Description
R. P. REINEMER MUFF STRUCTURE Julie 7, 1938.
Filed June 30, 1937 NVENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented June 7, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
My invention relates to muff structures and more particularly to that class affording protection to the brow of the head.
One of the principal objects of my invention is to provide means for protecting the brow of the head during inclement weather conditions.
Another object of my invention is to provide means whereby the ears as well as the brow are protected during inclement weather conditions.
A further object of my invention is to provide means embracing brow and ear muffs which are readily adjustable on the head and serve to protect the wearer from wind, drafts, and the like.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claims and annexed drawing.
Referring to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of my invention applied to a wearers head.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view thereof showing the device in extended position.
Fig. 3 is a detail elevation of one of the connections.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on a line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the device in folded position.
A preferred embodiment of my invention, as illustrated in the drawing, comprises an extensible spring head piece l0 having a tierce of arms, one of said arms forming a support for a brow-muff and the other arms forming supports for earmuffs.
Each arm consists of inner and outer sections H and I2 respectively, preferably constructed of thin sheet steel and adjustable longitudinally relative to each other by means of coacting folds formed thereon.
The inner sections 1 l are pivoted together as at Ha and adjustable relative to each other. The outer sections l2 have pivotally secured thereto, at the outer depending ends thereof, frames I3 45 comprising wire loops I4 secured to the respective .sections by means of connecting members 15 pivoted thereon as at l6. Said members are formed with detents l1 and engage recesses I8 formed in the sections l l for the purpose of locking the frames in an adjusted position relative to said sections. Each of said members are provided with outwardly extending folds IQ for receiving therethrough ofiset portions 20 fashioned on the wire loops [4.
The frames connected to the arms for supporting the ear-muffs are provided with a suitable material 2| adapted to cover and protect the ears of a wearer. The frame of the brow-muff supporting arm is likewise provided with a suitable material adapted to engage and protect the brow of the wearer. The frame, in the instance of the brow-muff, is considerably larger than the ones for engaging the ears and of a configuration to effectively cover the brow.
From the foregoing, it will be comprehended, that by adjusting the arms for supporting the ear-mufis laterally in relation to the head of a wearer and positioning the arm for supporting the brow-muff forwardly over the head, the brow of the wearer will be covered and protected by the muff from inclement weather and the like.
The prevailing mode of going with the head uncovered at all times, often develops head colds and/or a sinus condition due to the brow being subjected to varying and. inclement weather conditions. The construction of my device is such that it can be readily folded and carried in the users pocket for use in inclement weather, thereby, assisting to prevent the development of head colds and/or a sinus condition in the user.
It is to be distinctly understood that many changes and modifications in construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
A device of the character described, comprising, an extensible head piece consisting of a plurality of adjustable arms, frames equipped with protective material adjustably connected to the outer ends of said arms and means for adjusting the arms relative to, each other whereby a pair of said arms willsecure respective frames over the ears of a wearer and another of said arms will position the frame connected thereto over the brow of said wearer.
RNO P. REINEMER.
