A ttorneys Patented Nov. 9, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in cigarettes and cigars and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a cigarette or cigar 5 having a safety wrapper of suitable fireproof heat insulating material through the medium 01' which the danger of starting fires or damaging the clothing, furniture or anything with which the cigarette or cigar may come in contact will be materially reduced or substantially eliminated.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a cigarette or cigar wrapper of the aforementioned character which will be simple in construction, durable, highly efllcient and reliable in use, compact, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of an embodiment of the invention.
Figure 2 is a view in vertical longitudinal section through the invention.
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that-the reference numeral l designates the usual tubular wrapper of a cigarette which encloses the tobacco 2, said wrapper I, of course, being of inflammable paper. The wrapper I and the tobacco 2 constitute a conventional cigarette.
Enclosing the wrapper I is a safety outer wrapper 3 of suitable fireproof, heat insulating material, such as asbestos. The outer wrapper 3 is corrugated from one end to a point adjacent its other end where it is reduced, as at 4. Mounted 40 on the reduced, smooth end portion 4 of the outer wrapper 3 is a top 5 of cork or other suitable material.
The corrugations of the outer wrapper 3 run longitudinally and in the bottoms of said corrugations are perforations 6 which aid combustion. It will thus be seen that a, cigarette has been provided which will retain the ashes as said cigarette burns, thu's materially reducing the hazard of fire. Further, the safety sleeve provided by the outer corrugated wrapper 3 will prevent contactof the light on the end of the cigarette with the clothing, furniture and other objects. Still further, a fireproof safety wrapper in accordance with the present invention permits substantially the entire cigarette to be consumed or used.
It is believed that the many advantages of a cigarette or cigar wrapper constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although a preferred embodiment is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:-
1. A cigarette comprising an inner wrapper of inflammable material, and a longitudinally corrugated outer wrapper enclosing said inner wrapper, said outer wrapper including a reduced, uncorrugated end portion, and a tip encircling said end portion and forming a mouthpiece for the cigarette.
2. A cigarette comprising an inner wrapper of inflammable material, and an outer wrapper having portions spaced from and enclosing said inner wrapper, said outer wrapper including a reduced end portion, and a tip encircling said end portion and forming a mouthpiece for the cigarette.
