigid conduit means extending from said nipple to said applicator including an elbow pipe, a valve casing connected to the elbow pipe, a globe connected to the elbow pipe, a discharge pipe connected to the globe, a bonnet on the globe, a control valve slidable in the globe and having a stem extending through the bonnet, a
handle extending from the frame, and actuating means connected to the stem and extending along the handle.
